Quahog’s Excellent Adventure 101: Time Rifts Mini-Game

Hey there Time Travellers!!! Looks like we’ve only gone and ripped the **** out of the Universe!!!

And yeah, yeah, with this the final Phase launched, giving us more options for earning Materials/Currency for the Event… I wanted to go over one of the new elements added to the game, HEALING TIME RIFTS!

Let’s take a look at all that goes into this new option.

For more information on the Event, go HERE

HOW DO I START HEALING TIME RIFTS?

In order to be able to get to the this option, you will need to progress a bit in the Main Questline to Be Excellent To Each Other Pt 4.

At this point you have will have a task to heal a time rift, so just use your phone booth to travel over to the Future Playspace and tap on the building below and the mini game screen will appear.

MINI GAME SCREEN

After tapping on the building above, this screen will appear.

  • The amount of Fusion Fuel you have available in the Lower Left.
  • The SHOOT button in the Lower Right.
  • The circle that is essentially your target that you will use to heal the Time Rifts.
  • Time Rifts

WHAT DO I NEED TO HEAL RIFTS?

You will need fusion fuel.

Fusion Fuel (Always): Craft in the General Store OR Jetpack Joe Fly Whilst Intoxicated (10hrs)

HOW DO I HEAL RIFTS?

This is pretty straight forward. It is more of an “Aim n Shoot” kind of set up. You wait for a minute while the Time Rifts float around, the more that are close to each other the better as you want to get as many as possible with one HIT.

Put your finger on the Target in the middle of the screen and drag it around to where the group of Time Rifts are that you want to get. You will see the circle turn from a Blue/Purple to Red.

Once it is Red, that means you have Time Rifts in your target. Tap on SHOOT to try to heal them. (Better chance of healing more if they are really close to almost on top of one another.)

You will then be given Rewards depending on how many Time Rifts you healed.

WHAT REWARDS DO I GET?

It will vary on how many Time Rifts you heal at a time. Here are MY results, yours may vary.

Per Time Rift Healed
1 Future Time Capsule (Always)
1 Trench Coat (Always)

QUICK RECAP

  • Unlock the Future Clam to start collecting items for Rufus
  • Get to Pt. 4 of the Main Questline
  • Stock up on Fusion Fuel
  • Tap on the mini-game building
  • Drag Target Circle to groups of Time Rifts til it turns Red
  • Tap on SHOOT
  • Get Rewards

There you have it, the Basics of healing Time Rifts. Another element added to the game to help you earn Materials to unlock Rufus and get other items in the game.

What are your thoughts? Have you started to heal Time Rifts yet? If so, what is the most you’ve healed with one Shoot? Any other tips for fellow Players? Let us know.

  1. Well due to terrible hit detection (I had 3 targets lined up center mass and spent 6 minutes waiting for the perfect shot after testing the zones) I only got 1 coat on what will be my last chance on getting goats via the mini game. This brought my final total to 16 which means I can buy him for 60 and its Carlin so obviously i will! I’m gonna wait until this afternoon in case they extend the event and keep a full queue at the general store. I really hope they extend by a day as I could knock a few more coats off and maybe hit the 60 mark on the Week 4 achievements! I’m at 48 right now.

what time does the event end ? 3 pm their time like always ? cuz that’s 1 AM my time and my next shot is at 11 pm (2 hrs before the event ends) but i don’t want to be late or anything and lose Rufus just bcz of a few clams ..

According to TinyCo it’s the usual 3pm PDT end, so you should get that last hit in. I just unlocked him 5 minutes ago!!!

  3. Even though each trench coat costs 28 clams, the cost of unlocking Rufus on Wednesday will be around 100 clams, so if you got the Estate Fountain it’s sorta like getting him for free…

  4. I’ve been doing pretty good for the whole event and unlocked many of the characters that I wanted. As usual, I tend to get burned out by the last week of every event so I’m not gonna sweat over these 12 hour time rifts. I’m going to try my best to unlock Rufus but I’ve enjoyed this event immensely so far and am not gonna get stressed out now lol I really hope that Tiny Co continues to make the weekly challenges the way they did this time, A+ improvement.

  6. this game sucks so bad and is so badly programmed … those targets are very misleading or the game itself is glitched !!! again 3 aligned , 1 hit .. i only got 3 coats after 4 hits instead of 8 or 12 ..!!!

I tested out Troy theory that only certain parts of the Ruft are considered on target, and he’s right. So I think that’s why we are getting less rewards tha we expect fro. Our hits. Here’s Troy’s comment, hope it ges you plan your shots, I hit 3 earlier, finally!

“My two cents to help as much as possible…
Explore the target boundaries by just moving around the cross hairs; you will quickly change what you’ve been aiming at. For instance, the hat and headdress are NOT included in the target area, however below these two rifts there is a rather notable blank area that DOES count as target area. Then, behind the dinosaur’s back is a dead zone even though it may seem otherwise. Hope this helps to improve aim!”

    • I know the feeling, I’ve managed to get 2 coats on one try so far, the others I’ve either gotten 1 or in one case zero. They really need to drop the time required to make the fuel for this to even be possible.

    • I can only imagine what it would be like with a “lag”, which fortunately I don’t have in my game. (iPhone 7, iOS 10.3.2) I have managed 3 rifts at once, twice in a row, after only 1 and 2 rifts before that. I have half the trenchcoats I need, now.

      • i have iphone 6 iOS 10.3.2 as well and the game skips a beat .. but i finally managed to hit 3 .. im up to 7 coats now .. im hoping to get at least 15 before i buy out the rest …

  7. When I first clicked on the time rift in my game it was the goldfish pond from a prior event. Later when I actually had fusion fuel, it was the time rift as usual. Obvious recycle of old game elements.

That’s always been the case in this game, it’s why so many players were recently asking for some new or different game play elements

      • I did really good when it was the goldfish pond in the previous event. The current event mini game is not so easy and takes forever to collect items to even play. I like the event overall, but this is not a good way to end the last phase!

    • Yep, and before that back to the original Star Trek event- that is what this version reminds me of the most (miss the phaser effect!). It did crack me up the first time I clicked on this when this phase launched and there was the koi pond again, too bad I had no bait! 😄 I am enjoying this event though there is some recycling and the same ol do A to earn B to craft C to finally get D!! Ugh… 9 coats left and Rufus will be in my game basically freemium. We’ll see how it goes. Good luck all!👍

  8. Do we have any reason to believe that the extra time capsules we have should be saved to buy event related buildings that usually pop up in the last 2 days or so of the event. I have enough Mayan time capsules leftover to get 30 future ones but I’m not sure if I should save them. Thoughts?

It’s hard say if they will release anything fir Time Capsules such as the General Stores or that. I usually just keep them until the last day then spend them, that way if something new drops into the store I can get it.

  12. I got 3 on my first go, but for my 2nd and 3rd attempts I only got two – mainly because I got sick of waiting for 3 to align themselves again!

I’m on target to get Joe in the next 16ish hours (only need 3 more remotes), and Rufus shouldn’t be much further away – I need 8 guitars, 16 trenchcoats, and 1 of each of the rest (vip, phone, glasses) so it should be quite doable. It looks like I won’t even need to unlock the Weapons Museum or Concert Hall, so I’ll leave them until near the end of the event

    • Ugh I can’t count. I need 15 trenchcoats, which is still 8 rift closures if I only manage 2 each time. That’ll take less than 4 days once I get Joe working on fuel as well

      Like

  13. Agreed. At 22 coats, best case you need 11 successful shots, and it’s 12 hours for 1 shot. That’s 5 days. I would say he is out of reach for the freemium players.

    • Don’t forget Joe will generate fuel, so it should be slightly better than 12 hours. I’m freemium and will have Joe unlocked in 6 hours. For Rufus I need 13 more Trench Coats, which is currently 3.5 days away even without Joe helping. It should be possible, assuming everyone started this week on time (I’ve been finished each week 1-2 early).

  14. I fell a little behind durinh 2nd week and been playing catch up. I got into this phase a little before midnight Friday (and I had to bypass last week’s prize or it would have taken longer). I have had 3 shots. The first before I knew to line up the fissures so that was 1 trench coat. The other two I took with three lined up (I assumed it would take 7 tries and we are on short time). My game hesitates on the shot, but continues to move the fissures, so 2 more trench coats. I don’t think I have a chance because currently I need 9.5 days at this rate and even if I get joe dropping fuel at 3 hours per cell, that 4.5 to 5 days. And I expected I would have to clam Rufus a little, I don’t think I have enough to cover remaining costs, but I just might make it under the wire.

I have also contacted TinyCo to perhaps see if they could help, because I am not able to see the future enough to see three fissures heading towards each other to shoot and have them hit with the game delay.

Jetpack Joe has a 10hr task with a Fusion Fuel drop, hopefully that will help us a little. Not much mind you. I agree it may take some clams if you really want Rufus, but the clam unlock cost is going down well in my game.

I’m having same problem, just had 2 completely in target, but only 1 hit registered.

      • I had 3 targeted. I was showing one of my friends the mini game at the time. I swear that 3 were lined up, my friend is certain that they were as well. Only one target was hit.. The other two targets? They seemed to be invincible.. At the very least it should have hit two of them. 🤔

Another player has indicated certain parts of the rifts don’t activate the target, so have a play around, see which parts turn the target red, I think that’s possibly what’s causing the issue, possibly an area in some Rifts that doesn’t register is in the target, along with a Rift that turns the target red. So we think we’ve got 3 when we haven’t.

This was what Troy said in his comment: “My two cents to help as much as possible… Explore the target boundaries by just moving around the cross hairs; you will quickly change what you’ve been aiming at. • they answered my complaint by “i will forward this to the team” .. on my 3rd shot i hit two targets .. also it seems right after you shoot … 3 targets align. … this happened to me every time of my 3 shots so far lol

on a happier note i repaired the guitar – dropping building (cryo – lab ?) hopefully dr hartman won’t be teasing me much anymore …

  17. Lame! 12 hours for one chance…. WHY?! So very frustrating!!! FOUR?! I don’t understand why they made it take so long to craft fuel at 3 hours each! Maybe it’s a mistake, and it was supposed to be a half hour. I feel like there was an event pretty similar, and the last part – whatever the object was only took a half hour to craft. Or at was 4t minutes, I’m not sure….It was not 3 hours! Come on, TinyCo!

  18. My first try I got 1, not thinking about multiples (shame on me). My second try I had 3 lined up but when I hit fire it not only moved my reticle all the way down, it also wasted my shot! (Shame on the game). They should make the process for creating fuel shorter for sure.

  21. Painfully slow….12 hrs for one shot!?
Only managed 2 “shots” so far but fortunately managed to bag 2 & 3 hits so at this rate it will take me another 7 attempts. Going to be tight. Going to be VERY tight!

  22. yeah, this one is a bust, 12 hours (4 hour glasses, 3hours each) for 1 chance at Trench Coat (22 needed) with only 5 days left…..don’t count on getting Rufus any time soon…..
