Hey Addicts, I’m seeing a lot of you are starting to suffer withdrawal symptoms due to the recent delays in new events starting. I’m even seeing comments asking is this Futurama: Wolds Of Tomorrow all over again, and it made me think just how quickly everything changed, or to be precise didn’t change, in New New York, as the game literally came to a shuttering halt. At the time I sent this little message to TinyCo to try lift the radio silence that had fallen over the game for players.
It was an extremely frustrating time for players but the reason I’m writing this It to tell you to stop worrying, the fate that befell FWOT is not about to hit FGQFS, the sky is not falling on our beloved Quahog’s just yet.
What we’re seeing is just some delays, honestly they’re not that bad, on the previous 2 events we saw delays of less than 48 hours, and on this one we’re now at a little over 72 hours. I know in the mobile gaming world that seems like a lifetime but really it’s not, especially if you compare it to the months of nothing over in Tapped Out earlier in the year. All the little tappers were up in arms predicting the end of the game but they were wrong, eventually as I,and Alissa over at Tapped Out Addicts, kept saying new content appeared and the game lives on.
And it’s the same here, your fears of the end are unfounded, there is no plans at this time to end FGQFS. How do I know? Because TinyCo told me so.
As revealed on this site recently, not only are they still working on events but are also looking to launch some new features such as the Quahog Historical Society. So there’s plenty to come, but be aware much of this will concern bring back old characters and costumes, something many newer players will welcome but other long term players might not see as particularly new.
Players are also asking if there is less staff on FGQFS, well since its heyday when it was released over 5 years ago, of course there has been changes. TinyCo itself was bought by Jam City, and this in itself saw changes. New games have also been released and others are planned. Nothing stays static in the mobile gaming industry for long, and that includes staff, they come and go, but I can assure you there is still a team working on FGQFS content, and just as importantly there’s support. I can tell you support have been trying hard to help players this year, they want to part of the community. But let’s be real as the game has moved towards its twilight years the staff may be less but that’s to be expected. It’s the same with players, there’s a lot less now than there was at the start, again to be expected.
As a player from the start, and reader of this site before I became a writer on it, I can tell you players had this game going belly up before it was a year old, they said it would never last, but here we are after 5 years and it’s still going. Now I thought TinyCo might decide to let the game go out with a bang on its 5 year anniversary, I’d have understood if they had as five years for a mobile game of this type is very good going, but they didn’t do that and I now think it will still be going and will celebrate 6 years.
But I do think the game is in it’s twilight time, we are seeing little new in the area of game features, many events just repeat the format of ones we’ve seen previously. But at least there’s a quite a few formats to mix up and use, over in Tapped Out since it’s return from its hiatus every single event has used the same format and boredom has set in big time.
I’m not saying there’s no boredom here, but we are about to get the new Quahog Historical Society feature, I’m guessing we’ll see this launch in the next month or so. And as much as this is about bring back old content maybe it will lead to something else new.
And that my friends brings me to the 2 big issues that affect all mobile games at some point, out-dated devices and glitches. In a world where technology is moving at breakneck speed trying to make a game function on every platform and device is a nightmare. And recently both FGQFS and TSTO have saw many players unable to continue their journey on many devices, the games are just too much for some older devices to handle now. It’s frustrating but it’s partly down to us, we live in a society where many constantly want new devices, upgrades and updates, and sadly this sees those who are happy to stick with the device they bought in the year dot shut out.
Also the sheer quantity of operating systems and devices makes it impossible to test out content on them all. Gone are the easy days developers only made games that would run on a couple of systems such as X-Box and PlayStation. Testing on these was easy, but testing on literally hundreds, no thousands of possible combinations of device and operating systems, well it’s just not possible, so to some extent we are the testers. And that’s seen many players glitched out their games, in FGQFS we’ve the duplicate character glitch, and in Tapped Out there was the dreaded Rollback glitch. Both a nightmare for players and the developers alike but whereas the massive entity that is EA simply gave up on trying fix players games with the Rollback glitch, the miniscule in comparison TinyCo are still fixing individual games that have the duplicate glitch. As I said TinyCo support are really trying hard to work with players, as we become less they value us more.
Anyways that was all a long winded way of me saying calm down, the games not ending, the delays aren’t that bad, and new content is coming. But be realistic in your expectations of what will be ahead as the game is old, it’s a bit like dogs ages, every calendar year in a mobile game ages you 7 years.
And finally try to remember it is a game, just that and no more, worse things happen in life than an event glitchung or being delayed. I know that might sound a bit flippant if you’re impacted by issues but it’s the reality of things, believe me I know.
Until the next event, tell me what you think in the comments, whether you agree, disagree, want to vent or whatever.
