In-Game Currency

newsSince the Family Guy Game is in BETA testing, limited to just a few regions (the US is NOT one of them) we’re starting to see some feedback and info from players already using the game as to what’s inside.  Now, keep in mind…it’s still in BETA testing, which means anything can change before the official launch.  These are just some preliminary things we’re seeing in player feedback.  So that all being said…let’s take a look at the current in game currency.

Much like other Freemium games, the Family Guy Game will have a free currency and a premium currency and they break down like this:

Coins: Coins are the free currency of choice for TinyCo (at least in BETA testing).  Coins will be earned when you complete tasks or quests.  Coins can also be earned by collecting “rent” on buildings.  Coins can be used to purchase buildings and decorations to build your Quahog.  From what we’re hearing from current players using the BETA game you can also use real life cash to purchase additional coins (if you’re feeling you’re not earning coins fast enough).

Clams: Clams are the premium currency of choice for TinyCo (at least in BETA testing).  Clams can be purchased through in-app purchases using real life cash.  Clams can be used to purchase premium items in the game as well as speed up tasks/builds to complete quests faster.  We are seeing reports from those playing the game in BETA of what the pricing on the Clams are BUT hesitate to publish those rates because it IS still in testing, which means TinyCo can make changes at anytime to the pricing structure before it is released worldwide.

What do you think of the in-game currency?  How do you feel about the option to use real cash to buy coins?  Are you currently playing the BETA version?  Let us know your thoughts and opinions on the game.  And if you’re currently playing the BETA version and have any screenshots or game insight you’d like to share with us please send us an email at familyguyaddicts@gmail.com.

  1. I’m hoping that the game economy makes more sense than it does in TSTO where it costs 2000 donuts to get 500,000 in game cash and there is no conversion of any kind in the other direction. That’s roughly $83.33 in real dollars at the boatload price for those of you keeping score at home. Lack of a conversion rate from coins to clams would likely result in a situation where serious players would find themselves with a glut of useless coins, analogous to the cash surpluses many TSTO players complain about today.

I also hope there won’t be a market for items like a 300 donut whale ($12.50) in the Family Guy, but that will depend on all of us more than it depends on Fox and TinyCo. The more we are willing to spend on what should be a micro-transaction item, the more they will charge us.

    • Eh…i’m hesitant to reveal what the BETA testers are saying/showing because the game could still change. BUT the conversion in this game isn’t much better. REALLY hoping that changes tho!
