Where For Art Thou On Unlocking Ted “Theodore” Logan

Hey there Addicts, as much as I can now Time Travel, I still can’t predict what’s going to happen in this crazy game we all play. So I thought I’d drop by with a quick poll to see just how everyone got on unlocking the new timed character, Ted “Theodore” Logan, the reason I ask is some players, including myself, seemed to experience an issue with drops, predominantly on the Leather Vests and Wyld Stallyn Posters.

Anyway unlike unlocking Ted, this is a nice easy poll, it’s just one question and you’ll see the results immediately as the poll gets completed by your fellow addicts. And I’ll ask Bunny feedback the results to TinyCo in order to highlight once again the issues with random drops on timed characters.

  1. Unlocked all buildings before starting the timer. Just tried to get my last poster, no drop in 3 days. Rushed the job with clams 3 times, no drop. I’m a 1st day Premium player. I have uninstalled and will not be playing anymore. Thanks for the great tips, and good luck everyone!

  2. Just over 1 day left on Ted’s timer. Drops have increased in the last 36 hours, but I’m still only at 12/24 on vests, so I need a 100% drop rate over the last day of his availability or I’m not getting him.

Since I can’t remember the last time I saw the Clam TV, I have only 23 clams right now, and can only generate 1 per day from Ollieland. So speeding tasks or buying vests (81 clams for 3 vests) aren’t options for me.

I am actually hoping to miss one of the next 2 drops, so I don’t have to think about setting an alarm for Saturday morning, because sleep is ultimately more important to me than a character who will be sitting in Tan Lines in two weeks.

By way of comparison, I have already finished collecting 15 blueprints and 12 paint palettes for Leonardo da Vinci in less time, with only the Last Supper restaurant unlocked for blueprints, and Meg having already collected 8 palettes before I unlocked Michaelangelo’s Studio. I got 1 palette from placing the building, and 1 more as a drop.

  3. This is the first time I have been truly angry and fed up with this game. I have had plenty of events that I don’t necessarily get far or do that well in and I accept that as being part of ‘the game’… you win some, you lose some. However this time, I unlocked every drop building before beginning Ted Logan’s timer, knowing that this gives me the best chance. I checked in very regularly to make the most of the drops and on seeing the Leather Vests and Posters were slim pickings, I also began to stay up later than I should have. In the end I didn’t have enough clams to buy the final 3 leather vests and paid 4 clams to speed up the building for one final chance at a drop…..I received nothing, and had to see the timer end.. How was I meant to win this? This seemed such an impossible task and I’m not sure I could have done more to increase my chances. Fed up is an understatement…

  4. I’ve just unlocked him (morning for me). His timer had only 4 hours left and I needed 3 vests so there was only one more chance to get him. I was surprised to see those things drop; I had kind of accepted I was going to miss him, lol. I didn’t have much problems with the other drops. Yes, posters didn’t drop often but they were rare, so I thought that was ‘normal’. I got them with 2 days spare I think. I also unlocked all the drops buildings before his.
The funny thing is that vests were not dropping at all, and 2 days ago (I had only 9 vests so it looked like unlocking him was impossible) they started dropping on every collect save the last one yesterday (I can collect 6h buildings 3 times a day). I thought TC had made some changes due to players complaits, but reading the comments I guess they didn’t and I was just lucky. It’s kind of unfair.

  5. I was unaware that Ted was timed when I repaired the building so I was up for a challenge. But I bought Bill, so as a premium player that should not be too difficult. Well… I was wrong. The drops for the vests were terrible and in the end I needed two drops, which is 6 vests. With each vest costing 27 clams I had to spend 162 clams! Is is nice that buildings drop multiple items, but in the end it will cost you a fortune. So for me both Bill and Ted were kind of premium characters. A bit strange for an event starring them :S

  7. I waited until I had all the necessary buildings before starting the timer. Only had problems with the posters. Had everything else within 4 days but only 2 posters (both from Bonnie). As soon as I complained to Tinyco about the drop rates, I had 3 in a row drop. Ended up unlocking him with a little over a day left on the timer.

  8. For me, it was the posters that were the most elusive – which is ridiculous considering that I was able to start collecting for them immediately after placing Ted’s building. I ultimately ended up taking the Clam buyout for 1 poster in the final hour.

I am finding it harder and harder to trust in TC’s labelling of drop rates as “uncommon” or “rare” or whatever, when it seems that everything is dropping completely at random (by contrast, all the “rare” items for DaVinci dropped for me within 2 days). So either the Overlords are deliberately being deceptive, or their probability algorithms are broken – and neither option is acceptable.

I would not be surprised if more and more people quit playing after these types of shenanigans…

  9. I am currently 4 days into Ted’s 7-day timer. Gettysburgers was unlocked before starting the timer. Vests have dropped only once from Gettysburgers since the timer began.

On the bright side, it’s not like I would have wanted to have Ted without Bill, or vice-versa. I’d rather have neither than only one.

  10. I got him, but the posters were rather frustrating, especially since I had Bonnie running the task from the get go. The vests took some time, but at least they dropped multiples and I understood that I didn’t have the building unlocked when the timer started. That said, I REEEEALLYYYY wish they would stop with timed characters (especially coupled with rare/extra rare drops). it takes a lot of the fun away from the game. Other than that this event has been cool to me.

  11. got Ted with no problems, (close to getting Leonardo Da Vinci) used a tip that I got from Tinyco support, close the game – in your phone go to settings – applications, find “Family guy game” hit “force close”
if you wait ten minutes, then you can go back to the game
(warning, do not use the take all coins button, until after you have collected needed items, being played)
    YES….IT WORKS
(videos—use the back arrow on phone, not the (X) I get 7 clams every time)

  12. 20 hours left to decide if I ever play this game again. Unlocked all buildings at the same time as the timer for him. Had the full 7 days and had very few hours pass between collection times. Still need 3 vests and 3 posters. Bonnie has only produced 1 poster. I haven’t played the game in months and just happened to check the day before this event to find out the content was from one of my all-time favorite movies…thought it was fate that I checked…but now I think it is going to be another lesson learned about the reality of “in-game” purchases for pay-to-play games like this.

  13. Running two games (A & B) and drop rates have been horrible! Playing both the same way being that I placed all buildings that drop items before I clicked on Ted. Doing this I am WAY behind in this event (just barely into week two) and my results are:

Game A: 1 day 5 hours 25 mins left on the timer.
    96 of 130 swords
    15 of 24 leather vests
    10 of 16 Lincoln’s top hats
Possibly doable but with drop rates being what they are I’m not counting on it.

Game B: 2 hours 16 mins left on timer.
    3 of 24 leather vests
4 of 10 Wild Stallyns posters
    752 clam buyout to finish
Not happening! Done with the event on this game because what’s the point of a Bill & Ted event without being able to get Bill.

Just like others have stated messages have been sent to TinyCo previously on these timed characters and drop rates. I refuse to set myself up where I need to set a timer to wake up in the middle of the night to play any game. That isn’t fun and still doesn’t guarantee that the drop rates would work in my favor and be able to unlock any given timed character.

I would have bought the Bill S. Preston character for both of my games but only after unlocking Ted and seeing how this has gone (and going in my A game) that’s not happening as I don’t want one without the other.

    • Just an update on my A game.
With a little over 4 hours left I did manage to get him The drops seemed to improve ever so slightly with drops occurring three out of the four times I cleared the buildings. The swords really were no problem.

Now I’m mulling over purchasing Bill or not (probably will). Just getting tired of the “algorithm gods” when it comes to the events in this game.

  15. I got all the necessary buildings before releasing him, but I have had appalling drop rates (again) – after nearly 4 days only 9/24 vests, and 1/10 posters. I play fairly consistently but this is shabby treatment. I’m not even sure I’ll get Leonardo, even with two weeks to go. Come on, TC – make it fun to play, not repeated disappointments.

A great example of why this game has been so frustrating over the years. I unlocked him with over three days left on the timer. In other words, I got incredibly lucky with the drops. I play at the same rate I always do, but I didn’t come close to getting the red ranger and I had to drop about 60 clams to get Rocky.

  18. I unlocked him with time to spare… but only just. I was down to the last few vests needed with ~6h30 to go. I had Gettysburgers before I started his timer and it took me til right at the end to unlock him.
Posters, hats and masks dropped no problems for me but drop rates on the vests was pretty poor.

I echo many many other ppl on this site by saying get rid of timed characters… or at the very least make them achievable for everyone with better drop rates.

  22. I placed the building from the beginning, collected every 6 hours, even used a few clams to rush the timer on the building for vests along. In the end I still only had only 18 vests.. so for some people (like myself) he was definitely a premium character.

  23. I waited for TWO DAYS for vests after I completed all other criteria. My timer ended after I had 6 blanks in a row! I’m very angry. I complained to Tiny Co.. All I got was a form letter asking me to use clams next time! I think I’ll get an Xbox this week. *******

  24. I managed to unlock him, with 10 hours to spare, but dropped a few clams along the way to speed up an hour or two to be on course for the 6 hour drop in between sleep.

My problem is the rare Leather Vests. Drops feel like extra rare, as the other rare item Posters as dropped by Bonnie was ok and collection was complete after 4 days. Despite having the building to drop the Vests as early as I started the timer, I only had enough on last day. Moreover I had to send feedback twice to complain about the drops. Not sure if they did anything but drops did improve somewhat. Overall, this is the toughest Timed Character to unlock. Generally, I just dont like Timed Characters.

  25. Did not get him. I refused to spend the 63 clams to unlock him out of principle. Had all the buildings unlocked with 6 days left in the timer and the drop rates were atrocious. TinyCo better shape up quick, or they will be losing a player for over 2 years.

  28. Hope ted has more to do in week 3 as apart from his questline there isn’t much more he does apart from getting the rats from the plague doctors and quagmire seems to get 5 of those every time he completes the task, so by the time you have made the 2 plague wine from those 5 (two hours each), quagmire would have finished the next plague doctor and got 5 more, so unless you use clams to speed it up you are left with an overflow of plague rats just from using quagmire.

  30. My technique, although it may have set me back a day or two on the main quest line, was to get all the buildings that drop that which I needed prior to starting his timer. It usually works well for me. Although I wish TInyCo would just get rid of the timed characters, I really DO NOT enjoy fighting the timer…

    • Same here. Just need 1 more Wyld Stallyn Poster for Ted with 2 days to go, so should unlock him but making sure that I was fully prepared before starting his timer has set me back a long way.

This event is all about Bill & Ted for me, so I wanted to be sure of getting them both… not too bothered about whatever happens afterwards. Already have Bill as it took less time to collect the additional 70 clams that I needed for him than all the drops for Ted!

      Now… about Rufus?

  35. I collected from Gettysburgers 7 or 8 times in a row without any vests so with 2 hours left to unlock Ted with 6 vests to go, I spent the 170 or so clams to unlock him. I had already decided that I was getting him either way, but the drop rate annoyed me a lot.

  36. I still needed 2 posters. Which is strange as they were the first item available as they dropped from the building you placed to find Ted.

Yet I was able to complete achievements to get time capsules to unlock other buildings to get all other items. Whereas they took time to even get the capsules to unlock the buildings the first building, that was dropping items for the full 7 days, was the one that caused me to not unlock Ted.

  37. I have 3 days left on Ted’s timer but only received one vest and one poster over the past 2 days. I unlocked everything else in the beginning with no problem and thought 5 days would be more than enough to obtain the vests and posters but now I’m not so sure because the drop rates are horrible. I’m checking every 4-6 hours and nothing. I’ll update in 3 days and let you know what outcome I get.

  38. I had over 4 days left to get the 9 remaining vests for Ted. When I didn’t say any drops for over 24 hours or more, I messaged TinyCo and got their usual ‘we’ll pass it along’ answer. Then, with less than 2 days left, I contacted them again with the same response, even when I pointed out that I spent clams to hasten the timeframe.. With only 12 hours left, I obtained 3 vests, and then 3 vests again with 6 hours to go, but on the final time (for which I had to set an alarm so as not to miss it), nothing. So, no Ted. I messaged them again, explaining that I had lots of clams but that I wouldn’t waste them for the vests because a principle was involved; I told them I would have to think twice about continuing in the game. All i got was a ‘sorry you feel that way’ pat answer. I used to play premium all the time, but the continuing costs and lousy drops made me stop doing that. I managed to get through the last event almost totally freemium – it’s TinyCo’s loss, not mine! And I’m sure that I’m not alone in how I feel!!!

    • This is exactly the message we’v been trying to get through to TinyCo over and over again, when you make players happy and make them feel like they are getting value, they spend clams…it’s the RT “Happy Player” marketing approach and I carry my soap box around so I can lecture on it at every opportunity…sorry if you’ve heard it over and over again…

The point is, freemium players are potential premium players, and premium players come in many denominations…and the flip side it, premium players will quickly become freemium when they feel there is no value (or fun) to be gained…

      • Exactly right – I have no intention of spending real money on this game because I see how inherently unfair it is. They really need to get rid of this “random drop” nonsense. Freemium have to wait the maximum time to get drops, but at least they’ll be able to unlock everything each week with enough dedication. Premium players get extra perks, unlock things early, and don’t need to lose any sleep 😛

  40. Nope. Vests killed me, despite having Gettysburgers at a normal pace. Just time and again no vests. I was willing to go and buy the last vests if necessary, but despite checking every time period, I was 9 short. Glad some people got a chance to get him and to get better drops for him.

Now I’m looking at the same problem with Leonardo Stewie. I know he’s not timed, but I also know I need him unlocked to move on to the new week and it’s looking like I’m going to be stuck halfway into the next week before I can unlock him, putting me behind for the next phase. Ack. As a Freemium regular player I question whether the drops/requirements are reasonable. If I was a freemium less regular player, I’d probably have given up by now.

  41. I was able to unlock him with over a day to spare.

With maybe 3 days left, I was only lacking Leather Vests (as with many, many other commenters). But after the last iOS update, it suddenly started dropping vests much more frequently than before. Either I suddenly got lucky, or they altered the drop rate. Regardless, 3 of the last 5 building collections actually dropped vests.

Still don’t know if I was just really lucky or if TinyCo fixed things.

  42. I rushed a couple drops on the last day of his timer, waiting til it was down to a half hour or so. I had three drops on that day to close out after not having anything for two days. That is the annoying part, the ‘randomness’ of drops. Wish they would just make everything an ‘always’ drop and just increase the number required. This frustration of apparently wasting my time is just not fun. I have pleaded repeatedly with TC to just make the game fun to play to no avail. I already have a job, when I play a game I want to have fun.

  43. I still technically have time to unlock the character, but there is no way, for me, that one week is enough time to unlock a character. I have only managed to do it once in the entire time I have been playing the game and that time I was just lucky and had less than an hour to go.
