A quick FYI… I am already in discussions with TinyCo on my thoughts to this portion. To me, 2 mins may not be enough time. Will update with any changes. 😉
UPDATE 3pm EST: Changes to the PDA Couples below!!
Update 6:40om EST: TinyCo has once again listened to your feedback! They’ve now made it easier to tell which couple is which, with some new animation! Here’s a look at what you’ll see:
Fighting couples = a cloud of broken purple hearts will be animating above their heads
Enamored couples = a cloud of red full hearts will be animation above their heads
Another great job by TinyCo at listening to YOUR feedback!
Images of what each look like are below
Hey there Minions!
Love is in the air now, or is it? Many of you are confused on the Love/Hate relationship of the couples going on in the game, so figured we better offer a lil extra breakdown of how it all works.
Once you get the storyline going for the Romancing the Clam Event, you will be told to check out a few different areas of the game. One of those is the Affection Meter, but how does this work?
WHAT IS THE AFFECTION METER?
Throughout the Event, you will have optional prizes you can earn just by clearing the Couples that appear in your game. Just be careful which Couple you tap. You will collect a specific type of heart from these PDA Couples to help you earn Prizes. The Prize YOU win will depend on whether you gain all LOVE Hearts or HATE Hearts.
WHERE IS THE AFFECTION METER?
The Affection Meter Icon is on the lower right side of your screen. Tapping on the Icon will bring you to the Event Main Menu.
In the Main Menu, the Affection Meter will be listed under the Heart Tab.![]()
There is also ANOTHER shortcut to it, in your Event Area… Cupid’s Note Writing section with the Big Heart behind him.
This is where you can see WHO currently has a prize option (Quagmire and Peter will start it off.) And you will also see WHAT prizes are available for that Character.
Now comes the catch, YOU will need to decide… do you want to go for Hate or do you want to go for Love? You will need to stick with this choice until you collect all the Hearts needed for that Prize for the Character. Once complete, you can start again.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TO PICK?
This will all be YOUR choice. Look at the Prizes offered for each side of Love or Hate and decide what one you want to go for first. Just remember, the couples only spawn every 4hrs and you only have 2 minutes to clear the right one.
You will now have 3 Minutes to locate and tap and 3 hrs between spawns.
WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE MY CHOICE OR WANT TO DO IT AGAIN?
Don’t worry, if you change your mind you can just switch to collecting for the opposite side. Basically collecting a Love Heart will cancel out a Hate heart and vice versa, so you can switch that way. Also, once you complete the first Prize collection the Affection Meter will reset and you can start a new collection for another Prize.
HOW DO I KNOW WHEN THE COUPLES ARRIVE?
If you watch your game closely, within a few moments of entering the game you will see that **POOF** of smoke as the PDA Couples spawn on any roads in your town. You will also see a quick pop up from Peter warning you they are there.
This is where having a VERY small amount of road will come in handy for you. Due to they spawn on any roads, they can be scattered and may take you time to find them. So if possible, keep your roads to a minimum and not hidden behind any tall buildings. Try to make it as easy on yourself as possible to find the couples.
This has been updated so that 8 of each couple will now spawn every 3hrs.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO FIND THE COUPLES I NEED?
Once they have spawned, you will notice a timer icon at the bottom right corner of your game counting down.
Once that timer hits zero, ALL Couples will disappear and Peter will let you know they are gone. So pay close attention, focus on finding YOUR couple and clearing them before the timer runs down. (My game there are usually 6 of each couple.)
You will now have to wait 4 hrs for them to return.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT COUPLE TO TAP ON?
This one will take a quick glance at each couple to find out WHO you need to tap on. There is a very easy tell tell sign on each Couple.
LOVE: As you watch the couples wander around with the girl latched on to the guy, they will come to a point and stop. A LOVE couple will then start to make out even more as the guy kicks up one leg and they rock back and forth a few times. THIS IS A LOVE COUPLE. Tapping on this Couple will give you a Love Heart.
Update: Love couple now with the new hearts…
HATE: As you watch the Couples wander around with the girl latched on to the guy, they will come to a point and stop. A HATE couple, the girl will start arguing with the guy, reach her arm way back, then slap him so hard it literally puts a red hand print on his face. THIS IS A HATE COUPLE. Tapping on this couple will give you a Hate Heart.
Update: Hate couple now with the broken hearts
Now be REALLY careful, tapping on the WRONG Couple will give you the wrong heart and cancel out one you already earned. (Again, I usually get 6 of each this has been changed to 8 of each couple now… so once I found all the specific ones I am gathering I just let the timer run down.)
HOW DO I KEEP TRACK OF MY HEARTS?
You will need 15 Hearts total for the first Prize. The game will help you keep track of where you are. The Affection Meter Icon at the bottom of the screen will show you which way your Meter is filling up. Towards LOVE or towards HATE.
You can use the same methods above to also go back to the Main Menu Affection Meter to see your EXACT total across the top of how many you have so far.
WHAT ARE THE SPAWN RATES?
This has just been adjusted by TinyCo. You will now get 8 of each couple (16 total) spawning in your town every 3 hrs. You will have 3 minutes to locate the ones you want and tap them to get the Hearts.
Short story long… Watch the couples closely. Leg kicking up with rocking back and forth = LOVE. Lady yelling and smacking her lover hard= HATE. Once you got that figured out, you can tap them at any time to get that Heart.
What do you think of this set up so far? Does this help to make a lot more sense of it all? Are you going for Love or Hate? Won any of the Prizes yet? Let us know if you have any other questions/concerns on this one.

Second prize is at 50 hearts. It resets each time…so you have to earn 15, it’ll go back to 0. Then you have to earn an additional 50.

Hey FGA admins (*SO* glad that acronym isn’t horrible).
I’ve collected both PDA prizes for this first phase, and have been practicing my love/hate tapping. I’ve noticed that if my hearts get’s up to around 50 the meter resets back to zero. Any idea if this is because the next prizes aren’t available yet (and they don’t want an unfair head-start) or a glitch? Thanks!

I actual prefer the affection meter to the bombing in previous events. It would be nice if you could somehow “tag” a couple once you have identified them so you don’t end up following the same couple more than once.

So easy after the update, although a bit frustrating waiting for them to stop. What are people doing once they have the two prizes? We don’t know what the third options are so if I collect loads of hearts I could find that the broken hearts are actually better? Better not to collect anything or gamble one way or the other?

I have gotten both the prizes cause I eliminated most of my roads but a completely visable strip but I am still collecting love hearts but I wish I knew what the future prizes were so I know if that is what I want. I like getting prepped but I don’t wanna get stuck with a prize I don’t want.

So, I’m thinking that this is a Valentine’s Day event, so most likely the Love prizes will be better choice every time.
With that in mind, I’ve started earning Love in preparation for next week. But I’ve gotten pretty good at it now and am averaging 5-6 Love every 3 hours. By Thursday I expect that I will be sitting at around 160 Love points.
So the question is…when you earn a prize, does it deduct from your points or is it just resetting back to 0. So, if the 3rd prize needs 75 Love/Hate and you have 100. Will it give you the prize immediately and then drop you back to 0? Or will it reduce your Love/Hate to 25 and continue from there?
LikeLike
As stated in the post…it resets

But what if you have all of the currently available prizes… does it reset when a new prize becomes available? Otherwise we may have lots of hearts in ‘the wrong direction’ when the third prize is eventually launched and have to start from say minus 100
LikeLike
As it hasn’t launched, I can’t answer that. I just know when one is complete it resets for the next one. That way if you wanna switch from one to the other you don’t have to cancel them out.

Even with three minutes, this is still a bit too difficult. They walk for WAY too long before they stop, and if you’re like me and have a fully realized Quahog, half the time they are stopping behind a building.

Hi Bunny, you might want to clarify some of the text in your post on the love/hate meter. I read the below text taken from your post as once you collect a particular prize line you can start again from the beginning for the second. As a result, I went for the hot tub because I had more puple hearts thinking I can loop back and start again collect the others.
…Now comes the catch, YOU will need to decide… do you want to go for Hate or do you want to go for Love? You will need to stick with this choice until you collect all the Hearts needed for that Prize for the Character. ONCE COMPLETE, YOU CAN START AGAIN.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TO PICK?
This will all be YOUR choice. Look at the Prizes offered for each side of Love or Hate and DECIDE WHAT ONE YOU WANT TO GO FOR FIRST.
LikeLike
Not sure how this is confusing.
Once you’ve completed collection for the first Prize YOU chose aka Quagmire’s… it resets and you collect for the next Prize YOU Choose aka Peter’s. You don’t have to do both Love or both Hate. It is YOUR choice how you proceed. You can do Hate on Quagmire and Love on Peter. So you don’t have to stick with only one side. YOU pick each Characters Prize. Love or Hate.
If you don’t like the Hate prize but had been collecting Hate hearts, you can change that by collecting Love hearts and cancelling out the Hate hearts. So at any time while collecting YOU can switch to the other Prize before completing that Characters Prize collection.

TOP TIP: I tapped on enough “love” couples and placed the building. But since I still had one “love couple” and eight “hate couples” left in my town, I switched to collecting all EIGHT “hate couples” instead of just ONE “love couple”.
That should give people a little head start for the next item if they don’t mind which type of couple they are collecting.

I have only “1” block of streets, so it’s easy to tap all the couples, the timer is not a problem. But I’ve realized that I can only tap a maximum of 12 couples. After I tap the 12th couple, all the rest of them disappear. It’s happened 3 times already. Is it supposed to be like this?

Are you getting them around the same time the timer runs down? If not, it may also be due to you got them all, so there is no reason to get any more as they will cancel out all your work you just did due to only the opposite are left.

While the addition of the little hearts over the couples is nice, the problem is they are LITTLE hearts! I wonder if while designing the game on a computer monitor, TinyCo has forgotten these are played on smartphones and other mobile devices. Not everyone is playing on a tablet, so trying to see those things is very hard unless you zoom in. And, if you zoom in, you can only track one, possibly two couples at a time. By the time they stop walking around and decide if they want to get freaky or not, you lose a lot of time. Also, they are passing behind buildings and decorations, so depending on your layout you might lose them or switch them up.
I personally think the timer needs to be extended to about ten minutes. That way, you can follow each couple to see if they are what you want. Also, it is a given you will end up following couples more than once as you search for the hearts you want.
I applaud TinyCo for trying something new, and the fact they have already updated the game mechanic once. I just feel it needs a little more tweaking.

Myself, I am playing on a phone as well as an iPod. I can see them fine. I honestly think it will also factor in greatly how “busy” your town is. If your roads are surrounded with buildings and decorations, it will be more difficult to see the animation of hearts. We heard this during the Candy Time event. It’s why I try to keep the strips of road I have in more open areas. So I can visually see better. If you are having a hard time seeing the hearts, then watch for the other signs instead… the hopping on one leg and the girl slapping him.

That is really the most annoying issue, they should pull of the animation as soon they stopped and stop wasting my time

The animation hits the moment they enter the game. So if you are watching… you can usually spot within the first few seconds of spawning, what couples are hate and what ones are love.

Attention everyone with troubles on the couples and locating throughout your massive towns. All you have to do is blow away ALL of your streets. Then make a parking lot area roughly 6 street squares by 6 street squares. When they re spawn they stay in the parking lot and you can view them all at once. I just did it myself and cleared all 8 I was looking for in less than a minute. Just make your parking lot far enough away from any completion bubbles and you should be good. I hope this helps everyone including Alissa and Bunny on getting caught up on some of the questions in the inbox.

wow lots of hate for the couples mechanic. I’m quite enjoying it, it’s a nice change from the humdrum repetition of the last few events.
As we can’t preview the rewards, you have to guess the value of the prize. In Quagmires run, I chose hate on my free game, and love on my pay game. Glad I did, as the hate prize was a lame decoration, and the love prize gives out cards and xp.
I’ve gotten Peter’s reward wrapped up too now, so I’m in limbo. I’m staying at 0 love till the new phase opens up.

Hmmmmmm… Having to wait until a couple stops to see what they are; got 4 hearts. Assuming you can actually play every 3 hours, say 24 hearts/day. Two days to get the second prize at 50 hearts. Sorry you feel that way. It will depend on the surroundings of the roads on how well you see any animation. Too busy and those hearts may just blend into the buildings and deco. Try if you can to watch for the other signs instead. The hopping on one leg and slap. The hearts appear then anyway.

Think this feature a great idea poorly executed. Floating hearts make it easier but you still can’t tell until they’ve stopped which often means they’re hiding behind buildings etc when love/hate is revealed. If it was a choice between a 3 minute timer where they stop to show and a 2 minute where they are always showing, I would pick the latter.

I think the fix is awful….It takes 30 seconds for each couple to tell you via hearts whether they are love or hate. If you follow them then it averages 20-30 seconds that means you only get 6-8 chances in 3 minutes. 50% will be the affection you dont want. It means about 3-4 hearts every 4 hours. No one can play every four hours I figure about 2 days average to complete one provided you dont accidentally hit the wrong affection which I have been doing each time so I am getting on 2-3 hearts a session. SUCKS!!!!
Do they even test these new ideas with game players?

Still way too short time. When you get back to your game, all these completion bubbles tend to get in the way, sometimes resulting in even level-up screens, eating away valuable time. And then these couples seem to walk around so long before being able to tell them apart. Single-handedly my personal most-disliked game mechanic ever.

Marc, double up your roads to widened but shorter corridor to give space for your alternate wanderers to roam. It will give you a clearer vantage point to view your lovers. But don’t make it so long that you have slide back and forth. Something in the programming causes it to skip ahead too far and you lose your trajectory.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Having to blow up your town design to be accommodate a game mechanic is just plain stupid. Unless TinyCo thinks that it’s not worth the time and effort to create something looking nice and like an actual town where people would live.
I’m more or less fine with them wandering around and do what they do but it’s terrible in combination when you come back to your game and have plenty of bubbles to clear. If the couple expiration timer wasn’t so short, I could clear everything and then focus on them without being distracted.

I was so hoping with the resetting of the heart collection it would open up the alternate choice. Apparently, it isn’t geared to that type of activity. Though I can see why. If moving to the next prize requires finishing the first gift, then you’d have to finish both sides and as we get higher up the requirements will be higher, thus making it twice as difficult to get to the next prize opening.
Might be easy for the now, but I can see a LOT of complaints if they decide to allow us to collect both sides.
