Note From Bunny: This post was brought to you by the generous help of one of our Addicts Helpers! Thanks!!
In this lil game of ours, it is easy to get lost and so focused into collecting items or unlocking characters that we tend to forget the lil things that make the game what it is. Like Where the HELL did these items come from and why are they in our games?
Well I am here to do just that for you. Let’s take a look at the Family Guy Series and find out just Where The HELL Did That Come From?

In this post, I will be covering the origin of some of the costumes brought into our little games with the Raid to the North Pole (Christmas 2015) event, including Nutcracker Stewie, Veteran Herbert, Secret Spy Brian and Fighter Pilot Quagmire. Why are they in our games? When did they show up in the Family Guy series? When did Brian become a secret spy? Let’s take a look at the TV episodes to find out.
Nutcracker Stewie
Season 9, Episode 7: Road to the North Pole
As Lotty mentioned in her Christmas speculations (which you can read HERE), the very first image of the opening credits shows Nutcracker Stewie (although the version in our games is moustache-less).

Veteran Herbert
Season 6, Episode 6: Padre de Familia
Veteran Herbert makes a quick appearance towards the beginning of this episode. The Griffins are attending the Quahog Veteran’s Day Celebration, and after seeing the parade, Peter is stopped by a moving rendition of “God Bless the USA”, sung by Veteran Herbert and a group of backing singers…

But Veteran Herbert is probably more memorable from his appearance in…
Season 9, Episode 11: German Guy
Peter tries to find a new hobby for Chris, leading them to unsuccessfully try philateling (stamp collecting); “Now this is a loaded handgun, and what we’re gonna do now is kill ourselves because this is horrible.” “Couldn’t we just stop philateling?” “Too late. [Gunshot]”.
After Peter leaves Chris outside The Clam while he gets drunk, Chris notices the Quahog Puppet Store on the other side of the street. With the help of the elderly German shop owner, Franz Gutentag, he becomes interested in puppetry; Mr Gutentag even makes a Chris puppet: “My name is Chris, and I like candy and jumping and colourful birds!” “Wow! What else do I like?” “You like the pop singing of today.” Cue Franz singing “Der Kommissar” by Falco and some of the funniest puppetry in existence. “Yay! That was the Germanest thing I’ve ever seen!” (If you haven’t seen it, watch it; it’s so German.)

However, when Herbert finds out that Chris and Franz are friends, he tells Lois and Peter that Franz is actually a Nazi, Franz Schlechtnacht, who used to be a SS guard in the concentration camp that Herbert was sent to during World War II. “He made me sort the camp recyclables, but some of those bottles still had a little bit of soda in them. It would spill out on my hands and make them kind of sticky. Dear God, how my hands would get kinda sticky! Aaaah! Aaaah!”

When Chris visits Franz’s house, Herbert tries to stop him, but Chris doesn’t believe that Franz could be a Nazi, so he ignores Herbert and goes inside. Soon after, Peter visits Franz to invite him round for dinner – but while Chris is searching for the bathroom (marked “gluckmachnichtenmechwerchtichlieber”), he accidentally finds a room of Nazi memorabilia (marked “keineentranzmitplatzmunchen”); as a result, Franz holds Peter and Chris hostage in the basement.
Eventually, Chris catches Herbert’s attention from a small window, who vows to help. Changing into his military uniform, Herbert bursts into Franz’s house, leading into an epic fight that can’t be done justice in words. In short, it’s four minutes of mostly slow, shaky movements; Franz falls asleep; they pause to take pills; Franz has trouble getting off the couch; and eventually Herbert wins. All set to dramatic music.

Secret Spy Brian
Season 8, Episode 3: Spies Reminiscent of Us
Peter starts using Cleveland’s old house to go to the toilet, until it’s rented by Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase. After Brian and Stewie start investigating, they arrive at the Deep Underground Military Protection Facility, D.U.M.P.F. (with a silent F), under Cleveland’s house, where it’s revealed that Aykroyd and Chase are actually working as government spies – since “Spies Like Us” was Ronald Reagan’s favourite movie.
They explain that they’re searching for a KGB sleeper agent in Quahog, who is activated by saying the phrase “Gosh, that Italian family at the next table sure is quiet.” Brian and Stewie decide to help Dan and Chevy, and later go to the mayor’s office, where it turns out Mayor West is the sleeper agent, after they accidentally trigger him. They follow him to Russia, where everyone is a bear on a unicycle, making it hard for them to avoid being captured (“Hey, they’re not bears on unicycles!”).

The group are taken to see Putin, who offers to help them find Mayor West to avoid the political embarrassment of the reactivation of a Cold War sleeper spy. Later in the episode, the group track down Mayor West through snowy Russian mountains, wearing thick jackets – including Brian’s Secret Spy costume.

After Mayor West launches a nuclear missile against the US (and then turns back to normal), Dan saves everyone by reprogramming the missile – although the fuselage still caused some damage to Cleveland’s house… and bathtub…

Fighter Pilot Quagmire
Season 5, Episode 2: Mother Tucker
The Griffins are at the 15th Annual Airshow, and after the initial disappointment of not seeing a plane crash (although a pilot was stabbed after stepping out of the plane), Quagmire’s plane (“The French Tickler”) makes an appearance, as does Quagmire’s Fighter Pilot costume (or something similar, anyway). He performs loop-de-loops before smashing into billboards as only Quagmire would – needing some “help” from the Jack Daniel’s billboard to smash through the Greta Van Sustren billboard…

There you have it, a rundown of where some of the Raid to the North Pole costumes came from.
What do you think of the episodes? Did you recognize where these costumes came from? Any appearances that I’ve missed or would be more accurate (I’m sure there must be)? Which costumes did you manage to unlock? Did you buy Nutcracker Stewie? Enjoy the event overall? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
