I’d like to start by stating that there will be numerous comparisons to The Simpsons Tapped Out in this post. Both TV shows have been compared quite often and when this game was announced, it was presented to us as ”another tapped out game”. Although the names are different, there are stricking similarities that can’t go unnoticed. Keep in mind that the goal here is not to decide which game is the best but to give the readers a reference in explanations. Most of you came here from TSTO blogs and have played Simpsons Tapped Out and by exposing the similarities and differences between the 2 games, it will give you a better idea of what I’m talking about. Also remember that this is just about my opinion after getting the first feel of Quest For Stuff as I may discover new things along the way that will change my mind (for better or for worse, who knows!) about certain aspects. Most of all, I hope you’re all as thrilled as I am to start a new game!
I love how they start off by saying the show is cancelled again. For those of you who may not know this, Family Guy was cancelled after its 3rd season in 2003. Because of the DVDs high sales, great ratings on the reruns airing on the Cartoon Network and Comedy Central, fans wrote in a petition to Fox whom ultimately decided to bring back the show permantly in 2005. It’s funny how the characters are seemingly aware that their lives are on television; and mad about the fact that they soon won’t be anymore. The fight with the giant chicken was priceless. It’s a classic from the show that will make all fans smile. I think they couldn’t have made a better video intro for the game.
The premium currency is golden clams and you can buy them the same way you buy donuts for TSTO. The difference is that you can also buy the regular currency, without exchanging it with the premium one. All of this seems very expensive, just like in TSTO. Obviously, some of the most interesting content is premium, like Consuela and her house. You can also speed up tasks with the premium currency but I wouldn’t advise anyone to do that, not at the beginning anyway.
I’m kinda suprised Bonnie is unlocked so early. I was expecting main characters to surface before recurring ones but again, this is similar to TSTO where we unlock Flanders before Bart! I am glad that Quagmire, the Hawaiian shirt wearing pervert is unlocked early, because he’s one of my favorite characters on the show. GIGGITTY!!!!!!!!
I like the way the menu is layed out. It sort of ressambles the one in TSTO but to me it seems to flow more smoothly. Maybe as time goes on and the list gets longer, I’ll get annoyed by having to browse endlessly to get the item I want, but we’ll see. The music in the background seems to be continous as opposed to TSTO where the music stops playing after a few minutes in your Springfield. I may get tired of Quahog’s theme at some point. Also, when I left the game untouched for a little while, my screen closed on me. In TSTO, if you leave it untouched, your game will keep running until YOU decide to leave the app.
There seems to be a whole lot more tasks per character than what we’re used to with TSTO. I appreciate the variety but in Peter’s case, I think too many choices can leave you undecided as to what to chose to make him do when he isn’t prompted on a quest. It’s like going to a restaurant with a 6 page menu. Everything looks so good, you don’t even know what you wanna eat anymore! So far, I have 1 hour, 2 hours, and 6 hours tasks. I hope to see several different lenghts. From my experience, someone with a ”life” would prefer 4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours and 12 hours so you can schedule your gameplay around work, school and family obligations more easily.
I can’t believe there’s actually a task that makes Chris find a bag of ”oregano” and the dirty names for some tasks or items like ”enjoy private time (with a box of tissues) the well trimmed bush that looks like the large edge in TSTO, Quagmire’s cock-in-a-bottle! When you tap on a character, you can drag them around and its quite funny. You may drag them to the area where they have a task to have them do it. And so far I see that all characters are voiced as opposted to TSTO who’s only voiced characters are those voiced by an actor from the main cast.
I visited a ”other Quahog” which is similar to the other Springfield. You get to do 3 actions to acquire currency. The main difference being that you may get a golden clam for tapping something in a friend’s Quahog when in TSTO, that won’t happen unless you’ve reached the end of the last current friendship level and/or during special events, such as Halloween. I created myself an account for the game but still haven’t added anyone as I don’t want to add people via facebook. At this moment, I can’t seem to find another way to do it. None of my facebook friends have started playing the game and I don’t want to add a bunch of random people I don’t know on my facebook so there isn’t much more I can say about the social aspect of the game at this moment.
When you build new houses, restaurants or acquire land, you need an illegal Mexican to do the job for you. That means that you cannot build 2 things at once, unless you buy another Mexican for 50 golden clams. In TSTO, everything builds on its own and you can build as many houses and stores as your wallet allows you to. The land in Quest For Stuff costs in game money like in TSTO but it also requires an available illegal Mexican. I’m starting to think that even if you’re going freemium on this game, you may want to buy a Mexican or two (or three since you can get up to four) to avoid the annoyance of waiting until your first Mexican is done doing the previous task.
Please share your experience with the others in the comment section below. I’m interested to see what you guys think and we can probably help others with glitches or with things they don’t understand about the game. Questers unite!

Indeed, i also tought it was going to be like tsto… But its WAY different, some people might like how it turned out differend
But i hated it, and deleated it

At first I hated it but I gave it a shot anyway and it eventually grew on me.. Since ive been playing tsto for so long, I dont even bother putting my characters on tasks unless theres a quest and I only collect buildings with handshakes so it leaves me with not much to do. The family guy game definetly filled that gap for me

I totally agree with all points in this post! Def nailed it bc i feel the same. I have a FB but i deactivated it bc of so much bs on it. I also agree that the heavier touch helps when moving items. I play it when there is a lull in TSTO. I collect and distribute tasks then i’m outta there. TSTO will always be # 1 and this # 2.

I don’t like the chance element of FG. In TSTO we can use a bit of game play strategy to decide which tasks to do in what order. In FG we are forced to rely on chance to complete a task.

So not sure if thus is the right place to post or not but in regards to the FB friends issue I created a FB just for this game and that seems to be working’. Before the crash I had picked up quite a few neighbors.

I know about this workaround but I really dont feel like doing that. I didnt even make a fb until January this year so making a 2nd one because the game is not giving a good option, not happening

Can I say, because one or more admins to TSTO addicts posted the family guy web page & app, I only checked it out because they were excited about it. I like it, but definitely NOT like TSTO!!!! I prefer games that do not require FB friends to progress. Most of my friends HATE game requests!!

We all have issue with FB. They are working on a different way. It is great to keep giving them feedback so they can adjust appropriately to what will help their players. 🙂

Well we’re glad you checked it out!
Yea, we’re not too thrilled about the Facebook thing either BUT i think it was more so so they can get you to get friends right away. I remember in the early days of TSTO it was awhile before Origin came to the game & there was no way to visit friends. I’m confident they’re working on a similar method to add friends, but wanted to get the social interaction going from the start. 🙂

It’s hard not to compare the two games! But I’m finding a few fun new things here and there too! I’m loving the fun story line and gags. I’m also enjoying my new friends towns. I opted to create a new FB page but that was actually ok cause I’ve been wanting to make a strictly gaming page for myself anyway. They definitely have some bugs to tweak out (I have 20+ friends and it’s not clearing the ask 5 friends quest, its kinda awkward and clunky to move objects, and it’s kinda weird you can only build one thing at a time). I’ll be holding onto my real money until I’m sure this is something I really want to spend it on.

About the moving objects, you are so right! When I tried it, it would either not move or go to far too fast. Trying to move something for just 1 square took me 2 minutes. I hope they fix this

I finally cleared the 5 friends quest (I read a FB post that said you can only add “friends” who are NOT already playing the game). So friends you add from this site won’t help the quest. This would make sense since TinyCo wants new players to download the game. I too find the object moving rough, but I started pushing down on objects harder and it seems to work (the game seems not to like the “light” touch lol). Hope this helps.😊

I really hope they allow us to add friends another way because this isnt gotta cut it for me

They even put a message in the game help area that they are working on another way around it. The creator said he really is trying. I don’t like it so much either.
