It looks like it is that time. Time for me to pull out my nerdy geek girl glasses, crack my knuckles, stretch out my typing fingers, put on my “thinking cap” (though I swear Alissa calls it my “dunce cap”)…it is time to get technical.
So pull up a comfy chair, grab some snacks, and your favorite beverage. You are about to go into the mind of Bunny as I show you some tips and tricks of the technical nature.
In this post, we are going to touch on things you can look at or try when your game just does not seem to be working as smoothly. Kicked out too many times.
GIVE APP ENOUGH SPACE
Each device has its own temperaments and will function with apps in different ways. One of those ways is with memory. This app takes up a LOT of memory. For one of my devices, GS4, the Family Guy TQFS app takes up to 2GB of space alone. So make sure you allow for a LOT of space for it to run.
Store it on an external mini SD card if you have the option.
USE A WiFi SIGNAL
The game runs BEST on WiFi. A good strong stable WiFi (not a weak shared by everyone WiFi). Data can be unpredictable and allow for more crashes. Not to mention if you don’t have unlimited Data, it can be costly as the game runs a LOT on it.
PUT SOME THINGS IN STORAGE
If you are seeing a lot more game crashes in your device, take a look at your town itself. There are a LOT of items and “stuff” to put into your town. This however does NOT mean to put it all out. TOO much going on in your town can be a bad thing. Especially if it is animated. All will cause memory drain issues on the game. Try storing items in your inventory not in use or from past events. Limit amounts of decorations and buildings. These could be things like the Spotlights, Animals, Party Pyramid, and Fireworks from previous events.
Also, if possible, keep characters on tasks INSIDE of locations. Those outside animations can also cause a drain on memory. Especially if all characters are on outside tasks.
TRY THE BASICS
Sometimes a simple fix for any electronic is just to reset it. In this case, Force Close the app and Restart your device to see if that helps. If you want to try further…here are the complete steps to the Basics of Troubleshooting.
In the end, if you have tried all you can and STILL having an issue…contact TinyCo for further support. Make sure you include key words to your issue and as much detail as you can. Also allow them enough time to respond. Technical problems are not a quick fix. They require time to resolve. You are also standing in line with thousands upon thousands of other players writing in. So give them time to first get to your message, then respond. At LEAST 3 days just to see it.
Issues that impact a great amount of players and are currently trending will most likely be reported here under one of our Glitch Reports. So search for those too for information and help.

Not sure if this is the right area to ask and I’m sorry if its been answered somewhere that I overlooked or just didn’t read enough into but I’m having problems with my game canceling the tasks of some of my characters. I’ve sent some on different tasks and then logged back in to find that they hadn’t been doing that. I’ve tried the basic troubleshooting options and I don’t have any items items (buildings/decorations/characters) in game play unless they are being used specifically for the current event. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Sounds like you definitely are running into a Memory issue. The game is not syncing your progress. This can happen if you leave your game TOO fast and don’t allow it enough time to sync your progress. Also, if you have low memory available (from some of the issues listed above) it can cause your game to lag and not save as quickly as you would like.
My suggestions:
~Try some of the tips above to make some space in the game and/or your device.
~Make sure you are playing on a good solid connection like WiFi.
~Try visiting Ollie’s BEFORE leaving the game and after you send Characters on final tasks. Visiting Ollie’s will help force the game to sync as it takes you to a separate play space and help to ensure your progress is being updated and saved to your files.
See if those help out. 🙂

Yeah I kinda was figuring it was a memory issue, hoping it wasn’t considering I have deleted every game and app off my iPad except this game, The Simpsons Tapped Out and Netflix. Ya know…the main things one can’t live without during work. lol Thank you very much for your help.

I’m not sure if this is the right past to ask this on….but I’m wondering if anyone can recommend an android phone for playing where the game doesn’t lag/stutter. I recently upgraded from a nexus 4 to the LG G4 and expected to see an improvement in the lagging issue but it is exactly the same. I keep hoping Family Guy will run as smoothly as the Simpson’s game but no such luck 😥

Quite honestly I think the items IN your game contribute a lot to it. I nuke and store most of what I have. Limit design and what I leave out. Game runs quite smoothly. And I’m on a GS4

I think it’s due to the resolution. On my xperia z3 compact only uses 300mb space but on my tablet takes 1.1gb. If I could run the 720p version instead of full HD I reckon it wouldn’t crash which it does when loading other people’s towns.

It does vary by device. There are many variables on how a device can handle different games. It is why we offer basic tips… so you can try and see what helps YOUR device with the issue. Outside that, all you can do is report it to TinyCo. 😉

Zoom in a bit and the rendering won’t need so much memory. Being zoomed in makes it more difficult to track down completed tasks, but it’s worth the couple extra moments, or your sanity. Pick one. PowerClean app helps a bit, too.

I had a crash issue at the second forklift, first Safehouse raid, and lost my goons. I messaged TinyCo to see if this was going to happen on raid #2, but heard nothing back. Is this a known glitch? They haven’t responded to any of my previous messages either.

I have to echo what others have said on here. My game crashes every single time I play it now. And it lags so badly, it’s virtually unplayable. Definitely not fun any more. They just keep adding more and more buildings and stuff but NO SPACE! What sense does that even make! I don’t want to have to put my stuff in inventory. I already have maxed out my town and half my stuff is in storage. That’s ridiculous. It honestly feels like they have the most junior team ever over there at TinyCo. Beyond all these issues, there’s also the fact that many items don’t have real descriptions on them, timing of jobs/events/etc is often planned very badly (if at all), many of the buildings and items don’t match scale-wise or line up with the road grid, coins are constantly being earned but there’s nothing to spend them on, they CONSTANTLY milk us for money/clams (Star Trek was the absolute worst), they’ve had characters “coming soon” for over a year now, the screen still does that jumpy thing when you are collecting items, lots of stuff just feels rushed and crapped out overnight without any planning or strategy, and the list goes on and on. I’ve spent lots of money in this game because I think the content is funny and I love the show. Plus the other entertainment brands they are able to integrate – that’s awesome. But as far as the actual design and maintenance and strategy of the game itself goes – they are clearly a very junior team with terrible leadership. And I know because I have been in game design and marketing for 12 years now, having worked on several AAA titles and mobile games. I’m only complaining this much because I WANT to love this game and keep playing it. But I just can’t do that if they don’t start solving these issues ASAP.

The game is crashing for me almost every time I play in the main screen. When the game crashes it also crashes my wallpaper. I am playing on an S5 with v5.0 lollipop. Had anyone had the same issue since the upgrade to 5.0. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem.

Any one have tiny co’s email?
I’ve been trying to play but haven’t been able to for 3 days now. Constantly crashing when I try to visit the Enterprise.
Uninstalling didn’t work, I have enough space and ram. Not sure what else i can do.
I tried to send them a note through their website but it didn’t work, just kept ‘thinking.’

So your suggestion is to not enjoy some of the things we’ve earned by putting them away and spending our own time contacting tiny Co, or as I like to call it doing their job for them (for free). How about tiny Co actual making their product perform like advertised. I’ve got a suggestion of my own. There is a lil saying that goes “don’t throw good money at bad money.” in other words don’t give these people your hard earned money. And if this websites correct, buying more stuff will just make it crash more. Now the name of the game just got ironic, don’t cha think. Lol (I’m loling my own joke, not the sad state of this game)

My game keeps on crashing no matter what. I can’t spend more than ten minutes playing with that annoying “connection lost” message. My wifi connection is fine and this still happens. What should I do? This has been happening for a couple of days now. Another problem when I send characters to a quest and they complete that task, once I send them to a new one and exit from my game, they are still doing their old task. HELP! I hope this goes away after the event ends.

I haven’t been able to play for the last 4 days this sucks so bad, it just crahes and goes out. I already contacted tinycompany and they didn’t get back to me. I really wanted the white s’mores man but by the looks of it I won’t have him since i can’t even get into the game.

I am on iPhone 4S, and right now the game crashes every 2-3 minutes, very annoying. I have put a lot of characters and all animated items in storage – but no change. And I have over 3.5GB available in memory on the phone. Right now I can’t even go into the help section to send a message without the game crashing 😦

My rockets that im collecting arent clocking up the amount of rockets i have to defeat the marsh mallow the blue rockets have been stuck on 26/30 no matter how many blue i collect. ~i sent in a ticket the other night when they fixed the zoom that day. i’m on Android and just wanted to let them know that my game is lagging ALOT more now seems like since now i can zoom in&out better and basically just asked them if there’s anything I could do to make it run better…haven’t heard back from them yet, but this post is probably what they’re going to suggest anyways lol.
P.S.- i am so so SOOOO ready and EXCITED for the new and FINAL portal upgrade!!!! yay! :*)

I can’t save any apps to the SD card, I have a Samsung galaxy tab 2 and doesn’t have the “move to..” button option, so basically with a tablet with only 8 gbs and the OS takes up to 4 gbs only leave me with another 4 for this game and the TSTO 😦

Oh, and one caveat about storing apps or data on SD cards… make sure they are fast, otherwise it might slow down your load times considerably.

When you say, “This app takes up a LOT of memory” and you do the screen grab, what you are referencing there is technically “storage”… “memory” is the space it takes when the app is actually running. Yes, I know mobile devices use memory for both these days, but the type used for running the app is much faster than the type used for storage. I only mention this because you might be confusing some people. Geek out…

I did hear back from TinyCo on Android 5.0 compatibility. It’s coming, but probably not for a few more weeks. They are aiming to push that update closer to the official public launch. That could be anywhere between November 3rd and 17th…

Just want to add a technical tip for those who may not know: There is a big difference between “restarting” (aka rebooting) your device and doing the full shutdown and power-up process. The restart is faster and doesn’t clear out your phone’s RAM/cache as thoroughly. I have an older device, and if I’ve been texting+emailing+using navigation, or what have you, all of that stuff adds up in like a virtual mental clutter, and my game will crash or lag. Once I shut down fully, let it sit for a moment (especially if the phone is now warm to the touch — let it cool down) and power back on, then go straight to the game, things are good in Quahog again. 🙂 (I also follow Bunny’s other advice regarding indoor tasks, storing stuff, etc.)

The reason we suggest a restart is for some reason many players still do not have an account linked, clearing cache and data will cause them to possibly lose their game. So the option to clear is in the other post I linked for the basics. 😉

Ah, I didn’t realize that. My phone doesn’t delete application data when I shut it down – just clears out the background noise, so to speak. It’s typically the same as powering your computer fully down then booting up fresh. Phones have a lot more variations, though, so I wasn’t aware some platforms might actually remove account info on shut down. Good to know – Thanks!

Its wicked annoying to have to store buildings and decos you shelled out clams for or work hard to get in past events. my phone is ancient technology (3 years old) and it does nothin but crash. My favorite time and most offen time for it to happen is when I just sent all my quahogians out on new tasks and before it saves it cuts to black screen. So what have we learned addicts? its pointless to buy clams because in three months you will just be putting it in innovatory a month later.

How many unfinished tasks do you have in your task menu bar? If there is a ton, it wont leave any room for new ones. Try to clear some out.

Is Tinyco being cagey and not telling you guys, or is it not a set limit, but dependant on the phone and/or which quests are pending?

I put a lot of buildings in storage, deleted a few apps that I don’t use (this game is worth it, lol).

Anyway, this morning it started again. Honestly, there were a ton of trick or treaters, terror dogs and ghost in my town. I didn’t want to but…
I put a lot more things in storage….(yes, compared to how it use to look my town is empty). I realize that after the event is over I can put them back because there won’t be so much going on.
I purchase the largest pack of stink bombs and use all of them killing as many trick or treaters as I could; and of course tapped all the ghost. Not much I can do about the dogs.
And I also decreased the amount of characters that are out on the street (again)…. It seems like a lot but it worked!!!
Everyone should consider cleaning up their town before the new release tonight! These crashes are very annoying!

I’m still getting a lot of low resolution objects. All the mayor west stuff, some comic con items, and random Halloween buildings and decos too. When I zoom all the way in it looks hideous, huge pixels and whatnot.

They may purposely be doing that to help combat some devices having issues with the game. You are welcome to ask them via your game menu.

It has gone a bit crash crazy for me since yesterday. Seems to be since the increased zoom out returned, which is odd as I never really suffered crashes before they restricted it.

Awesome info..yes my game crashes more often now and everything currently in my town is only money earners and this events items (animated things all in storage)…even that barely fits now lol. Have close to 1.5 million coins and know I should store more…but its like picking your favorite kid…which buildings do you store? Btw the bunny pic is awesome (now I feel like the kid in a Christmas Story that says I like Santa, I like the Tin Man)

Another thing I have tried is in the “apps” settings, just go ahead and delete the data. Mind you, this is ok ONLY if you have signed in before with Facebook (or some other way I assume).
Next time you load the game it will take you to the beginning but you just sign in and skip everything and your game can reload. All my stuff is there.
I also had over a gig of data stored but after this I have my town back and all my stuff and it’s less than a quarter of that now.
I do it from time to time on a couple phones playing this game.

This is a highly, HIGHLY unoptimized game and lags on any device. It lags on Galaxy S5, Nexus 7 2013, even BlueStacks on PC, even if you allocate more RAM.
No words if whether TinyCo is going to be working on actually optimizing it and making it run like a GAME?

I use bluestacks, and I got mine to speed up by increasing the window resolution (leave the guest resolution alone) to match the desktop setting. I also boosted the vram to 2048. It runs in full HD and performs better than it did on my spare Galaxy S2.

Matching the resolution helps because then it doesn’t have to do all the work of interpolating.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s basically unplayable on my galaxy S5. Tsto was in a similar state up until a few months ago when they started fixing bugs and not just endlessly rolling out more and more crash-heavy content. I never had to store everything to keep playing that, and I certainly wouldn’t mind a break in family guy events if it brought a little more stability.
