Family Guy: The Constant Quest For New Stuff!!!

Hey Addicts, I’m seeing a lot of you are starting to suffer withdrawal symptoms due to the recent delays in new events starting. I’m even seeing comments asking is this Futurama: Wolds Of Tomorrow all over again, and it made me think just how quickly everything changed, or to be precise didn’t change, in New New York, as the game literally came to a shuttering halt. At the time I sent this little message to TinyCo to try lift the radio silence that  had fallen over the game for players.

It was an extremely frustrating time for players but the reason I’m writing this It to tell you to stop worrying, the fate that befell FWOT is not about to hit FGQFS, the sky is not falling on our beloved Quahog’s just yet.

What we’re seeing is just some delays, honestly they’re not that bad, on the previous 2 events we saw delays of less than 48 hours, and on this one we’re now at a little over 72 hours. I know in the mobile gaming world that seems like a lifetime but really it’s not, especially if you compare it to the months of nothing over in Tapped Out earlier in the year.  All the little tappers were up in arms predicting the end of the game but they were wrong, eventually as I,and Alissa over at Tapped Out Addicts, kept saying new content appeared and the game lives on.

And it’s the same here, your fears of the end are unfounded, there is no plans at this time to end FGQFS. How do I know? Because TinyCo told me so.

As revealed on this site recently, not only are they still working on events but are also looking to launch some new features such as the Quahog Historical Society.  So there’s plenty to come, but be aware much of this will concern bring back old characters and costumes, something many newer players will welcome but other long term players might not see as particularly new.

Players are also asking if there is less staff on FGQFS, well since its heyday when it was released over 5 years ago, of course there has been changes. TinyCo itself was bought by Jam City, and this in itself saw changes. New games have also been released and others are planned. Nothing stays static in the mobile gaming industry for long, and that includes staff, they come and go, but I can assure you there is still a team working on FGQFS content, and just as importantly there’s support. I can tell you support have been trying hard to help players this year, they want to part of the community. But let’s be real as the game has moved towards its twilight years the staff may be less but that’s to be expected. It’s the same with players, there’s a lot less now than there was at the start, again to be expected.

As a player from the start, and reader of this site before I became a writer on it, I can tell you players had this game going belly up before it was a year old, they said it would never last, but here we are after 5 years and it’s still going. Now I thought TinyCo might decide to let the game go out with a bang on its 5 year anniversary, I’d have understood if they had as five years for a mobile game of this type is very good going, but they didn’t do that and I now think it will still be going and will celebrate 6 years.

But I do think the game is in it’s twilight time, we are seeing little new in the area of game features, many events just repeat the format of ones we’ve seen previously. But at least there’s a quite a  few formats to mix up and use, over in Tapped Out since it’s return from its hiatus every single event has used the same format and boredom has set in big time.

I’m not saying there’s no boredom here, but we are about to get the new Quahog Historical Society feature, I’m guessing we’ll see this launch in the next month or so. And as much as this is about bring back old content maybe it will lead to something else new.

And that my friends brings me to the 2 big issues that affect all mobile games at some point, out-dated devices and glitches. In a world where technology is moving at breakneck speed trying to make a game function on every platform and device is a nightmare. And recently both FGQFS and TSTO have saw many players unable to continue their journey on many devices, the games are just too much for some older devices to handle now. It’s frustrating but it’s partly down to us, we live in a society where many constantly want new devices, upgrades and updates, and sadly this sees those who are happy to stick with the device they bought in the year dot shut out.

Also the sheer quantity of operating systems and devices makes it impossible to test out content on them all. Gone are the easy days developers only made games that would run on a couple of systems such as X-Box and PlayStation. Testing on these was easy, but testing on literally hundreds, no thousands of possible combinations of device and operating systems, well it’s just not possible, so to some extent we are the testers. And that’s seen many players glitched out their games, in FGQFS we’ve the duplicate character glitch, and in Tapped Out there was the dreaded Rollback glitch. Both a nightmare for players and the developers alike but whereas the massive entity that is EA simply gave up on trying fix players games with the Rollback glitch, the miniscule in comparison TinyCo are still fixing individual games that have the duplicate glitch. As I said TinyCo support are really trying hard to work with players, as we become less they value us more.

Anyways that was all a long winded way of me saying calm down, the games not ending, the delays aren’t that bad, and new content is coming. But be realistic in your expectations of what will be ahead as the game is old, it’s a bit like dogs ages, every calendar year in a mobile game ages you 7 years.

And finally try to remember it is a game, just that and no more, worse things happen in life than an event glitchung or being delayed. I know that might sound a bit flippant if you’re impacted by issues but it’s the reality of things, believe me I know.

Until the next event, tell me what you think in the comments, whether you agree, disagree, want to vent or whatever.

Oh well, I’m on vacation this week in Orlando and don’t really have time to play during the day, so really it’s a good week for me to wait.

  3. even if they’re not adding new characters, it can’t be that hard to make a bunch of new quest lines or districts. there’s over 300 episodes of FG to source material from.

  4. RT Thank you very much for the update. Curious if the Quahog Historical Society will be a constant like Tan Lines, and if we could use our Tan Lines money for characters, buildings and decos. This would be a terrific way to allow those of us who want to get certain characters we missed out on (ex: Alf, which i used all my clams at the time to open that mystery box over 10x and didn’t get him) to have a chance to get every character, building or deco we’ve missed so far. Thanks.

  5. Don’t know if this is a stupid idea or unworkable, but if TinyCo need a breather why not just run old events. So many newer players never got to play the Godfather, Star Trek, etc events. Re-up the licenses, buy some time, give players a second chance. Might go down well. From my early days I didn’t have enough materials to advance as far as I would have liked and lost out on cool costumes & characters. Just an idea. I think many older players would probably be very placated with just having something to do with the coins and Stewie bucks. Buying time might also allow for a new district, skip events for a couple of months, etc. Anyhoo, thanx again RT. You really help keep the gamers well informed.

P.S. This is the only game of this type I play. If it dies, I be sad. Any ideas on what to replace it with?

    P.P.S I hated Futurama. LOL

    • Thanks. There’s nothing really like this apart from Tapped Out, and it’s also slowing down.

I think we’ll need to see what the Quahog Historical Society brings us with regards old characters and costumes. Re-running events wasn’t that popular when they did it with Star Trek, lots complaining.

  6. it has been nice not to have to check the game every 2hrs (admittedly i have still been opening the app to see if an event has dropped but only 2-3 times a day so its a more relaxed and casual approach).

I also appreciate that fact RT took the time to write a lengthy post with own thoughts on the future of the game and address some of the fears/concerns players have. Thanks RT, echoing what Derek said, without you/this site many players probably would have given up a long time ago.

side point – i contacted Jam City recently about FWOT asking for any info about upcoming content or if the game is dead but got a standard response about ‘cant comment on future content.. take all feedback into consideration… will forward onto dev team’. Their response offered nothing really so until we see proper content drop, ie. an event, not a “premium” character, I think the game may be over.

    • Thanks as always. Futurama, I honestly think they don’t know what to do there, they’ve not shut down ability to buy pizza, which fit me would be first sign that it would soon disappear. I’m thinking with the giant mystery box folk are still playing to empty that, and rather than buying pizza they are earning watching videos etc to earn pizza, which may be making enough to sustain the game in its current form, it certainly wouldn’t cover cost new content. It’s a pity as it had the makings of a good game until they went crazy with the levelling Up of characters.

      • Great article! I actually deleted the Futurama game 7 or 8 months ago. I have over 3,000 clams saved up and I’ve always told my wife whenever the game is ending I’m gonna buy that stupid 750 clam!!!! Kool-aid man just for the heck of it. I’ve been playing quest for stuff for a little over 3 years hence all the clams I have accumulated, I admit this game is frustrating most times. Most events I never finish the last week as by the time I get to it there are usually only a few days left so i just take a break and wait for the next event to start.
Anywho this was a rambling post but it’s nice to have a breather in this game right now, I’ll have to check out the historical society you mentioned.
Thanks Tigger for keeping us up to date on everything!!

  7. Hey man, it’s been an extremely long time! Haven’t really played this game since… when did Jigsaw become an unlockable character during which Halloween event? Mainly, my old phone kept locking me out and, long and behold, it was mainly because of storage. Anyways, after getting a new phone and a little nervous to see if the game still worked, it managed to come back. So I’m slowly getting back into it. I’ve managed to play a tad bit of the previous event, but I’m trying to make a come back! I’ve been busy with other app games in the mean time, but I’m looking forward for my little “homecoming” event that’s gonna happen any day when it does!

      • Thanks! Like I said, I’m just waiting for the newest event. I’m glad that FG is rolling out with rereleases of old characters. Hopefully it’ll give me a chance to actually complete and get ‘new’ characters for myself. I think my major downhill was during the 2016 Halloween when it crashed from midway event all the way till the end of the following event. Something like that. I’m happy to see new things added tho!

  8. There have been a few delays, but I don’t think it means much. When you have the update already in the FAQ’s of the game there must be something going on behind the scenes. Bug troubles etc. It’s if they start taking more and more actual breaks, then I will be wondering. lol

    • I think the constant demand for fresh constant and no breaks is what causes lot of the issues in mobile games, no time for thorough testing and little time to create new game play, hence we see so much of what I call rinse and repeat events, same gameplay just different content. I’m one folk who quite enjoys a wee break between events but I know for most they like the continuous play. As I said in the post KC, I honestly thought they’d bow out with a big 5 year anniversary event, and I’d have thought fair enough. So I’m quite happy see the game is going on.

  10. I’m OK with it. It’s nice to have a little break, frankly. Sometimes it becomes too much — especially if you have an addict personality. I’m using the time to get up to 160 million coins, 55 Gold Stewie Bucks, and other personal goals that I set for myself as challenges. The game is what you make of it for yourself, I think.

  11. I think they should just roll out on Wednesday as usual so we get the normal amount of time to work on the event. Hopefully they can work out any glitches and it’ll give them time to address players who have had long-standing issues. Looking forward to the Quahog Historical Society!

  13. Thank you RT for your excellent post, we addicts do get impatient very quickly. And it is true that Tinyco has improved their customer service. I’ve had two major glitches this year and I got both problems solved under 24 hours. So yes, even though this game has become a bit repetative I’m still very happy that it keeps going.

    • If there is a delay in rolling out the new content, why not let the current content play longer? Let people like me who never finish quests, finish one? Makes no difference to those who finish quickly; they are still twiddling their thumbs waiting.

      Like

      • They did extend it 23 hours, but extensions tend to cause issues, players who spend Clams will then complain if they’d known the event would go longer they wouldn’t have spent them. So to make players like yourself happy, they upset others, and some of those are their bread and butter players as they spend real money on the game. So it’s damned if they do, damned if they don’t On this I’m afraid.

I have had a couple of problems in the last couple of months and Jam City has been very helpful. Amazon was very slow getting the update loaded and The people at Jam City were in touch with me every day until Amazon got off their *****. And recently the game glitched on me and reset me back to a new game, even changed my game number. They had all my data reloaded in a day (always keep a copy of your game number in case this happens). At one time I lost over a year’s progress when I changed devices, should have had my number. Jam City’s customer support people have been wonderful. In all gaming stuff happens so right now is time to just sit back and let the building money pile up and wait.

  17. I think at this point, they need to take into account when the events end. Normally events start/end on Wednesday afternoon. Starting a new event on a different day makes a week either run short or long, which may mean tweaking it mid-event. It looks like the next event is going to be a 4 week event. I say, either wait until Wednesday afternoon to drop it to get back on schedule, or if they drop it Monday, then have that be the new drop date going forward.

  18. I believe TinyCo/JamCity are trying their best. Im sure they are losing money with these delays also. After playing for 3 yrs. straight, I welcome this “mini Delay”. Since I don’t have to check FGQFS every 4 hrs. to see if I may get a drop of something, I’m now able to sleep longer . Lol. But at the same time I miss playing. Go figure.

  19. Oh, by the way, did jam city give you any idea of when the new event may start? As if it matters, as they told you Friday and we see what that was worth.

    Like

    • The plan was for Friday release but obviously a hiccup, I’d guess at Monday at the earliest as they don’t tend to do weekend releases.

      • At this point they might wait til Wednesday just to get back on their standard release cadence. Otherwise the internet outrage machine gets turned on when future events don’t get “extra days” even though it’s actually starting late.

  20. Hope they know how many of us would quit without your efforts. Their lack of communication is stunning and, frankly, insulting. To me, the big pain in the tuches lately is checking in for nothing so many times to see if the event is starting yet in the fear that it could start anytime and, if I don’t keep checking ,it may start and I do not want to begin an event by being behind. Thanks, RT.

    • I get that and unfortunately with only me on the site I can’t guarantee I’ll immediately catch it going live, I’m not on the game 24hrs so I get it. I’ll keep asking and hopefully get a heads up on what’s happening with the event start.

  21. I do know that there are a lot of players that use Facebook to play, but almost always about 98% of the time. You get that “dreadful” message: “Please pardon our dust……”

Does Tinyco/Jamcity plan on doing anything with the Facebook version of the game? Or are they going to “widdle” it out to be “non-existent”?

I do know there are a “TON” of people that are unable to play on mobile (just as you stated above there) Due to “out-dated devices”. Or just some people have their quahog flooded with too many buildings.

So there’s a question for Tinyco/Jamcity: “Will the Facebook version ever be updated, or shutdown?”

  22. Considering most of us are Freeniun players who might make the odd clam purchase to get a special character or item, I certainly wouldn’t complain about a delay for new content. If I had paid for the game it might be a different story. Plus, this time off has given me chance to catch up with sone of the other games I play, or go out for an afternoon without having to open up my game every hour or two to assign new tasks. If anything, it’s been quite relaxing 🙂
