Update 2/6 9:15 am EST: I know many of you are having issues with the PDA couples. They’re rough, I know. Here’s a tip that many readers have mentioned in the comments & something Bunny & I have found to work as well…Watch the limbs when they stop. If his leg goes up it’s a heart if her arm goes up it’s a broken heart. So make sure you’re watching when they STOP. And I know 2 minutes is rough to watch/tap…best thing to do if you think you need more time is send a request to TinyCo. We know they listen, so hopefully they’ll make an adjustment if enough people feel it’s needed. Good Luck!

The prizes for Love and Hate are different, so be sure to take a look at the Affection Meter page in the event hub for a list of prizes. You can only choose one!

The Couples
There are two types of couples…Fighting Couples and Enamored Couples. BUT they’re the exact same couple. What determines which heart you get is when you tap on them. You have to watch them closely…if he starts to dip her… you will get a love heart and they will start walking again shortly after… if she starts to yell at him…gotta be ready cuz she will slap him and you got to tap them between that yelling and smack to get hate heart. So pay attention to what they’re doing to make sure you get the right one.

So what’s the spawn rate? (again from TinyCo’s FAQ)
Couples will spawn every four hours. After they appear, these couples will only be available for two minutes. Shoo them away before they get a room!
Remember when they appear you only have 2 minutes to clear them. A timer will appear in your game in the bottom right corner. Watch it to make sure you get them all before time runs out!

The Game Currency for this event is Valentines Cards. These will be used to purchase unique event items & unlock various characters (you’ll need them for Handsome Peter for example).
Various characters have Valentine earning tasks. We’ll cover who can do what in another post…but they are out there. You’ll also earn 25 Valentines each time you complete part of the questlines for the Event. And they’ll also drop from event themed buildings.

After you start Beautiful People Pt. 6 you’ll get the trigger for Ida Davis. My Fair Lady will start up. You’ll have to repair the Park Bench, which can be found in the Valentine’s Day Event Area. It takes 8hrs and costs 50 Valentines.
Now…IDA IS TIMED!!! You will have 5 days to unlock once you repair the bench. So don’t do it until you’re ready!

What About Arnold?
Arnold is supposed to be part of this phase of the event. He is premium (250 Clams) BUT i’ve yet to uncover how to get him. Per TinyCo’s FAQ:
After you start “Clams and Muscles Pt.1,” Arnold Schwarzenegger will become available to purchase in the shop (along with the Action Hero Jet 2600) for 250 clams.
TinyCo has changed the FAQ to show it’s now when Beautiful People ends. Will finish that up and let you know what I find out.
Update: Finally got to a point where I’m able to purchase Arnold. He comes with the Hero Jet, which earns Valentines.
Here’s the benefit to Arnold…he has TWO actions that drop hearts. (broken or regular) Each time you complete it you’ll get 3 hearts (I’m fairly sure it’s an always drop. I’ve done it 3 times and gotten hearts each time. Pretty sweet since each action is only 4hrs to complete!
I’ve completed all the questlines (except for Beautiful People, there’s a part where you’ll need to clear 8 PDA couples so I’m held up at that), unlocked Handsome Peter & Ida Davis…yet I still don’t see the option to buy Arnold. I’ve sent a message to TinyCo about it & will let you know what happens once I know.

I don’t see any choice with the PDA couples but to remove all of the roads except for one long stretch of road which isn’t obscured by anything. After running three rounds of hunting around behind buildings, missing most of them because I have no idea where they even are, and picking the wrong ones half of the time because I can’t see the actions they’re taking (and thus ending up with no net gain either way), this is the only solution I can see. Really poorly thought out event that forces me to do something silly like this and end up making my already haphazardly laid out town look even worse. I’m not especially fond of this event so far — 2 minutes to look at all of these and figure out which are the right ones to tap??? Uggh. My brain isn’t quite quick enough for this.

Why freemium players need a cool pop culture character anyway… and who’s Ida Davis?? ugh… and that 2 minute time to tap on the couples is a broken playing mechanic, specially when you need to track them, wait to see their actions and tap; not to mention when a building is blocking the view, i dont want to remove my building or roads.

Okay was Arnold offered last year too or something? I only ask because he is used to help get handsome Peter but not available until after beautiful people ends and we have to already have beautiful Peter to end that quest line. Seems excessive.

If you tap the big heart in the Valentine’s area, it will give you info about which prize you win for either the broken hearts or the love rewards. It’s an archery set for hate and a building, Clammy Secrets, for Love.

Personal opinion I think the PDA couples completely sucks and is not worth the effort at this point. The first day of the event has for my game been a complete waste of effort. I have complained to TinyCo as this is by far their worst effort, I think they have over designed it. My daughter has also emailed. As a premium player I will show TinyCo my disappointment by keeping my money to myself this time around. It do think it needs changing quickly if they are not wanting to disaffect their customers. I have played the game almost since release and really enjoy the game but don’t feel I should have to constantly redesign the town just to catch a something which is present for 2 minutes. I also don’t have the time to always do this. The game is supposed to be a fun distraction, nothing more.

While I certainly appreciate that we’re not bombing them again, the PDA couples are ridiculous. Low spawn rate, limited window to act, impossible to tell them apart most of the time, and penalties for getting it wrong or triggering the wrong couple when they’re overlapping or very close together. It’s like TinyCo doesn’t do any testing before releasing new content.
Any time your players feel like they have to wreck the layout of their town to get some slight advantage in game play to make your event playable, there’s a problem with your game mechanics. We’re supposed to be rebuilding Quahog, not destroying it at every holiday. I had been working on a nice layout, but after having to wreck it and start over so often, now it’s just a loop of road with buildings piled around the edges of the map.

I removed most of my roads and when the PDA couples appeared, they were all in one spot, not hidden by any buildings, where I could zoom in and see the change in action (the slap or the lean back). It made a huge difference in me finding them and catching the right ones in under 2 minutes. Though my town looks strange without my streets, for the next few weeks, this is what I’ll have to do. Got all 5 Love prizes in about 30 seconds! Thanks for the tips everyone.

Sorry – still confused… I am still on 0 on the affection meter as I keep tapping the wrong couples as they all seem to be kissing while walking so I assumed they were the happy couples. Am I right in thinking that it is actually impossible to tell the difference while they are walking, and that you have to wait until they STOP walking… at which point they either kiss or slap – and that is when you should tap? Obviously want the better prize which seems to be the happy one first time.

The fighting couples are always fighting couples. Doesn’t matter when you tap them. Same with the enamored ones. I’m sure you both realize this – just trying to help sort out confusion with other posters.

Joel is right actually. There are 5 love couples and 5 hate. You do have to watch to know which is which, but they never change or switch up. If you click all 5 hate couples, you’re left with the 5 love couples until the timer runs out. If you catch all 5 love couples then the 5 hate couples disappear and so does the timer.

I’m liking the event. Just got used to the couples.
But the downside is the amount of clams needed. I spent 29.98 this morning on 2 bundles of 600 clams as that’s all I could afford, and now I’m down to 215. And I haven’t yet got to the part of getting Arnie.
I won’t be able to get him until I have more money and that’s when I get paid on the 27th. The day after the event ends.
I’ve made a complaint about a decoration costing 600 clams, that’s expensive, and made a request for the event to just be pushed back a few days so I can afford more clams.

Ok, so the heart meter resets when you get your item!! That means you can effectively get BOTH items if you strategize! It’s like the getting gifts for everyone on the wish list at Christmas time. Not all of the prizes are open to collect, yet. They are releasing them in phases. So I’m thinking you don’t have to stick with the same line all the way through the game. Just for a particular item.
Maybe later on it will be prudent to do so because the heart requirements will be higher, but for those first few items I think you can do them all before the next release!

Why is there to “Make Arnold Get a Checkup” to obtain Hot Wax (Rare) for Handsome Peter at Part 6 of the Beautiful People questline if Arnold shows up to be available to purchase only after the Beautiful People questline ends (as stated in TinyCo’s updated FAQ)? It doesn’t make sense at all!!
Also, is it possible to start obtaining the items required to unlock Ida before I complete repairing the park bench or not?
If I may share a tip with you regards the PDA couple: what I did was first store in the inventory all unnecessary characters that don’t help with this event as well as all moving decos that may be distracting to study the couples’ movements. Then I proceeded to remove all the roads in my city except for a little straight strip of road in front of Peter’s house since that’s where my game starts at whenever I load the game. The PDA couples will then spawn on this strip of road in front of Peter’s house. Without any distractions from other character and moving decos roaming about, I wait until the man of the couple raises his leg to tap them for a heart or wait until the woman of the couple smacks the man to tap them for a broken heart.
Hope I was clear enough as this way is working out fine to get heart/broken hearts 😛

Like a few previous commenters said, if you really want to be able to figure out the couples then it’s best to remove all your roads. I took all mine away and made a little patch of road in a free area where I could see well. I try to put my characters on indoor tasks so they’re not in the way either. I know that sucks, and it’s more work than a game should be, so I’m still complaining to TinyCo to see if they’ll change something. But until then, if you’re interested in those prizes, this seems like the way to go!

I’ve been asked to repair the bench. I started the repair but will refrain from tapping the check mark until ready. However none of my characters have the items needed for Ida listed in their task list. When does the times show up on their task list ?

After you “find” Ida. So you have to start the timer to get the items.
My suggestion is build up your Valentines first. Get enough for the Self-Love Tunnel (and more) then start Ida. That’s going to be your hardest challenge with this one.

I am confused about the heart counter for the love/hate prizes. I only have a number five on the love side and I know I’ve gotten more than five hearts. Can anyone tell me the specifics of the counting meter?

So fellow addicts are you feeling the love yet? I’ve found keeping one long strip road only is working for observing the lovers and I am starting to notice the actions now. Just took few attempts to get used to the behaviour patterns Alissa has mentioned. Have to say the event area looks awesome, it’s a continuing nice touch in the game.

Yes, this worked for me too. I removed all except one strip of road that was not blocked by buildings. Then when the couples spawned, I watched for the guys leg to lift back, and I was able to get all the lovers’ red hearts in a matter of seconds.

Swing and a miss on the PDA couples. It’s a tough line to walk between making a game mechanic engaging and challenging while not making it impossible and frustrating.
It’s extremely difficult to gauge when to tap on them for a specific type of heart. The animations aren’t distinct enough to be clearly seen, even on an ipad retina. Haven’t tried it on my iphone, yet, but I can only imagine it’s even worse.
The 2 minute countdown is not reasonable when you have to:
1. Find the couples
2. Zoom in on them
3. Watch and try to catch them on a specific action
Finding them is problematic when they’re hiding behind buildings and your quahog is filled with finished actions and building rewards. So there’s little to no chance of not hitting those while trying to tap the couples as they walk around and then there’s the possibility of the obnoxious character level up screen coming up and costing you more time. Add in the 4 hour spawn rate and that makes the PDA couples not worth the effort.

This was an interesting one… I got the 2 Valentines, then the 4 items. I tried a 7th and it errored. Came back and it was gone. Came back later, it reappeared aND I popped on it and got an additional 500 HV.. I guess you have no excuse about not getting enough HV for the Event at 75 clams a pop. 🙂

You know it is stupid to have Arnold after the beautiful people quest line cause one of his tasks is to help get beautiful peter which is part 6 of the quest line. Seriously if people want Arnold to help with Peter than why have him available after you get beautiful Peter is got really dumb on tiny co.’s part.

None of my characters yet are dropping any valentines items, like Jerome or Bonnie twerking. Does this happen after a certain point?

I’m annoyed by the prize system.
Yow do (broken) hearts affect the meter?
This morning I had 6 love. Now I co e back from school clear some of the people and still 6.
Today I only got 2 broken hearts.
Oh also 2 minutes is way to hard to clear the PDAs . I have a big town and whenever I see a PDA it is a mad one. Oh it also takes like 10 seconds for them to stop walking.

You can’t just quickly tap-to-clear like previous events. There is only one meter, it moves toward the direction of the hearts you gather. You have to choose between which prize you want, you can’t get both. Only tap the couples when they will give you the type of heart you need to push the meter towards the prize you want.
I agree 2 minutes is too short.

I’m having the hardest time remembering the couples 😦 I don’t get a pop up and I’m busy trying to get characters unchecked and to new task. Wish there was an ON switch for the countdown or maybe didn’t start counting down until you clicked the first couple. It takes those entire 2 minutes plus to get the couples bc of having to watch which one they are. I’ve missed 2 turns now and when I started the event I had no idea what I was doing do i missed a lot there 😦 double whammy on me

Liking the event so far. As others have said, finding all the lovers in two minutes is challenging. I like having the challenge though. Not just one of those click to remove types that are too easy.
Anybody else loving the Hollywood movie slates that signifies an animated outside job?

Looks like the stuff to get peter takes away from getting valentines since the tasks for peter do not give valentines There are so many characters that aren’t used. Why couldn’t they have split it up valentines and character item tasks. =( Other than that i think i play this game too much!

I’m shocked that you didn’t get us a gratuitous shot of Beautiful Peter’s buns! Tinyco outdid themselves and it looks like you could crack walnuts on his cheeks. A definite rival for King Butt. I kind of hope there is a little rivalry between the two in the mix for us. Quagmire Giggity strutting while Peter shows his pecs, lats and abs … No contest. BUT Arnold, King Butt and Beautiful Peter in a showdown?? Yeah … It would be Sooo cool that those guys would sweat Ice cubes!

Can’t tell the difference between enamored and angry couples. Yes, I’ve read the entire thread above. I “get” the theory… But 2min is too quick and I have way too many roads and tall buildings.
So I have to remove all my roads (again) just to try and watch these couples, that hardly ever stop walking. So completely frustrated that this may be the end of quohog for me. I’ve played since the beginning, but this valentine’s event is nit making me feel the love… So annoying.

It is near impossible to figure and find all the correct couples before the timer runs out. Especially if you have a game full of buildings to collect st the time. Adjust it TinyCo.

I thought the same thing so I killed most of my roads but a strip. It’s easier to see the couples but as long as you don’t move your buildings putting the roads back where they were is easy. Just a piece of advice.

I keep clicking the kissing couples (they are defo kissing not fighting) but I keep getting broken hearts? This is gonna be impossible. I want the love prizes not the hate ones…

Watch their legs/arms. If the guys leg goes up it’s a love if the girls arm goes up it’s hate. Anything outside of that is a 50/50 shot

I really hate the fact that I have to keep removing all my roads in order to do these “find the item” things. It defeats the purpose of making a cool Quahog… without roads it just looks like a wasteland. It’s ruining the “fun”. 😦

Wait til they stop walking you will either see her slap him or they will really get into kissing. I recommend having a small strip of road only as it helps see more couples and be able to get the ones you want.

Not sure if this is already posted somewhere (feel free to show me the link if so), but do you have a list of all of the workout tasks that the guys do to earn Valentines? I can make assumptions, but I don’t want to send them on a task that I think is a workout to find that they didn’t earn anything for it. Thanks!

Watch their limbs. If his leg goes up it’s a heart if her arm goes up it’s a broken heart. Anything inbetween (when they’re walking) is a 50/50 shot

I don’t get all the complaints… The game even has pictures of which ones to click! The couples with the guy getting slapped give broken hearts took me about a minute to catch on cmon people

The PDA couples are SUPER ANNOYING already and I just encountered them this morning. Just reading the comments here it’s clear TinyCo did a poor job on this.
With only two minutes it’s hard enough tracking the couples down without having to stalk them and wait for them to do their “special action” before tapping them.

Question regarding the LOVE/HATE PRIZES. Can you only get 1 of the 2? Or can you make them go one way first, claim the prize, and then make them go the other way for the 2nd prize?

Because its set up in phases, I’m kind of wondering if you won’t be able to do both if you complete the requirements for the first segment, getting two of the items because you will still get lovers in your Quahog. I guess we can bank the hearts, too, so that you can get through the next section a little quicker.
1st item only requires 15 hearts; next 50. Then it stops there because we have to wait for second week’s release…. So I’m kind I’d wondering if we can. I guess that would mean we’d have to work our way backward, though, because each Purple Heart cancels out your red hearts ….

They need to make the animation for the PDA couples faster, wasting precious time watching them walk around before they stop and kiss or slap. TC should make the PDA couples stationary, and not hidden behind buildings.

Not Bad Cupid earns 12 Valentines and 30 exp every 8 hours.

The timing on the spawn rates of the couples is 3, 7 & 11 o’clock (a.m. or p.m. makes no difference) Eastern Standard Time. That should be 2, 6 & 10 o’clock Central, 1, 5 & 9 Mountain & 4, 8 & 12 Pacific … Etc.
If you don’t log in right at the hour, they will appear the first time you log in & the way these usually work, even if you wait 3 hours to log in, the next wave will still appear at the given interval even if that is only an hour apart.
For example, if I’m in Eastern Time zone & I check the game at 11:01 p.m. Clear the couples that spawn & go to bed, I could sleep through the night, wake up at 6:55 a.m. to round up the 3 a.m. pack, wait until the 7 a.m. Pack spawns a few minutes later, clear them out & go back to sleep for an hour or two without ever missing an opportunity to clear a couple. The next group of couples should be available first time I log in after 11 a.m. & again after 3 & 7 p.m. Throughout the day.
