It was one of those short blasts from the past, blink and you’ll miss it events. But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to hear how you got on in Best of 2016 Event.
These polls are really just to share how we all did. personally I liked this mini-event as it meant some down time as I only needed to unlock Jim Kaplan, I was also lucky enough not to be playing on Android, and as a bonus I managed to pick up a couple of premium characters I’d been coveting since their original appearances in the game, Big Bad Brian and Dino Chris, however I lucked out on Munchkin Mayor West once again, I’m destined never to get that full house of Oz characters.
So we saw 2 much requested characters return, Giant Chicken and Ollie Williams, along with the character costume Little Red Riding Stewie. And a brand new character to unlock, everyone’s favourite conman, Jim Kaplan. Straight up as much as I was glad see the return of Giant Chicken for players I’d have preferred see him in Tan Lines, rather than another timed event. But I hoped it would be third time lucky for any Addicts still trying to get him.
What did I like, well the balloon pop game was fun, but again the game of chance trying to win tokens was a massive headache, every time I saw 3 building tokens I moaned and groaned and thought about the players who needed more tokens than just the Kaplan ones I needed.
The tokens were nice idea but instead of 4 individual types, TinyCo should have had just one general token and let players choose which characters to unlock with their haul of it. As it was you could have say 10 of each token, so 40 tokens in all and still walk away from the event with nothing. That’s soul destroying for a player TinyCo. Please don’t do this to us again. Pretty please.
And now to the big WTD moment of the event, the building tokens, way too many of them. And talking of buildings why bring back buildings that many already had. Where were the buildings people lucked out on due to their high currency cost, like the Oz event buildings for example. I know there I go talking about Oz again, don’t worry one day I’ll stop, mind you I will probably need to be pronounced not just merely dead but really most sincerely dead for it to happen.
Sadly some of the gremlins that permeated the Christmas event also found their way into this one, leaving many players locked out for days. But TinyCo did compensate players for this with 24 free darts.
I liked the mystery boxes filled with only characters and costumes. Do this during events and we will buy more, please just remove all of those materials and animated decorations and instead put in a handful of old characters and costumes.
So how did I do, well in the end I got Jim Kaplan and in the quiet time I started rebuild more of my town, only to haul it apart again looking for Ganesha in the new event, as he did a disappearing act in some of our games. Those gremlins are everywhere just now.
However from the comments it seemed many addicts were struggling or coming up short on tokens but hopefully things improved for you and you snatched up some goodies from the returning character stall by the end of the event. Guess we will only know once we collate the results of our poll.
But in general it should have been a little fun filler event, but the Android glitch and the low token drops for many players sadly made this an unfortunate mini carbon copy of the Christmas event. At times the game is beginning to feel too much like hard work rather than the fun distraction from real life it once was.
And with that I will shut up so you can take a minute away from your games to share your progress with us and as always I will bring you the results next week.

This was a short and simple event for me as I already have all characters, so I only had to work on Jim Kaplan, I was a little disappointed with the buildings on offer as I had pretty much all of them, as for the Mystery Boxes I didn’t open any as I already had all the outfits/characters that they contained so I didn’t see them in my game. I was happy that this year they offered a character that hadn’t been previously available, as with the past two ‘Best Of’ events they only offered old characters, which meant I had nothing to work towards which gave me a short break from the game.

I only unlocked Ollie – I had 18/20 for RRH Stewie, and 17/20 for Giant Chicken. Unfortunately, I would’ve needed 200 clams to finish them off and I only had 40. I got the 24 bonus darts which is why I got so close, but it kept giving me darn building tokens towards the end. I really wish we could pop darts for tickets and then just use the tickets to buy whatever we want – a character, skin, or buildings. None of this random / chance token rubbish.

Had giant chicken, Ollie and red riding hood stewie. Got Kaplan, but had to spend clams because wouldn’t be able to get another go with darts to get the last Kaplan token. Ended up with a bunch of useless building tokens because I had the majority of them, and the ones I dude have, I didnt have them because I didn’t want them the first time around, so why would I want them this time. And the others I didn’t need a second copy.

When this was dropped on us, I thought it would be a slam dunk: collect some darts, pop some balloons, turn over some tokens, get Jim Kaplan. The only reason I didn’t finish with getting Jim Kaplan was because TinyCo decided it didn’t want me to get Jim Kaplan and basically said so in an in-game message response. I finished with over 75 building tokens and not near enough Jim Kaplan tokens. This should have been a reward for loyal playing. I should have gotten Jim Kaplan around Day Five and then been able to kick back, finish off some Christmas event tasks and relax. It was anything but. One of the reasons I don’t buy every premium character and building is I want to play the event and not be done in a day. But if TinyCo is going to flat out make it so the event is not able to be completed and then admit as such, what is the purpose of playing? I feel like Sheldon did when Amy Farrah Fowler erased the tic-tac-toe board just when he was about to win the game. 😦

I thought this would be an easy event because I already had most of the characters. I only needed the chicken & kaplan, but I didn’t already have the characters that dropped kaplan tokens & I didn’t buy them the first time around because I didn’t want them so I wasn’t going to now either…. So didn’t get kaplan… And the only character I actually wanted but didn’t get all year was bertram and he wasn’t available. Thanks tinyco.. great job. 👏🏻

Since I only started playing last Feb, this was my first Best Of event. I only needed Jim and chicken, and got them, but was this really a good Best Of event? I know there are many other characters people with have wanted besides the ones offered. I’d imagine if you needed all those characters, it was no easy feat with all those building drops.

I managed to unlock Ollie, then I got the gift of Darts & managed to finally snag Giant Chicken as well. I already had RH Stewie; I wish some of those characters had tasks, even if it was just for Building Tokens, a la Neil Goldman. Instead, 2016 *costumes* had tasks, while their *character* had an Event Task too! Frustrating!
What’s the point of giving Bonnie’s Cheerleader costume a 24hr task to Always drop Ollie Tokens, when Bonnie can potentially earn Darts 3/4 times a day, earning 3 (admittedly Random) Tokens per Dart? And the absuridity of the DinoChris Costume having a 24hr task to Always get a Dart, when Chris ALSO earns Darts up to 3/4 times a day?!
If they were going to give people 24hr tasks to Always drop something, it really would’ve been nice if the tasks were given to characters/costumes who WEREN’T part of the core Event. (& why even have 24hr tasks during an Event that’s only ONE WEEK LONG?!)
Those oddities aside, I did enjoy the event, though it would’ve been nice to either have more characters getting Darts (maybe the 3 returning Unlockable Characters?), or to have the algorithm adjusted to not get so many Building Tokens (no way would I have gotten GC w/out the gift!). I liked the Balloon Pop Game, and I was pleasantly surprised to randomly find Billy Finn to unlock in my game. The Event wasn’t ridiculously complicated, and didn’t drag on and on & the prizes were reasonably straightforward. *shrug*

I was very displeased with this event. Firstly. I had previously unlocked giant chicken during the wrestling event, had I’m my tan lines. But when the event started there he was having to be re earned again. Contacted support they gave me the same run around they do every time there is an issue, thankfully they didnt ask me to clear out all my buildings and characters again (which of the 3 times they told me to do that zero have worked). SO I missed out on jim, and lost my giant chicken.

Sadly,this event was the straw that finally broke my dear little camels back,after I’d paid 200 clams to unlock the main reason why we’re rebuilding Quahog (shouldn’t the chicken have been a free reward for all those that actually finished all the districts? but I guess if it can make tinyco money,,,,) I came to the realisation that what amounts to some yellow pixels that were to be stored away in a ‘hotel’ in the hope of getting some brown ones wasn’t worth my time and effort,thanks tinyco for what was a fun little game but now seems dying/dead.
Also big big thanks to you girls,the information you provide is invaluable to most of us.

It’s true that you need to enjoy a game to continue playing it and at the end of the day this is basically a city builder and character collecting game. If that aspect is no longer enjoyable to you then fair enough 🙂 Main thing is for you to have fun!

I didn’t like this event much. The tokens are a real pain; way too many buiding tokens, I agree on that one. I also found that MY drops decrease considerably the last days of the event (or the deadline if it’s a 7-day unlock character). It’s been like that since the Future mini-event to get Stu. I needed only 1 token for LRR Stewie and 4 for Giant Chicken. On the last day I got the one for Stewie and 11 building tokens. I would have spent clams to get the chicken if I ended up missing only 1 or 2, but I didn’t have 160 clams (and don’t feel like spending them either given how the game’s working).
I did get Mother Maggie though. She just popped there ready to get unlocked. A little compensation I guess.

I’ve missed out on the giant chicken at every opportunity now and I can’t tell anymore if I actually want him in my game or if it’s just because I’ve not been able to unlock him any other time.

I felt kinda obligated to vote ‘Liked It’ having unlocked the two characters that I didn’t already own. However the event wasn’t much fun and I would’ve been very close to failure without the 24 free darts, perhaps unlocking Giant Chicken with a bit of luck but not Jim Kaplan.

Horrid drop rates considering I only needed Kaplan coins. I was able to go 3 straight days with receiving only building coins which were not needed. Did contact tinyco and there reply while not the typical canned response, was quite snarky. Adding that to the Christmas event and I finally quit the game. Don’t know if I’ll try it ever again but regardless, whether tinyco gets it or not without this site I don’t see how this game even exists still. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the help you all offered.

The past few events have been incredibly frustrating especially sue to drop rates based on mystery boxes. I too was very tempted to just give up, but I do enjoy the dialogue so I decided to just chill and dip in as freemium for now. Maybe see you in the future, if not have fun!

I got one of those snarky replies. I was not happy about it. Rude! I’ve noticed others complain very recently about it also. Someone posted they were told to pay attention to what they were clicking and buying before they clicked next time. I got the same thing! It put a very bad taste in my mouth to be sure!

I got the same “pay attention” reply to first wrong click I’ve ever done in the game, it was infuriating. They’ll never see another dime from me, I’m pretty much done with this now miserable game anyway.

I thought the mystery box was terrible. I bit the bullet and dropped 250 clams because every character was supposed to drop tokens. I wound up with Dino Chris, who was absolutelt pointless. His only related task was a 24 hour task that dropped a dart. Which was dumb, because regular Chris had a 6 hour task with the same result. Waste of clams.

My wife also plays this game, and her android couldn’t log into this event for the first 3 days. She did NOT receive any darts for compensation, despite Tiny Co claiming all android users would be compensated with extra darts. My wife contacted TinyCo about this issue, but they just kept repeating that she should have been compensated with darts, which again, she was not.
I apologize if this is the wrong place to put this message, but I’m not sure if it fit under WTD or not, as the dart issue was addressed previously there, but not for players who were not compensated with darts. I’m just still upset about it.

I only had two Mystery Boxes to choose from anyway. I had everything already from one of the boxes.
Also, I only had to collect tokens for one character – Jim Kaplan.
I would have liked to have seen more characters on offer. Most of them were costumes / outfits. I already had almost all of the ones that were available. They never seem to rerelease any of the ones that I actually want.. I am still missing a few from “A Grimm Knight In Quahog” and again, where the (beep) was Bertram?

I like the Best of Events since it gives us a chance to get characters we weren’t able to get before. To me this year seemed harder. Maybe it’s because I needed a lot of the characters. The thing I am still trying to figure out is, the tokens. I noticed that even if you had the required tokens for the character, you may still not get it if the other character wasn’t unlocked. And the building tokens…ahh.

I was able to get two characters I did not have before, Neil and billy Finn. I didn’t have to do anything, they just unlocked. Wasn’t able to get the chicken, too many building tokens for buildings I already had, or didn’t want. I didn’t care for red riding hood, would have liked Jim Kaplan, but REALLY wanted the chicken.

I liked the chance to get Ollie as I don’t remember seeing him before and got him without a lot of hassle. I had missed out on Giant Chicken before and ended up having to spend clams to get the last tokens I needed for him. Didn’t get Jim Kaplan but not worried at that as I didn’t recognise the character.
I did get Billy Finn from one of the boxes but I thought I had unlocked him before so thought it strange he was in there. Maybe I just remembered him from an event.

Sooooo….. *deep breath* I managed to unlock Jim Kaplan and sent him on a task. The issue was it was about 45 minutes before the end of event and it didnt save correctly to the server. I ended up logging in on a different device and he was no where to be found.
To the credit of TniyCo they did listen to my complaint and reacted appropriately for a resolution – i still dont have Jim Kaplan though.
The did give me a little tip though – go to the Ollyverse to force a save of the game. I was not aware of that tip but will be now for sure!

I would have liked the event if it had lasted longer. I did pick up a few buildings though, so that was nice.

Ended up splitting tokens the whole time between Kaplan and the GC. Wanted Kaplan more, but in the end, he would have cost me as much as a premium character to unlock. So another miss for me. Color me disappointed.

I was one of those affected by the glitch. Good that we were compensated with free darts. Like everyone else. By then it was too late to catch up. Too many building and different tokens and RT got it absolutely right to say I ended up with about 10 tokens for each new character but nothing for me eventually.

Now I want Gizmo. All I got was Aunt Flo and bunny suit Peter. I had everything else. I wished they would have had The Undertaker, I think that was 2016. Other characters I need were from before like the horror icons. The event wasn’t that interesting to me because I had almost all of them. But for most people it was probably good. I was happy to get the conman finally. I like getting new characters. I have 185 of 200 (which I’m sure there’s more than 200) so I wish we could get more older characters and skins in Tan Lines. I got the evil monkey so all I have left is Kool-Aids girlfriend. So wish we could get more characters.

I only needed Jim Kaplin and I wound up getting him *solely* due to the gift of the 24 darts. If I didn’t get that, I wouldn’t have received anything from this event. I agree too many building tokens!

I agree with everything you wrote here.esp about only having one token . I was really bummed I only needed 3 more tokens to unlock giant chicken and my last three tries to acquire them only yielded building tokens.
