Peter’s Prehistoric Park Tips: Walking with Dinosaurs

Note from Lotty: Special shout out to Russian Tigger for writing this post! Thank you!
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away….. CUT….. oops sorry wrong franchise, let me try that again. A long time ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and Quahog was nothing but a figment in the imagination of a T-Rex’s tiny brain, life was simpler, no mobile games, no extra rare drops, no impossible dreams, I mean quests. Yes back then being chased by a raptor was considered the worst that could happen but now it’s not being able to unlock said Raptor, as our minds and life’s have been taken over by the latest event.

But moving on, and I know this is something many are struggling to do this event, I thought I would share my thoughts so far. Now before I start my musings I should point out that I played this event freemium as the premium items didn’t excite me. I also confess my chronically bad sleeping pattern allows me to play the game a bit more, yes the insomnia that in my day to day life is my worst enemy becomes my best friend when Quest for Stuff events hit.

So the event started with a bang, as an event that was hinted at over 2 years ago in the beta version of the game suddenly came back to life and turned our Quahogs into a crazy Jurassic Park. New playable character dinosaurs, character skins and odd choice premium characters such as Ave Ventura became available to us in the first few phases.

Being dinosaur crazy since a child this event ticks all the boxes for me but how am I doing working through the event, well I’m quite happy with my progress, as of now I’m sitting having completed the Phase 3 main Questline impatiently waiting for the final phase to drop. On my journey through the phases I’ve unlocked Dino Tamer Peter, Cavewoman Lois, Raptor, Brontosaurs and a Stegosaurus. Not a bad haul for not a clam spent, not even on speeding up tasks.

I’m still working on Sabre Toothed Brian but as he isn’t need for the Save the ‘Saurs Questline I’m not rushing him, I only need 4 ivory and 3 Animal Rights Pin and he will be mine, sure they will drop before the end of the event.

But reading the comments I’m noticing others who play freemium aren’t progressing and are constantly asking for tips, so I thought I’d try help you to get as far through the event as possibly without spending clams. Firstly don’t think you can have it all, try to play with the wonder what I will end up with mindset, it makes the game more fun and less of a grind.

Secondly if your priority, like me, is to unlock all the dinosaurs, there are 4 eggs, 4 phases, so obviously a new dinosaur is available to unlock each phase. Getting these will see you having to move through the main Questlines each phase, as you can only move on to the next phase content by completing these.

The main Questlines you need to complete to reach the final phase are Fossil Fueled, Playing with Dino Mite and Save the ‘Saurs. These are the keys to unlocking the next lot of goodies, so if it’s Dinosaurs you want prioritise these and gathering items, completing tasks to unlock the dinosaurs. The Questlines work well in tandem with this in my opinion. This is an area TinyCo have improved the last few events.

Now to get through these Questlines you will need unlock a dinosaur and buildings from the welcome centre. Sometimes players go crazy and starting buying buildings before they know which are necessary and when resources are scarce as in this event that can be a mistake many never recover from, so try to hold back and not jump in spending resources the minute you have enough for something as it may only drop in game cash and be useless for the event. Look at the characters drops, and play the Questline only purchasing what you need.

To help those behind these are the only buildings from the Welcome Centre that are needed to complete the main Questlines.

Fossil Fueled

Bamboo Love Shack
Raptor Training Pen
Prehistoric Plant Place

(You also need unlock the Raptor & Dino Tamer Peter to complete Questline)

Playing with Dino Mite

Big Bone Playground
Dino Egg Incubator
Mauisaurus Water Show
Jungle Watchtower

(You also need to unlock Brontosaurus and its training pen to complete Questline – the training pen will appear at Part 5 of Questline – NOTE YOU DO NOT NEED CAVEWOMAN LOIS TO MOVE ON)

Save the ‘Saurs

Stegosaurus Training Centre
Forbidden Tiki Car

(You also need unlock Stegosaurus to complete Questline – NOTE YOU DON’T NEED SABRE TOOTHED BRIAN TO MOVE ON)

So if you only want the dinosaurs, above is what you need to do to have them all appear for you to work on unlocking them. I’m not going cover items for each dinosaur needed as you can find this info in the Phase posts, this is just about getting people through the phases as resource cheap as possible. Obviously you will need resources for the final phase but once you reach the end of this and you have anything leftover you can buy any of the other buildings etc, me I will buy the Prehistoric path blueprint as I will want it for design reasons but I will wait until last day just in case those resources are needed elsewhere.

Thirdly if you are trying to get the skins as well as the dinosaurs, note as above the only one you MUST have is Dino Trainer Peter, Cavewoman Lois and Sabre Tooth Brian are optional as not having them won’t halt your progress.

So buildings with drops for characters skins are…

Dino Tamer Peter

Tarred for Life – I didn’t need this, got all the gooey fossil from character drops.

Cavewoman Lois

Skullosaurus Training Pen
Dino Egg Incubator

Sabre Toothed Brain

Dino Garage
Dino Museum
The Dino Plunge

Note the above all drop same item, wool, all have the same task length time for drops, but vary in cost. I only bought the cheapest Dino Garage and have all the wool I needed.

T-Rex Tunnel
Dino Mite Mini Market

Note the above all drop animal rights pin, all have same task length time for drops but vary in cost. I only bought the cheapest T-Rex Tunnel, but only had 2 of the 7 needed as its extra rare, I therefore bought the Dino Mite Mini Market to help, but if you’re very low on resources the T-Rex Tunnel may drop enough in time, but I had the excess green Amber sitting so used it for the Market.

So this gives you an idea what you need if you want the new skins.

Fourth I need to mention the weekly challenges, if you desperately want to stay freemium, unlock the dinosaurs and new skins then don’t get tied up in these. They are notoriously hard for freemiums as they depend on your luck when they drop into your game. The only way you will get these freemium is if you can complete them in tandem with your other game play. Diverting time and resources to these is not worth it if you want to unlock the other stuff, all the prizes including the grand prize are decorations. And TinyCo now reveal the Grand Prize, so we all know what it is before we start on the challenges. Before when players didn’t know what it was their was panic it could be a character but that’s never been the case, always an animated decoration. Now I have competed the first three weeks, but it was luck as they dropped at perfect time for me. But if the fourth doesn’t drop kindly I won’t spend any clams to complete the set for the grand prize, an animated decoration is just not worth clam spend to me. So if you’re behind, ignore these, unless you really, really, really must have the grand prize.

So that’s my tips and tricks to try help some of you get to the final phase, or getting as much unlocked as your in game time allows. I hope it helps as to date I’m loving the event and want fellow addicts to have fun and finish up with as much Prehistoric goodies as possible.

I’d love to hear any other players tips and tricks, and where you are, what you want most and of course your general thoughts on the event. Until then I’m off to walk my dinosaur.

  1. I have 220 clams ..

spending 210 for Patches was a bit steep , esp. that I really really want Consuela and working towards it (no .. no .. noooo)

i ended up not buying patches 😦 …… or Ace Ventura for that matter …

    i also couldn’t get Cesar but meh .. couldn’t care less ..

got everything else *peter , lois , brain , the 4 dinos* ..

there was one or two decos which i wanted to get with my remaining claws but the event ended while i was sleeping … but it’s ok …

    • I really hope it doesnt happen like that with the training manuals in my game lol I only have 3 shots before the event ends to try and get the manuals and thats all I need for Ceasar without spending anu clams but Ill prolly bite the bullet and have to end up spending clams for him….Great event otherwise real happy I stocked up on clams before the event bc without them I prolly would not be as far as I am and inlicked all dinos and costumes/characters minus Ceasar…Good Luck everyone in the final stages….

  5. Not getting green amber drops at all for about 2 days…. impossible to move along

  6. I am just going to focus on claws until the end and hope the other drops cooperate as I only have a few clams.
Buying the four things I didn’t have from the Ice Age mystery box has paid off – I used the tiger to clear dinosaurs so my dinosaurs could do other things and the one building has dropped almost all my dog sweaters, and since I may not get sabre-tooth Brian the Griffin house skin is dropping pterodactyl food – all in all a good purchase considering the tiger can go to tan lines.

  8. After really struggling with the Peter skin and the Brontosaur, I never recovered from that. Only got to phase three on Saturday, which will make it pretty much impossible to get to phase 4 before the event ends. I am used to being a couple of days behind, but this is just to hard…

    • It does seem to be harder all the time, almost becoming unreasonable. I was doing fine for the first three weeks, following main quest line, paying a few clams here and there to finish tasks early. Week four has been brutal, I started on time, but am unable to move along without saber tooth Brian, neither of the buildings drop the pins. Annoying!!

During the third week i decided to ignore brian (first because i dont like him, second bexause it was too hard to unlock, considering that he is not a new character. So now i have taken as soon as posssible the pterodatyl and i’m near to gain cesar. So goood!

  12. Good info

My stegosaurus has, so far, taken 4 days to get from level 2 to 4, actually, not even 4 yet, which is frustrating as I thought I might get to level 4 almost on time and now I think I may struggle with the pterodactyl

    Like

    • I was not able to start the 4th phase until late Sunday night, all because the failure of the Stegosaurus to level up after back to back training for 4 days. I have been trying non stop to obtain the drops for the Pterodactyl, and I have not had a single drop in 24 hours. I am not a freemium player, and this event has cured me once and for all of the desire to spend another penny on it.

      • I share your frustration, I finally bought the pterodactyl, and it’s training pen, only to find saber tooth Brian or Dino Chris is needed for the training food. Pterodactyl drops were next to impossible to get, so I gave in and paid for the feathers, now I refuse to pay for Brian’s animal rights pins (at least not until the final hour) so, the pterodactyl will be untrained, since I don’t have Dino Chris! I’m ok with freemium content, and don’t get upset about not getting everything, but some of the drop rates in this event seem to be ultra rare or epic, this is extremely aggravating with limited time to work. The game is causing me to feel bummed out, it used to make me smile, now it does so less, too bad.

  14. It’s been posted that if we unlock the dinos before the event ends, we will still be able to level them up. Does that mean they will take on non-event tasks for just ex and $ or will the prehistoric tasks still be available. Will they get their own section on the character page and can we use them in Tan Lines Resort?
I am having a real problem with the pterodactyl. He has rewarded Amber and claws instead of ex for two days now for training. Claws are not even shown as a possible reward. Whatever that this is that’s needed to train him is too precious to waste if I am only gonna get claws; I have over 2,000 that will probably just go away when the event ends.

In this event I think the Pteradactyl’s main aim from training is to drop training manuals for unlocking Cesar.

I’m presuming once event is over the dinosaurs will just become similar to other characters with the tasks they have minus the event item drops.

I think FaceSpace has been put to one side whilst TinyCo worked on fixing glitchess in the game, it’s just not a priority for them. But hopefully once event ends they will be added to be used in Tan Lines. Although I might just keep mine wandering around.

      • Good to know. I have Cesar, so I’ll just keep chugging away to get them leveled up as far as possible. I only have one floor left to fill at the resort and would love to run havoc on the Resort with the Saurs and a Sabertooth as guests once the event is over. LOL

  15. Has anyone bought ace ventura? I think he is voiced by jim Carey but is he worth it? I’m way behind in this event so would be more of a long term thing. Thanks!

    Like

    • Appears to be sound bites from various Jim/Ace movies. Got hm mainly so I could fill that last floor in the Resort.

      Like

    • I bought him because I love the films. He is voiced by Carrey (sound clips from the actual movies), and the things he says are hilarious! Totally worth it!

Just so you know, this is only the second premium character from an event I’ve “purchased” since I started playing back in Jan ’15 (Jack the puppy was the other).

That’s what great about this, hearing others comments about why they buy a particular character. Usually I find it’s because they trigger a happy memory in us, like yourself it reminds you of the films and enjoyment they brought you. I passed on Ace but dropped clams without a thought for Patches due to my childhood love of all things dinosaur.

I play freemium, and it takes me a while to save up clams, so when I spend them it tends to be on characters who are permanently available, due to the possibility of them being used in more than one event. However I was willing to make an exception for Alien because I like the films and I love that it does the Alien screech when you tap it. That it was a big help for me in the Boomsday event was just a bonus. Hopefully Predator, Freddy, Jason and/or Pinhead will come back sometime.

  18. As a freemium player myself, I find this a very useful post. (If only this was written a week or two ago!). As Bunny would say, ‘you cannot get everything’. Once you bear that in mind, you’d be less stressful.

I have just reached phase 4 (whew!), with Peter Dino Tamer, Lois Cavewoman, and 3 dinosaurs unlocked. Not trying for Brian Sabretooth, as I don’t find his long teeth appealing. Totally agree that you have to know your objective then move towards that goal. For example, I decided I wanted all 4 dinosaurs which are released week by week, so I made it a point to completing the main quest lines.

A tip to add: It helps greatly if you know what’s ahead of your quest line, so you can build your ‘required’ buildings first, or level up your dinosaur to certain levels, so you won’t panic once that task is unlocked for completion in the quest line. One toughie for me was to level up my stegosaurus to level 4, which took me 2 days to complete since I keep getting green ambers when all I needed was XP. Frustrating, but that’s part of the game.

One other reason why I wanted to complete the main quest lines as priority is because I did not manage to last until the last phase, as I always got stuck way ahead (first or second phase) in earlier events just because I don’t have a certain character unlocked. It is very challenging for me as I just started playing the game few months ago during the Apocalypse Event. I sometimes get giddy from seeing 20+ tasks waiting for me to complete, both event and non-event related. I am also trying unlock Stewie and completing the event at the same time! Crazy!

Another tip to add: I read in a lot of posts about people not having enough dino claws. I actually have enough. Plentiful from simply getting my characters to produce ambers and clearing the eggs. I do not need to tie them up for side quest lines, since I am targeting only the main quest. For the maths, for each egg cleared, I get 15 claws. I have about 5 characters (Peter, Lois, Chris, Mort, Joe) to generate ambers in 4 hours. On a 12-hour day, I would get 15 ambers, which would give me 225 claws per day. If you clear herpesaurus, you get additional 24 claws each time. As long as you don’t try to get everything, claws drops should be quite adequate.

I am just sitting on the fence on whether to buy Patches, to complete my dinosaurs collection. Its T-Rex! But costs 210 clams. When I have about 260 clams! What do you all think? Should I get T-Rex?

You are doing well for such a new player. And I’m with you in that unless it’s a character skin that I just have to have I will always when playing freemium prioritise unlocking new characters. I did go premium and buy Patches but more to complete my dinosaurs than for anything he does for the event. He fits nicely into the theme of event unlike Ace Ventura or Cesar Milan, they for me would just end up permanently in tan lines never to be seen again, whereas Patches will roam my Quahog, ha.

Good luck unlocking your 4th dinosaur egg.

  21. Sabertooth Brian may not be required for Phase 3 quests, but you will slam into a brick wall come Phase 4 quests (Virtually Extinct questline) if you don’t have him. Don’t be so dismissive of not needing him and letting people think he’s not important to moving on, he most certainly is.

However nothing happens from completing the Phase 4 questline other than satisfaction of finishing the questline, unless I’m mistaken? I’ve not completed the questline, but it’s never provided anything in other events.

This is final phase, Sabre Tooth Brian isn’t needed to access ANY of the final weeks content, he isn’t needed to unlock either Cesar or Pteradyctl so I stand by what I say for those who only want to reach phase 4 characters he is not needed. There is no reward for completing the Questline so he really isn’t important. Also please bare in mind the was written before phase 4 dropped and is to help those who haven’t reached phase 4.

      Like

      • Saber Tooth Brian is going to be needed for Caesar if you aren’t planning on spending clams to get him. Brian is one of the only two characters that drop Pterodactyl food. Which you need to use to train your bird so you can get Caesar’s drops to unlock him.

The stegasorous drops them, so even without Brian you can do Pteradactyl training. I’m doing it just now, more to level him up than for the drops as I am not fussed about getting Cesar. But this post was written to help those who were way behind, many of whom who were asking for help in the comments, most of whom will not have the resources to even think about unlocking the buildings for Cesar unfortunately. Many just wanted help to be able get to phase 4 to compete the dinosaur set, this is what this was written for, it in no way was a guide for those who were up to date and waiting on Phase 4, it was written before Phase 4 dropped, unfortunately there was a delay putting it up on here. I still don’t have Brian, just need one animal rights pin, I could buy him out for 13 clams but I’m doing fine without him and it will probably drop by the end on Thursday. I’ve got all my dinosaurs unlocked, so it’s job done for me for this event.

      • The Virtually Extinct questline IS part of the final week’s content, so I disagree with you there. And you should have made it clearer in your writing that you were only giving notes for up to and including phase 3.

Either way, it doesn’t matter, once this event is done, so am I. There’s no way anyone’s going to finish this event without spending money, it’s a statistical impossibility.

        Have fun, everyone.

I did I said my tips were to help players get through the first 3 Questlines, I made no mention of what would come in the fourth Questline as it hadn’t dropped. And even when it did there was no imperative to complete it unless youre a completist, completing it wasn’t needed for unlocking characters so there was no reason for me to do any tips for this. I unlocked all the free characters and didn’t get through the final Questline. If you feel you need info on what’s coming before it drops this isn’t the site you need. I think you are sadly taking your game frustrations out on fellow players who are trying to help others, and I’m glad my tips helped players who kindly commented there thanks.

    • I see what your saying but it would be Phase 4 and the last week so if you dnt really care about the main questline and want to get whatever dinos, characters, costumes and decos you can then you really don’t need to focus on Brian unless you do want his costume or complete the questline. Thanks everyone for all your tips and tricks its greatly appreciated and without this site I prolly would have gave up a long time ago. Happy Gaming Clamers!!!!!!
