Tapped Out or Quest for Stuff?

Hello there Quahogians!

I’m going to bring you a post today comparing Family Guy: The Quest For Stuff with another popular game – The Simpsons: Tapped Out. I’ll compare features like gameplay, grahics, sound, adding friends and a summary.

Ok, lets get going then!

Gameplay

The Simpsons: Tapped Out: TSTO generally has smooth gameplay, although it does occur glitches very often. It’s questlines are very topical and streamline to the show, and the Characters are a variety of common and uncommon characters. It is a shame that we have to wait a long time for the content updates though, but it does regularly bring episode tie-ins and big events.

Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff: As a new game, it hasn’t had chance yet to bring us any updates, but as far as gameplay is concerned, the content is very promising, and I have only noticed some minor performance issues – nothing major. I think that the content and quests are funnier than TSTO, is very reliable for content (most of the time!).

Graphics

The Simpsons: Tapped Out: The graphics on TSTO are usually brilliant! There are great animations for the tasks, buildings and decorations and everything is to a great standard – even the small videos that are like they are extracts from the show. It is a shame that it occasionally experiences a minor glitch where the building changes to a “mixed” building formation when there is too much in a confined space.

Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff: This game had great graphics for the buildings, decorations and characters (anyone have a favourite animation yet? I love Quagmires “nap” with Peter!). There aren’t any glitches that I have heard about yet which is a promising sign.

Sound

The Simpsons: Tapped Out: TSTO has the option to have some basic music on in the background and also has some of the characters voiced when you tap on them. It is a shame that not all the characters are voiced because it would be great for TSTO if they were all voiced

Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff: Like TSTO, this game also has some basic music in the background and has character voices. Unlike TSTO, Quest for Stuff has all it’s characters voiced! This makes a great addition to the game, even though it is just something small.

Adding Friends

The Simpsons: Tapped Out: In TSTO, there is a fairly easy way for adding friends – through origin. It has had various bugs in the past, but it has now improved and works a lot better.

Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff: In the Quest for Stuff, the only option of adding friends is not great. You have to link your account with a facebook account to ad friends, which is obviously hard to do if you don’t have a facebook account. I really hope that in the future there is an alternative method for adding friends.

Summary

The Simpsons: Tapped Out: TSTO is a great game and is brilliant in various areas like adding friends and gameplay. It is a shame that there are (and have been) so many various bugs that they need to iron out to make the game more efficient.

Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff: Quest for Stuff is also a great game because it too has great gameplay. It is also great that there are no major bugs yet that are stopping players, but it is a shame that you need a facebook account to add friends.

I hope you like my comparison between the games, do you think that I’m correct? Is there anything else you would have picked up on? Why not sound off in the comments below?

Keep Questing,

  1. Likeing the Simpsons tapped out more than Family Guy takes to long for progress on FG and clams are rare STO never had problem with glitches or game play friends everywhere FG I lost my friends and havent gotten them back yet game still new but STO way better right now

  2. I am enjoying the freshness of family guy at the present time although I am plagued by constant crashes to the point where I hesitate to start off any dialogue. I like the look of the buildings in fg, but as already commented on, the deco mode is a b*tch. I’m also absolutely loving that the humour from the show has been kept (couldn’t help but have a childish giggle at the description to madeleine’s boutique) and the game has come at a time when my interest in tsto is waning. I still love my tsto, but have just lost interest in it slightly at the moment, I can scarcely be bothered to collect the last 600 fps I need for the goofball, but I’m sure that will change in due course, and it is nice to go back to the “safety” of tsto. Only time will tell if fg has the same longevity as tsto. 🙂

  3. Hi guys. I’ve been checking your sites daily now for months so thought I should finally contribute now that it looks like I will end up playing both games 🙂
I started playing TSTO on its first launch on itunes and I still remember when it went down for about a month as the servers couldn’t cope so this seems relatively smooth considering the minor glitches its had so far.
When I first started playing this game I thought that it was going to be a bit of a con to try to force people to buy clams to speed up the search for items but so far I have found that I am finding rare items relatively faster than I expected.
Hopefully this keeps up and if it does I will continue to play it as I prefer to be a freemium player apart from a TSTO deal at Christmas that I drunkenly purchased 🙂

    • Glad you decided to join the conversation! 🙂
So far we are noticing a faster pace to collect the stuff from the full version than what was released on BETA, which is a very good thing! I mostly just enjoy that it keeps you using other characters in smart ways instead of just “farming” them after they’ve completed their main quest.
And hey at least you got a good deal at Christmas 🙂

  4. I don’t even want to compare the two. To me, they are seperate and both fun. I love both shows and that is what keeps me involved in both games. I feel a lot of TSTO players will have a hard time with FG because we have all accustomed ourselves to a certain game play. I have played many “town builders” and they are never going to be the same. I welcome the new ideas and can only hope that they can continue listening to the players as EA has with TSTO and build something great. I can already see so many references from old-new episodes and that gives me a lot of promise from TinyCo

  5. I like both shows, I have a N7 2nd gen and tsto crash on me every day at least 3 times, fgqfs haven’t crash on me yet, i dont like the fgqfs task window is too big and invasive, I still don;t know why each char has to have levels, kinda of annoying to grind for non common stuff, but I like the adult humor and better graphics, I know both are a game to tap-a-lot but those buildings that you have to tap every 2 mins or so are annoying.

Still both games are good, tsto has more time ergo more content I will love it way more if don’t crash on me so often.

    • Forgot to tell I love the “facebook” thing like South Park TSOT is hilarious. We can only add friends we have in facebook?

      Like

      • Yup, but currently the Facebook feature is disabled. So you won’t be able to add friends or visit neighbors (Except for Ollie) until it’s restored. (it’s been disabled because TinyCo tracked the Bruce glitch to the Social aspect of FGTQFS)

  6. I like Family Guy and The Quest For Stuff is an alright game but in my books The Simpsons will always be superior.

  7. I’ve played TSTO for almost a year now. The same old bugs are getting *really* old. I can almost never go through and assign everyone in my town a task without it crashing at least once. Support seems to not give a rip. I’ve been told to reinstall iOS, but it has happened on two different devices with two different iOS versions. And then there is the losing connection to the server…

FGQfS has so far been excellent. They probably don’t have the server load TSTO does, but so far I have only had a single instance of not being able to connect. It took a while to figure out what was going on game wise with collecting items, but had it mostly figured out by the time I found the description here. My only concern is how it determines which task gets a collected item if multiple tasks are waiting for it. And hopefully there will be another way to connect with friends other than FaceBook. Not going to do that.

    • Well for now, the Facebook social aspect is shut down for Family Guy. I know they are still looking at another way to socialize with friends too. That is the hardest thing for me too.

  8. Glitches aside, I did like Family Guy Game, I dont think I’ll ever like something as much as I like TSTO, unless I could get farther into Family Guy, I dunno. But, the little time I did play, it was really hard to move stuff around and while I like the collecting aspect, I hate the odds or chance component. I just recently started playing around with the 3D part of playing TSTO so I love that, there is so much I love about the Simpsons over family guy. but I do love there dialogue and the collecting and such, I just wish I could give it a fair chance by playing farther into the game. I have a feeling I loose interest before they fix it

  9. FG has a bunch of stuff to work out before I can give a good comparison. But, it’s like you said, TSTO had a bunch of stuff they’ve been continually working on and fixing and the game has really come a long way. I was glad to see Bruce back in my game (I still have to do the unlock quests but I’m waiting) and it seems to be working again in that respect. Thanks for the tinyco email addresss and questions. They responded quickly and I feel that they are working hard to get the rest of the kinks out. Only time will tell if is is a game I will be as invested in as TSTO. In the meantime, I’m loving my Springfield!

As an adult, I love the adult humor of FGTQFS! I remember when I discovered the show and can’t get enough of it. The Simpsons show is more nostalgia for me than anything else and the later seasons are blah. Only the couch gags have been good with ThE Simpsons recently. I did love the Kumiko episode since I love the movies of Miyazaki. Game wise, I like the ability to design my town with TSTO. I love the character tasks for FGTQFS, and I think that’s their selling point– the costumes for Peter alone are numerous and progression is fast, so is the humor, just like the show.

  11. Are their servers down now?

    • Are you still down for you? They may have just temporarily pulled them offline to run some tests to ensure the Bruce glitch, and other glitches, are fixed.

  12. Love TSTO. It’ll always be #1 no matter what. FGG has glitches. Major ones, I couldn’t play for a whole day (I hate Bruce now). Also the placement mode is horrible. Hope they change that. Anyways, TSTO is the best, the best, and the “bestest” (hope there was a higher degree of comparison). TSTO, I salute you.

  13. I’ve got 2yrs invested with TSTO so The Simpsons is most definitely #1 for me! TQFS is cool, but I’m just starting out, so it can have it’s boring moments (like playing fat guy leap frog every 6sec til I hit $2000 so I had money cuz they start you off with $0) I must say that was a shocker, most games give you money & premium cash when you start. All in all The Simpsons in my opinion is the best, but I grew up with them, watching every episode, so I may be a little biased!

  14. Lol u really should have edited this before putting it up there are no glitches in fg? There has been numerous posts on this very site about the glitches. But good comparisons between the 2. I vote for tsto atm. Maybe in a couple of patches fg will seem better but for now its tsto for me

    • I think he was eluding to no major glitches he saw himself. Many players did get by just fine without issue and still continue to play to this day with no bugs what so ever stopping them.

So it’s from his perspective. Everyone experienced it differently. Some smooth sailing. Some just Chris socks issue and right back up. Then some Bruce issue.

      • I want to ask Bunny herself. What do you think is better? TSTO or FGTQFS?

        • Too early to give my honest opinion. I started TSTO when it launched on Android. You need to remember it was a nightmare at first for Droid users. Many were locked out of their games and couldn’t play for like 2 months. I loaded the game in March. Actually started play in midst of Whacking Day. My other friends couldn’t get in and play til June/July.

I am used to new game hiccups. I have seen it time and time again, no matter who is launching or running it. Gotta work out the kinks. I am quite fond of TSTO for personal reasons and I grew up with it. I adore Family Guy due to Seth not afraid to just insult everyone and everything in sight. It speaks to my dark humor. Lol.

The concepts in FG are great. I do like the interactive Menu within the game and direct links to contact TinyCO. I like the animation. Each game has its pros and cons for me. I am having fun in TSTO with my 2D and 3D art. Don’t think It will work as well here. I do like that FG has actual pools, baseball fields, and other items I wish TSTO did.

Give me a month or two actually playing FG and getting a true feel for it. Then ask me again. (I do have to say, if TSTO gives me my easter…I am gonna hop all over that. Lol)

          • Great points Bunny, I like all the little things that FG has that TSTO don’t as well such as Bus stops, Parks, Pools and the different buildings like the Bank. Maybe The Simpsons can steal some stuff from Family Guy this time! I Need to play a lot longer before I know which I like best but will still play both anyway.
