Guys In Black 101: Ming The Merciless

This guys eyebrows are ON POINT! I wonder if he does YouTube Make Up Tutorials. 😉

“Pathetic earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void, without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe, anything at all, you would’ve hidden from it in terror.”

Phase 3 has decided to drop into our silly lil Quahogs for the Guys in Black Event. With it came another New Bad Guy to Battle. He comes from somewhere in the 60’s outerspace with a fantastic Spaceship. Ming the Merciless is in now our games to Battle.

Just what does this incarnation do for the Event? Let’s take a look.

For more information on the Event, go to the Event Page HERE

WHEN DOES MING APPEAR?

During the Main Questline, Savior of the Suburbs Pt. 5, you will trigger Ming the Merciless’ Information. However, you will have to wait for him to appear before you can battle him.

He will show up over by the Event Area next to the Crashed Area Site. You will see his Spaceship hanging out until he shows up.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BATTLE MING?

Red Flower Necklaces. You will need 2 for every Battle you want. (You can collect them before he shows up, as long as you have triggered them to payout first by triggering Ming the Merciless Information.)

Red Flower Necklace: Clear Bats

WHAT CHARACTERS CAN BATTLE MING?

You have the option to select UP TO 3 Characters to Battle him. You will just need to make sure they are available, unlocked, and not in the healing process.

The more you add to YOUR TEAM, the stronger Hit Power you will have to Battle and take down Ming.

 Spacewoman Lois

Edgar the Bug

Hawkman Chris

Flash God

Flash Gordon

WHAT KIND OF DAMAGE CAN EACH CHARACTER DO?

The Characters that can Battle Ming the Merciless each have their own Hit Power, Health, and % Chance they will deliver a knockout blow during a Battle and completely take their opponent out.

SPACEWOMAN LOIS
Health
: 4
Hit Power: 6
% Chance: 20% Chance

EDGAR THE BUG
Health
: 8
Hit Power: 6
% Chance: 20% Chance

HAWKMAN CHRIS
Health
: 4
Hit Power: 6
% Chance: 20% Chance

FLASH GOD
Health:
4
Hit Power:
6
% Chance:
20% Chance

FLASH GORDON
Health
: 6
Hit Power: 6
% Chance: 20% Chance

WHY CAN’T I SELECT MY CHARACTER?

There can be a couple of reasons you are unable to SELECT a Character to go to Battle.

BUSY: If the Character you want to use is on a Task elsewhere in the game, you will see the word BUSY and a GET Icon next to them. If they are on a Task, tapping GET will take you to them and ask if you want to finish that Task right away for Clams.

NOT UNLOCKED: If you have not Clam Purchased a Character or you are still collecting Materials in the game to Unlock a Character, they will also show up with a Lock Icon and a GET Icon next to them. You will need to continue earning their Required Materials & Unlock them in order to use them for Battle.

HEALING: After a Character’s Health is dropped to Zero, they go through a Healing Process (Currently 8hrs/ Superwoman Lois Only 4hrs). While they are Healing, you can’t use them to Battle.

HOW LONG WILL CHARACTERS HEAL?

The Current Healing time frame on Characters is as follows…

Flash God: 3hrs HEAL
Spacewoman Lois: 4hrs HEAL
Hawkman Chris: 4hrs HEAL
Flash Gordon: 6hrs HEAL
Edgar the Bug: 8hrs HEAL

You will see a HEAL Icon next to them in the Battle Screen along with a timer showing you how much longer you will have to wait before being able to Revive them.

Can I Heal them Instantly?
YES. If you want to speed up the Healing Process and want your Character to Battle right now, you can tap on the HEAL Icon and use Revive Potion to give them their full strength back instantly. The Game will ask you if you are sure you want to use this method.

How many Revive Potions do I have?
There is a Revive Potion Icon above the Characters in the Battle Screen that will show your current available count of Revive Potions left.

HOW DO I GET REVIVE POTIONS?

Mainly, by spending Clams. There are various ways throughout the Event to do this. Here are the current options available I see.

Clam Buy Shopping Cart Options:

x15 Revive Capsules600
x8 Revive Capsules340
x3 Revive Capsules150

Intergalactic Mystery Box (Jarra Joe): 150 Clams per Try

Jarra Joe Go On Patrol (24 Task)

Instant One Time Clam Buy via Battle Screens:

Or you will see a pop up at end of a battle to HEAL CHARACTERS. Tapping in it will give you the option to pay Clams  Option to HEAL a Character just once.

Instant ONE TIME Heal Cost

8hrs = 72 Clams
6hrs= 64 Clams
4hrs = 55 Clams
3hrs = 50 Clams

WHAT KIND OF DAMAGE CAN MING DO?

Ming the Merciless will be battling back against the Characters. He also will have a Health, Hit Power, and Chance of dealing Knockout Blows (though it is an unknown %). This is why using more than one Character can be beneficial to take him down. His Health and Hit Power are high.

MING THE MERCILESS
Health
: 48
Hit Power: 20
% Chance: UNKNOWN

This means he can attack multiple Characters up to 20 Points.

CAN I MISS?

Yes! Either side of the Battle can miss. Whether it is your Character or the Bad Guy you are battling against. A MISS is a chance that will be mixed in there with everything else. You will see MISS float up to the Health Bar instead of a number when it happens.

This can also happen more than once per Battles, so there is a chance that 1 up to all 3 Characters can be missed during an attack.

WHAT KIND OF REWARDS CAN I GET FROM BATTLING MING?

The Rewards you will receive will depend on whether you WIN (NEUTRALIZED) the Battle or LOSE (ATTACK OVER!) the Battle. So your Rewards will vary.

These are the kind of Rewards I saw in my game. Keep in mind some may only show when that Character is available to earn.

WIN Chance Payout (NEUTRALIZED!):
+1 Golden Belt
+ 20 Alien Slime
+150 MIB Badges

A Winning Battle means that you dropped Ming the Merciless Health to Zero, even if your Character is wiped out in the process too. You will still get Rewards for the Win.

LOSS Chance Payout (ATTACK OVER!):
+15 Alien Slime
+5 MIB Badges

A Losing Battle means you were NOT able to get Ming the Merciless to Zero Health before your Character(s) did, so you will still get a payout… just smaller for the loss. You can also keep trying after a loss until you defeat him.

HOW DO I START A BATTLE?

When you see Ming the Merciless in the Event Area… tap on him and his Battle Screen will open up.

Then Select 1, 2, or 3 Characters to Battle him. (You can UNSELECT a Character if you change your mind)

You will need TWO Red Flower Necklaces for Each Battle. Once you have selected your Character(s) AND if you have at least TWO, then you will see the Button under Ming the Merciless Image light up green with BATTLE. Tap on it to Start the Battle.

The Animation Screen will then appear and you will watch as your Character(s) attempt attack hits on Ming the Merciless on them. You will know how strong each hit was by the RED NUMBER that floats up to their Health Bar after each hit.

Once complete, the Reward Screen will appear showing you if you won or lost the Battle and what Materials you will be Rewarded will be.

NEUTRALIZED! = WIN

ATTACK OVER!= LOSS

HOW CAN I DEFEAT MING?

With a little bit of strategy, and a little bit of luck, you can take down Ming the Merciless. Overall, you need to find a way to Hit Ming the Merciless and take away all 48 of his Health Points.

Ming has a VERY high Health for this Battle Set Up. I would suggest to clear as many Bats as you can and stock up on those Red Flower Necklaces. Then when you are ready, plan on attacking him with as many Characters as you can.

Some Battles took me 3 times to completely defeat Ming.

HOW DO I KNOW HOW MUCH HEALTH MING HAS LEFT?

You can either tap on him in the Event Area, or just look above his head. He does show a Heart Health Counter right above him as he is hanging out in the Event Area by his War Rocket Ajax.

This can help you to know some possible combinations of Character(s) attacks that you can set up to try and defeat him fully.

WHEN WILL MING THE MERCILESS BE BACK TO BATTLE AGAIN?

Right now there is not a time frame for Ming the Merciless to return after he has been defeated in Battle. In my game, it is within 24hrs after a defeat I am seeing his return. Just not a pinpoint exact time I can offer.

QUICK RECAP

  • Unlock Character(s)
  • Collect at least 2 Red Flower Necklaces
  • Wait for Ming the Merciless to appear
  • Select Character(s) to Battle Ming the Merciless
  • Battle Ming the Merciless
  • Collect Rewards
  • Let Character(s) Heal
  • Repeat if necessary

There you have the basics of Battling Ming the Merciless for the Guys in Black Event.

Have you seen Ming the Merciless yet? If so, have you tried to Battle him yet? What do you think of the Battles? Tips for fellow Players? Let us know.

  1. Yeah! Managed to get a defeat in whilst we’re currently enjoying triple points, so I’m currently soaring high on the leaderboard at position 240 with 3,420 points!
    Can’t see it lasting though……….

  5. Assuming one plays freemium, I reckon I need 3 waves of attack. Two times hit with Lois and Chris and Edgar. Then one final hit with either 2 of the 3. Provided there is no misses.

    • I’ve been lucky and took him out in less than 3 waves of attacks, hope you do to.

      • Thanks for the kind wishes. Still need half a day more to unlock Chris costume. And then 3 more days to unlock Flash. Space licenses really tough, with only Meg dropping and 8 hour intervals don’t help at all. At least, I’ve got 4 out of 7 swords just from using Lois alone. A couple of misses but warrants have been dropping kindly for me.

  6. I have attacked him twice so far with both spacewoman Lois and Edgar the bug together and between the two attacks managed to knock him down a total of 3 points in power each attack so 6 points out of his 48 power using 2 characters. At this rate it will be another full week before I completely kill him off! Not sure why so low but that’s what it’s been so far in my game. I thought each of Lois and Edgar had a chance of doing 6 damage each per battle but I guess that’s an ultra rare chance indeed. Don’t know what I could do to improve those stats but getting these necklaces to even do the battles are near impossible with just Lois to battle the bat’s it is taking me 3 attacks per bat to get one set of necklaces!

  7. so u defeated him more than once ? (for badges?)

i still am attacking him with Edgar alone … 3 attacks so far and he still has 30 HP

  8. With this high health boss it is more correct to say that the % chance is a % chance for a critical hit (double damage) rather than a knockout.
