Note From Bunny: This post was brought to you by the generous help of one of our very own Addicts Readers! Thanks!!
In this lil game of ours, it is easy to get lost and so focused into collecting items or unlocking characters that we tend to forget the lil things that make the game what it is. Like Where the HELL did these items come from and why are they in our games?
Well I am here to do just that for you. Let’s take a look at the Family Guy Series and find out just Where The HELL Did That Come From?
In this post, I will be covering the origin of Death’s Dog (for his character profile, click HERE; for his questline, click HERE). Why does he seem familiar? Did he show up in the Family Guy series? Why does he ask about choking on rolls when he’s tapped? Let’s take a look at the TV episodes to find out.
Season 3, Episode 9: Mr. Saturday Knight
The episode begins with career day at Chris’ school, where Mort is describing some of his customers to the class: “Danielle, your father had bad, very bad haemorrhoids that stung him unmerciful. Ugh, they were awful, they were like stinky little balloons, ugh. And I gave him some special ointment, and he hurt so bad that he had to apply it in a car with his sock… Thank you!” (“Cool, I wanna be a pharmacist!”).
However, Peter’s job of working at the toy factory gets a cold response, so he returns home upset. Lois suggests that Peter should invite Mr Weed over for dinner to show him what he has to offer the company; Peter agrees, but hopes it doesn’t go as badly as when they had Margot Kidder around for dinner…
Just before the dinner, Peter gets nervous, hoping he won’t blow it and have to go back to his old job at the electric company… “D”, “ot”, “dot.” “B”, “et”, “bet.” “I knew that, slow it down.” “P”, “it”, “pit.” “Come on pal, it’s my first day.” “F”, “at”, “fat.” “Oh that’s it, buddy!”
Once Peter regains his voice’s volume control, and the Griffin children go to bed (à la “So Long, Farewell”), the dinner seems to go well. Mr Weed is impressed with Peter’s family, home and “funny talking dog”, and offers him a promotion to Head of Toy Development.
Brian is so shocked that he chokes on his dinner roll, but when Peter saves him by performing the Heimlich manoeuvre, the roll flies into Mr Weed’s mouth, who then promptly chokes to death (which also explains why Mr Weed is a ghost in our games). While Peter tries to remain calm, a knock at the door announces “Police! Random dead body search.” Peter tells Lois to stall him while he elegantly disposes of the body…
Lois answers the door to find Death: “Ha ha, gotcha! It’s just me, Death. I’m here for the body?” “Peter, it’s ok, it’s just Death.” “Oh thank God.” Death’s Dog then makes his appearance: “Uh, hey, did someone choke on a roll in here?” Brian explains that he spit it up – and, with an “oh”, Death’s Dog leaves as quickly as he entered.
The rest of the episode focuses on Peter losing his job and following his dream of becoming a Renaissance fair jouster. And don’t worry, the dinner roll was taken into police custody…
You may also recognise Death’s Dog as an animated decoration from last year’s Ghostbusters Halloween event, where he could be won from the Dia De Los Muertos mystery box – and he also returned during the Best of 2014 event towards the beginning of this year.
There you have it, a quick appearance in one episode, and Death’s Dog is in our games… twice…
