Star Trek 2nd Contact 101: Phaser Battles

Hey there Tribblemakers!

With the reintroduction of the Star Trek Event into the game, I am seeing many of the same questions and concerns being asked that were there the first time around in regards to the Phaser Battles, so I wanted to go over the basic again.

Let’s take a look at the Phaser Battles and what you will encounter when trying to take out Ships & Asteroids.

Let’s start with the basics…

HOW DO I FIND THE PHASER BATTLES?

You will start to see them once you arrive aboard the Enterprise and start earning Photon Torpedoes. You will see the Phaser Battle Icon appear in the lower right corner of your game.

Phaser Battles Icon

When you tap on the icon, you will see the Phaser Battle Screen. There you will see the amount of Torpedoes “You Have”, the “Fire Torpedoes” Button, the pop up info at the bottom of the screen showing “object destroyed” if a hit was successful, and the total amount of “Rewards” you have earned while you have the screen open (as soon as you exit the screen it will collect these items and reset).

HOW DO I GET PHOTON TORPEDOES?

You can earn Photon Torpedoes around the game or purchase them with Clams from the Menu.

HOW DO I HIT A SHIP?

Move the Target around the screen and over a ship so the Target turns from blue to red, then tap on “Fire Torpedoes” to fire at it. You will see the Phaser Beam shoot out at the ship.

Phaser Battle Red Target

HOW MANY HITS DOES EACH SHIP TAKE?

Phaser Battle Ships

In order to completely destroy the multiple items in the Phaser Battles, you have to shoot it a specific amount of times BEFORE it leaves the screen. Here are the required shots for each item.

Borg CubeBorg Cube (moves fast): Takes 3 Shots

Shielded PeterCraftShielded Petercraft (moves REALLY fast): Takes 2 Shots

Romulan WarbirdRomulan Warbird (moves slow): Takes 1 Shot

Big Chunky Asteroid Big Round Asteroid Lil Fast Moving Asteroid Medium Chunky AsteroidAsteroid: Takes 1 Shot

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TAKE A SHOT?

Once in the Phaser Battles screen… get yourself familiar with the pace of the different items. Watch how they pass through the screen. This will come in handy to take one out.

Test areas of the ship that will turn the target from Blue to RED. Just tap the screen on different areas of the ship. Head, Top, Bottom, and Body. This way you will also know BEFORE using all your Torpedoes where you can aim at and target for to get better chances at a hit.

When to take the shot will depend on you, but for me the BEST time to shoot it is while it will be on the screen for the longest time. This is when it travels Diagonally across the screen.

A few other good options are across the center straight from left to right/ right to left. But I personally found that diagonally gave me the most time out of them all. The time it is on the screen is CRITICAL as you will need to take a total of two or three shots for some. This means aim the Target, light it up Red, take the shot… then do it all over again …. this all BEFORE it leaves off the screen.

Aim & Fire!

With the first shot, try to do this as soon as you see it coming into the screen Diagonally from the top to bottom or bottom to top. Tap the Ship/Asteroid to target it. MAKE SURE THE TARGET IS RED! Make only ONE shot to hit it. DO NOT TAP TAP TAP “Fire Torpedoes” or you will waste Torpedoes as it may have moved out of target range by the time the next shot goes off. You will know it hit as you will see the damage. (See Below)

Now you have just a short time to line up the 2nd shot. Make it quick as once it leaves the screen, you will have to start again. (It returns all shiny and new with no damage.) So either use your finger to move the target or just tap the screen to target the Ship a 2nd time, MAKE SURE TARGET IS RED, then take the 2nd shot to destroy it. (If you don’t think you can hit it the amount of times needed…wait. Don’t worry, another will come along again. Do not waste your Torpedoes til you are ready for another go at it. )

HOW DO I KNOW I HIT SOMETHING?

You will know that you hit a ship by the Damage it shows. Here are some Examples…

Borg Cube

Borg Cube Hit 1: Shows a lil explosion damage

Borg Cube 1st Hit

Borg Cube Hit 2: Shows a lil more explosion damage

Borg Cube 2nd Hit

Borg Cube Hit 3: Disappears from screen and payout drops appear

Borg Cube 3rd Hit

Shielded PeterCraft

Shielded Petercraft Hit 1: Shows a lil Damage

Shielded Petercraft Hit 1

Shielded Petercraft Hit 2: Disappears from screen and payout drops appear

Romulan Warbird

Romulan Warbird Hit 1: Disappears from screen and payout drops appear

Big Chunky Asteroid Big Round Asteroid Lil Fast Moving Asteroid Medium Chunky Asteroid

Asteroids Hit 1: Disappears from screen and payout drops appear

If multiple items are in the Target screen, it did cause damage to ALL of them for me. For instance both the Shielded Petercraft and Borg Cube were in the Target and both showed damage from the hit.

WHAT PAYOUTS DO THE PHASER BATTLES GIVE?

I am still trying to verify some of these drops due to I have the Characters that would need the items already from the last Event. In the meantime, I will list the ones I was able to see in my test games. Feel free to share if you see others.

There you have it. The Basics of how to take out the items in the Phaser Battles. Hopefully this will help more of you successfully get the Ships destroyed.

What do you think of the Phaser Battles? Have you found any successful tips in taking one out in your game? Does this help you more to understand how to do it? What kind of Payouts are you getting? Let us know.
