This issue seems to occur when a quest comes up for a character who is currently stashed in the inventory. Keeping main characters out on your play space will prevent the issue. Event and premium characters shouldn’t be a problem to stash, unless you are in the middle of their quests.
Hang in there. Help is coming. The version will most likely be tagged 1.4.5 when they are able to get it completed and pushed to all players. Send in a screenshot if possible of your load screen with your message to help speed up the process.

Here are the basics of the American Dad Event…
HOW DO I START THE AMERICAN DAD EVENT?
Pretty simple here. You just need to reach District 3 game play. Peter will trigger it and start off with “A Shellebration“.
You will need to build the Clam Festival Stage for A Shellebration Part 1, it will only take 1 minute.
HOW DO I UNLOCK STAN SMITH?
He will unlock during “Clam Day Catastrophe” Part 1. (Shortly after “A Shellebration Part 2 Completes, Keep Peter and Bruce free for Part 2.) He comes in the Colonial Barn. Once built, you will need the following items to unlock him.
20 Black Sunglasses (Common): Bonnie Chug a Bottle of Wine, Mort Retreat Cowardly, Quagmire Mix Drinks
10 Photo Evidence (Uncommon): Jerome Grow His Fro, Colonial Barn, Rupert Chat on the Phone
8 Classified Documents (Rare): Bruce Fret About Something, Chris Enjoy Private Time, Smith House
5 Crash Debris (Rare): Lois Shoplift, Peter Dance the Shipoopi, Mort Scrounge for Coins, Jake Tucker Be Normal
For those wanting to know, a direct Clam buyout on him was 420 Clams in my game.
If you unlock him before the event ends, Stan is yours to keep forever. If you do not have him completely unlocked, he will disappear when the event ends.
ROGER’S CHALLENGE IS TIMED!!!!
HOW DO I CLEAR ROGER?
You first need to have Stan unlocked. Once he is unlocked you will be able to perform the “Hide Roger” 1hr task. Just keep an eye out for Roger in your town, once he shows up send Stan on the task. If he has not respawned yet, the task for Stan will be locked until he returns. (FYI, you can also just check Stan’s tasks. When his Roger task unlocks…Roger is in town again.)
WHAT IS ROGER’S SPAWN RATE?
You only get one Roger at a time (of course) and it will take him 4 hours to respawn.
HOW DO I WIN THE GIANT GOLDEN TURD CHALLENGE?
After Part 4 of “Clam Day Catastrophe“, a Challenge for Roger will appear. Stan will trigger it. “The Magic Drunken Clam: Challenge“. This one will be a timed Challenge, so make sure you are ready for it before you jump in. You will have 4 days in which Stan will need to clear Roger 10 times. Once you have successfully done this, the Giant Golden Turd will be placed in your inventory.
It is basically watching closely for Roger to Respawn and sending Stan on the task. A 4 hour Spawn Time wait for Roger, 1 hour task with them both, so allot yourself about 50+ hours to complete this. (So 4 days should be plenty time.)
NEW BUILDINGS (Some will not show up until you complete Shellebration Part 2)
Clam Festival Stage: 5×6, $500, $30 & 20 XP every 4hrs
Colonial Barn (w/Stan Smith): 7×8, $1500, $30 & 20 XP every 4hrs
Historical Clam Exhibition Hall: 5×8, $1000, $40 & 25XP every 6hrs
Smith House: 8×12, 100 Clams, $40 & 25XP every 6hrs, Classified Documents (ALWAYS)
NEW DECORATIONS (Some will not show up until you complete Shellebration Part 2)
Crop Circle: 9×9, $400
Area 51 (Sign): 1×2, $2000
Undercover American Flag: 2×2, 10 Clams

The task is completed. It just will not let me use roger as a playable character. How do I do a fired restart?

He is NOT a playable character…yet. That was only a Challenge to get the Golden Turd. Not Roger.
Roger for now will only pop in n out of the game and when he is there, Stan will have the task to hide him unlock.

I have unlocked Stan and cleared roger the 10 times but still has not unlocked roger as a playable character. I have no other tasks to complete. What’s the deal?

If you take a look at the info for Roger, you will see it was just a challenge…nothing to do with bringing him in game as a playable character. That will come later.

It varies. Thursday or Friday seem common. But…we have also seen Tuesday releases. Lol.

Any news on the “getplayarea” issue? I emailed TinyCo but have had no reply. I appreciate they’re busy, but some kind of message or information somewhere would be helpful. Unless I’ve missed something?

They have been sending emails back to all those impacted that wrote in. The fix is going to hit game wide (probably quicker and less time consuming then player by player). It is their main focus right now.

Thanks for that. I’ve been locked out for 5 days now and it’s a little frustrating. I haven’t had any response from them as yet, hopefully it won’t be to much longer. With a bit of luck they might give us some help catching up with the rest of you.

Yeah, I noticed it. Started the Roger quest around 6 PM and as of now, have cleared him four times.

Day 3 of PlayArea bug. I’ve emailed help@tinyco, added the acct #, responded to the automated system, added the acct #, now have three different emails from tinyco (help, support, and the specific generated support for my ticket), replied to all three of THOSE with the acct #. Still no human response, no update to game, no ability to play the game.

Give them time. Skeleton crew on the weekends. It is only 730AM there right now, so the office is not even open. Technical issues take time. They will get it fixed as fast as they can. I will report if I hear anymore on it. Hang in there. I know it is rough not being able to play, just wait. They will get it fixed. 🙂

I came back to this post to confirm we only need to reach District 3 to start the American Dad event. I’m almost there in my little side game I’m playing while waiting for the PlayArea fix. Will be funny if I get the Smiths in this game before I’m able to access my “real” game again!

Anyone else struggling with getting classified documents? I have 18/20 sunglasses, 8/10 photos, 3/5 debris, but 0/8 documents despite continually running Chris and Bruce on those tasks.

Is the Smith House used in any tasks?
I typically don’t buy buildings that drop items to unlock characters. However, if it is needed for any known tasks, I’ll buy it immediately and have it help unlock Stan since the Classified Documents are a bottleneck.

Agree! 100 Clams for the family’s house is the worst rip off! It’s steeling the heart and background of the family! Well I guess the Smiths will have to sleep in the barn, the Griffins house is already overstaffed by other homeless people from other events

Slight rant here. I feel like Stan should have come with the Smith house and they make the barn the premium content instead of the other way around. I am lucky that I made a few hundred clams during the Halloween event. What is the point of having the Smith family if you don’t get their house and only giving 10 clams for completing them is a ripoff (unless they all come free).
That said, I would honestly rather we get a full American Dad game instead of throwing them into Family Guy. If Roger does not do the “Cilantro” dance, I am gonna be extremely upset. Cuz’, y’know. . . El perro, es mi corazón.

They aren’t using the event zone, and they like to kick of events with buildings, so the barn is a good way to introduce Stan. The Smith’s don’t actually live in Quahog, so I’m happy to do without the house I can’t afford anyway.
As far as an AD game, you
should really be happy to be getting this much. When a tv show moves to TBS, it’s not exactly considered upward movement 😉

I agree. I think American Dad could sustain its own game. I love both shows and I love crossover events, but having the Smith home in Quahog seems out of place. And while I also loved the Halloween event, I would really like to finish the plutonium quest.

I love American Dad so I’m really excited about this event! I’m disappointed the Smith House is 100 clams though. If it ends up dropping items needed for other characters then it’ll be more worth it. I agree they should drop the price! I’ll probably end up getting it either way. I can already tell the Classified Documents are going to take the longest. American Dad should definitely have its own game! 😄

I love the new scrolling function when you touch on a building like the Drunken Clam, to see who and how much time, etc. I thought the game was malfunctioning by not showing the characters. The old way was a PITA!

So, last night before I went to sleep sent all my characters on actions, that would earn items towards unlocking Stan Smith. I also started the build for the barn. As I slept I had a dream… I dreamt that I woke up and finished the farm building and Stan was unlocked. So when I woke up for real, I automatically check off all the actions that I thought were going towards unlocking Stan…I then began smacking my head and flavored air came forth from the hole in my face! On a plus side I get to have peter shipoopi more than I intended to…

Rare items are the bane of my FGQFS existence. I’ve had two characters doing a job to get a single rare item (unrelated to this event) twice every day each for a whole week, and nothing. At this rate I suspect it’s going to take the entire event time before I can unlock Stan (if I can do it at all), since he has *13* rare items.

It all really seems to focus on what it takes you to unlock them on how payouts work. More expensive or clams used equal a higher payout. More time consuming or difficulty factor too.

This event is essentially a big commercial for AD being paid for by TBS. What better way to remind people to tune in every week than to have the characters running around in our game? They want every player to have a full set of the Smiths. they just can’t give them away cause then they wouldnt seem special. 😉

Yeah but look how much they all cost. The house is only 100 clams. Would u rather they give u 25 clams when u collect everyone but then charge u 200 clams for their house and maybe some other characters too. 10 clams is fine with me as long as everyone they’re planing to sell to get that is under 100 clams it’s a deal to me.

Do you know if the timed Roger challenge has to be completed this week? Or does the four day limit roll on to next week if you start it late?
(Can’t see me getting the Photo Evidence to unlock Stan until the end of Tuesday as I’ve stupidly sent Jerome off until Monday morning. I may have to spend clams to free him.)

Already liking this event 10 times better than the Halloween/Comic-Con/Egypt themed events. At least so far, it’s more straight forward and easy to follow. There’s not 100 little theme specific things roaming around the streets, no theme specific new currency to earn, no theme specific ‘dashboard’ to open and keep track of 10 different things, etc. Plus the added benefit that the game doesn’t crash nearly as often as it was…it was getting to the point of I was going to just stop playing altogether as it was impossible to play for more than a few minutes without the game crashing in one of three random ways (straight to the home screen, to the home screen with an error message or just freezing up the device completely). When it comes to future events I would urge the devs to stick to smaller scale types and avoid the huge, super complicated, overly frustrating type events that hog memory and crash devices.

Nope. Some people just visually look out for things, but yes…you can just keep checking Stan’s tasks. When it shows Roger unlocked, he is back. 🙂

how long does it take to build the colonial barn with stan?
I’m almost done with Bruce’s super long kittin pickin task and I’m wondering if I should send characters to atleast get on the 8 hr tasks so maybe by the time the barn is built, they might be close to finishing the drop tasks

My roommate (ios user) has been getting the commercials for free clams opportunity as well as Carl’s in town prompts whereas I (android user) have not had either. I have updated the game in the play store as recent as yesterday and I’m currently building the barn to get Stan whereas he (the roommate) is still kitten picking, the prerequisite to building the barn. Are there others not receiving the commercial for clam opportunity as well, am I missing something to prompt those, or is it platform based like Slimer visiting Quahog was in the last event?
