420 Guy Week 4 – Where Are You Now

Hey there Addicts, it’s time to find out where how you’re getting on in the latest event to hit our games!Yes with the final week of the event halfway over I thought it was time for the Where Are You Now Poll.

I also wanted to quickly address  once again some of the concerns players have over a lack of recent responses from support at TinyCo.  I’ve been following up on this with them,  and they have assured me they working hard to get things back on track  but want to thank players for their patience at this time. But I know it’s saw some players have to miss out on this event and others stuck in the early weeks. I’m not TinyCo but I’m sorry about it all.

So with that out of the way you best get busy casting your votes Addicts. And remember the results will show and update as players answer, so it will also let you gauge where you are compared to others.

Thanks as always and feel free to leave any other helpful feedback or thoughts in the comments. And of course if your feeling like venting you can vent it out in the What The Deuce post HERE.

  1. Yep, zero chance for me getting Dylan as I’ll finish more than 300 coins short. Oh well, I guess I won’t be able to stash another character in Tan Lines to never be used again. 😛

  2. Phase 4 of this pretty well summed up what gets me annoyed with this game. Having such a large currency requirement while simultaneously giving less ways to collect is not cool. Even the one way left to get coins was offset by the options requiring currency i couldn’t create until I finished collecting for a character costume. Combine that with the terrible drops for cargo pants and tax dollars and I am nowhere close to unlocking the last character despite playing regularly. They will have to sell me on their next event, for now the plan is to work on collecting my last 100 blue bucks for the evil monkey.

  3. Before this event, I hadn’t even opened the game app in months (except momentarily to make random notifications go away), and hadn’t played through an event in over a year.

But as I had over 3500 clams saved up from watching daily videos, Jesus clams, etc., I decided to play this event through as “premium.” I spent all but ~120 clams. And it was the first event since the game’s first year where I was able to unlock everything at a leisurely pace and even finished up days early. I even finished all the character quest lines yesterday. And I will likely end up with 320 bud coins left over and nothing to spend them on, unless I want to buy extra “Paper Pushers” decos. In short, it was actually a joy to play this event–and that’s the first time I’ve been able to say that about this game in YEARS.

I get that TinyCo wants to make money, so they’ve tiered the difficulty to make it so if people want to get everything in an event, they have to shell out the clams. But if I’d actually bought all those clams instead of collecting them for four years, this event would’ve cost me $100. Who the heck can afford $100 per event nowadays?

In the early days of the game, my husband and I both played, and would happily buy maybe $5 or $10 worth of clams to get a premium character we wanted from an event. But now it’s clear that this game prioritizes people who have tons of disposable income, and forgets everyone else. My husband abandoned the game long ago. I only stuck with it because I wanted to get all my characters maxed out (I’m still peeved about the three dinosaur characters I can’t max out because their XP was tied to an event-exclusive system). While it’s really cool that you can get 7 clams a day from watching videos, the only way to make an event not be a hair-pullingly frustrating experience is to save up clams for years and spend them all on one event you actually care about.

I know I’m not a game developer or anything, but it seems to me if they want people to stick around and not give up in frustration, they’d make things a bit easier to get. Sure, have the cool premium characters that people have to buy with clams. But maybe don’t make clam-spending essential for event completion?

    • Well said. Couldn’t agree with you more. I spent around 500 clams I’ve been saving up for ages. I’d guess I’m about 3 days off getting Dylan. It was over 1800 clams to rush him which I don’t have and won’t buy. I gave up buying clams a long time ago. (Player since day 1 of launch). I should have saved those clams for the upcoming multiverse event. 🤬. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  4. So I will *barely* be able to finish this event, I mean literally minutes to spare with Dylan’s 10-hour (!!) task needed for the last event quest. And this is coming into this week with enough bud coins saved up from last week to get the first few buildings right away. There was a combined problem of cookies / tax dollars (I feel like the tiers should have been knocked down 1, so 4 would be needed for tier 2 rather than tier 1) and the crops, as there just were too many bongs needed for coins.

So I will have been able to finish this, barely, having missed very few collection times, and this is with going into the last week with an enormous lead. I feel like this was balanced incorrectly, basically ignoring the fact that there weren’t almanac budcoin bonuses this week.

6 spike cuffs in about 7 hours from now (1pm gmt) will take me to 416 (4 short which I’ll pay for with clams) which’ll give 1 chance to get the university drop.
This event needs a 12 hr extension. Badly

the amount of items required for Dylan vs the actual time we have is very ridiculous

  8. First event in a long time that I will not get all the characters freemium. I am just 17 bud coins shy of getting Highsterdam building so only need the two angry musics for Dylan. Cutting it so close, highly doubtful I will get him. Sigh. The last two events I completed everything two days before each event ended.

  9. The event isn’t ruined or a failure just because it’s hard to complete. An event where we could complete one task and collect every prize or character would be boring as heck. I’m not going to be able to get Dylan but that doesn’t really matter because for the most part this event was good.

  11. Getting Dylan is pretty much impossible now. Need to find another 300-ish Bud Coins in the next 24 hours. That is not happening. So close yet so far from completing my first major Event. Could not have done any more to complete this.

  12. 420 clams! I had no idea. I’ve been working hard to get him, but no way I’ll ever get 420 coins in the time left. Or even come close. I’m guessing less than 5% of us will unlock him.

  13. The last building needed for Dylan is Highsterdam University which drops angry music. I think 420 Bud Coins is way too high a price when the last week we don’t have the weekly challenges to help with Bud Coins. I don’t think I’ll be able to get him without spending clams. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

  14. Really, a day to go and I still need 328 Bud Coins just to unlock the University. That doesn’t even include the time for it two drop items twice. The rate of getting Bud Coins this week has dropped significantly from the previous weeks. It all depends upon the cookies dropped by the elf and he takes forever to acquire tax dollars to battle.

On top of this, they drop the event buildings to purchase for another total of 375 bud coins. This is just beyond ridiculous. This event was going ok until the current week…….good thing I haven’t spent any clams on it whatsoever!!

I agree. But just incase you get close, you only need run buildings task once to get the 2 items as it’s a 2x always drop. But I doubt many will get him.

      • How long is the Highsterdam University “task”? And does anyone know how much it costs to “rush” it? I can either rush a task to get Bribe money at a cost of 8 Clams, or rush the building task, if it is cheaper. I just need the final bribe to get the cookies for the University, in order to get Dylan.

It’s a 4hr task, shows 8 Clams rush but I’ve already unlocked Dylan so don’t know if rush cost is higher with the drops, sorry.

          • I rushed the task for Joe to drop the bribe money, bribed Jeff Sessions (AKA The Elf) :-), and bought the University. The rush cost is the same (8 Clams), but I can wait 3 hours before doing that, to bring that down to 2 Clams, and get Dylan just before the even ends. I don’t care about the Main Questline as much as getting the character for a relatively low cost.

      • Any idea how much it would cost to rush the 4 hr collection for the angry music? I have everything else for the unlock and will have 400 of 420 bud coins in a couple hours. Would cost 80 clams to get the building and if the speed up to collect isn’t ridiculous it might make it worth it. But it would be nice to have an idea before I buy more clams. Ty

It’s a 4hr drop, and 8 Clams speed 4hr tasks usually, but I can’t check if the drops change that as I’ve already unlocked Dylan.

          Like

    • Even if you get the building and it drops the music, the real problem is the drop rate on the cargo pants is garbage! That’s the real problem in trying to unlock him.

      Like

      • Maybe for you, but that’s the problem with “Chance” drops. They can be very different for each player. 😐 I have everything but the Angry Music. I think I got the pants completed yesterday.

  15. Struggled getting into Week 4 due to rubbish drops on DEA clipboards and beer for Tracy.
Got into Week 4 yesterday. Managed to buy all but 1 building through building up coins so have caught up massively for Brians outfit and might even have him unlocked inside of 2 days.

I’m not even bothered about Dylan though so once Brian is unlocked this event is over for me.

With 36 hours to go, I need 417 coins, so I guess it’s time to throw in the towel and clean up all the random tasks out there. After a string of successful events, that’s two majors in a row that I’m nowhere close to getting the last character. C’est la vie…

  17. It’s not surprising to see so few people have unlocked Jake. Without spending money it is virtually impossible to unlock him without an insane amount luck. I pretty much had all 3 characters getting tax dollars every 4 hours (something you shouldn’t have to do if TinyCo gave a damn about their players sleep schedules), and due to the fact that they didn’t make the dollars a 100% drop, there’s no way I’m going to have enough cookies to unlock that last building in time. The lack of a week 4 almanac really didn’t help there either. I quit this game back during the comicon event because of crap like this. I came back to give it another shot to see if it got any better. Once again, suckered into buying some $5 characters during the event that offer zero actual assistance within the event. Guess I’ll know in about 36 hours whether or not I’m deleting this app again.

  18. Getting Daryl is going to be impossible without spending clams. This is becoming a trend. Long events the first 3 weeks are ok and as long as you play often you can manage to keep up and unlock characters, but hit week 4 and the fun level drops right down because they make it too difficult.

  19. I don’t think unlocking the Dylan guy will be possible for me. I need 8 spike cuffs which I calculate will require at least 33 “tax dollars”. I have 3, so I need 30 more. With 3 characters going every 4 hours, it will require at least 40 hours and that’s without sleeping. There are currently 43 hours left in the event, so it’s not looking likely.

    Like

    • Yeah, it’s definitely not happening. There’s exactly 12 hours until the event ends, and I’ll be asleep for the last 6 of those… so I have 6 hours to get 291 coins to buy the university, and 4 spike cuffs. The latter requires another 15 tax dollars which will take at least 21.3 hours, assuming perfect drops. The buyout is 1840 clams, which is just stupid. I would like to say I’m upset about it, but it’s been a boring event from start to finish with 90% of the items going into storage.

  20. 8 for 15 attempts at tax dollars today. 53% drop rate. That is not common. It’s been like that the whole week so far. I’ve gotten everything for Dylan except for 7 Spike Cuffs and the 2 Angry Musics and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get him. This has really ruined the end of an event I was actually enjoying.
