There’s No Place Like Quahog 101: Flying Monkeys

I guess it’s true what they say. It’s all fun and games until the flying monkeys show up, lol.

I know these winged marauders have terrified many a child who’s found themselves over the rainbow, but  fear not as I’m going to help you find the courage to beat these Flying Monkeys, and believe me when I say it that what TinyCo have come up with to help us is truly bananas.

With so much going on in the first day or two of an event I know you all feel like you’re in the eye of a storm as a tornado of information is thrown your way, but we’re here to break it down so you can follow the yellow brick road without worrying about all that monkey business.

Winged Monkeys

So let’s take a closer look at the new content released in Week 1 of There’s No Place Like Quahog and see exactly what it takes to get these monkeys off our backs.

For more information on the Event, go HERE

They are the lesser of the two evils hitting the event this week, and in order to be able to start seeing them in Quahog you will need to be at Pt. 2  of the Main Questline Once Upon A Rainbow. It’s here you will be instructed to Learn About Flying Monkeys. Clicking Go will bring up some very basic instructions on how to clear them from your town.

At this point you will also have triggered the ability to collect the bananas needed to shoo away a flying monkey.

Flying Monkeys tend to hover around your roads, so if you’re not seeing them they might be hiding on a piece of road behind a building. I’ve only two small strips of road just now and the monkeys fly between them, much to my amusement.

You don’t need to do anything apart from reach Pt. 2 of the main Questline, Once Upon A Rainbow. As soon as you get to that part they will automatically appear in Quahog for you to find. I immediately saw 5 in my town, so this looks like the max. Once a Flying Monkey was cleared  a replacement landed about 2 hours later in my game. Flying Monkeys look like this.

You will need to collect 1 Banana to train a Munchkin into a Banana Munchkin to shoo away a Flying Monkey. Try saying that when you’ve had a few drinks!!!

Bananas (Common): Joe Shop For Produce OR Herbert Eat Soft Foods OR Quagmire Go Bananas OR Jerome Make Like a Banana OR Jumbo Lollipop Shop OR Munchkinland Mini Mart

You need 1 banana to train 1 Banana Munchkin. Once you have a banana you need to go to the Munchkin Academy, it’s in the event area and looks like this.

The exclamation mark above the Munchkin Academy denotes that there are training spaces available.

Training Spaces: There are 6 training spaces available, this is the maximum Banana Munchkins you can train at anyone time, but I was only able to fill 4 of these with the bananas at my disposal,  but at this point the amount of spaces isn’t an issue.

Capacity: You will see the academy capacity in the top right corner, you will see the capacity of the Munchkin Academy at this time is 8, this means you can only have a total of 8 created and/or Banana Munchkins in training at any time. If your capacity is showing full, then you can free up capacity by using some of your Banana Munchkins to shoo some Flying Monkeys.

The training academy looks like this when Banana Munchkins are in training.

When a Banana Munchkin has completed its training you will see the check mark above your training academy. It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to train each Banana Munchkin.

Clicking on the check mark will complete the training and provide you with a Banana Munchkin, ready for you to unleash on those pesky Flying Monkeys.

Once you have a Banana Munchkin simply look around Quahog for a Flying Monkey, tap it and this will bring up the launch screen.

Simply drag your Banana Munchkin over to a Flying Monkey, you will know it’s in the target when you see the Flying Monkey turn purple within a green circular target, once it’s targeted quickly tap the tick to shoo away the Flying Monkey. You’ll see the Flying Monkey jump on the Banana Munchkin and disappear in the little puff of goodies they drop.

The rewards you get will vary. Flying Monkeys drop the following:

Per Flying Monkey Cleared:
1 Floppy Hat (Common) – needed to unlock Scarecrow Peter
1 Straw (Uncommon) – needed to purchase items from the Fallen Farmhouse
2 Emeralds (Always) – needed to purchase items from the Fallen Farmhouse)

***Please note that Floppy Hats won’t show as a drop until you’ve placed the Cornfield in your game***

There you have it, all the facts about Flying Monkeys. Don’t seem so fearsome now you know a Munchkin dressed as a banana can shoo them away eh? What are your thoughts? Have you started to clear any yet? If so, are you enjoying this silly addition to our games? Any other tips for fellow Players? Let us know.

  1. Same issue with the 4 slots only – they should really darken those last 2 (or put a lock graphic) if they are not going to be available yet. Agreed that it is not an issue yet, just a poor layout design if this is their true intent for now…

  2. They have a note in the faq about it now. Only four banana munchkins can be trained at once. The other slots will open up later. But you can have four trained ones wandering around while you’re training four. That’s what the eight capacity means.

My problem is no straw dropped by monkeys in quite a while… An uncommonly uncommon drop at the moment.

It seems easiest to move the purple-making spot to get a little ahead of a monkey and let it fly into it to be purplified. They are rather fast to leave the spot.

Also it doesn’t look to me like the banana munchkins are shooing anybody away – they’re hapless bait! The monkey grabs the munchkin and flies off with him! Does the monkey eat the poor munchkin?!? Oh, the horror!!!! A dark and twisted tale.

    • The monkeys do what evil monkeys do. Swoop down n snatch people. Lol.

FYI… I noted in main post only 4 usable for now. Very common for queue and capacity to increase as event progresses. 🙂

  3. I am having trouble with the monkeys now. After I touch one of them (once they are purple), the game then always pauses for about 5 seconds. Just long enough for the super fast [insert name-calling here] monkeys to take off again. I just wasted two Banana Munchkins trying to (no thanks to the pausing game) get a Flying Monkey.. Is anyone else having trouble with the game pausing once you touch a monkey?

As for my Clam TV, I have no idea if the problem I was having (being unable to exit after watching a video – thanks to there no longer being an x to exit with), as Clam TV has not shown up in my game in over 48 hours anyway. This is the longest amount of time I have not seen it appear in. Maybe this was their way of “solving” the problem, just simply remove it from the game? Not sure.

    • Try attracting them to a single bit of road with nothing around it. I know not perfect solution if your town is neat and has a road system, but it will give your device breathing space. Even have 2 bits of road a little apart so the monkeys separate, not so much animation on the screen then.

Clam TV often disappears for a few days for me but then comes back, I’m always happy to see it. 😀

  4. Annoyingly I wasn’t paying attention and placed two munchkins without them being in the radius of a monkey – they were wasted. 😦

  5. I have 8 guys to use but my game crashes everytime I go to get a flying monkey, sucks

  6. RT,
Like you, I was only able to train 4 bananas as well. Seems strange when the capacity total is 8 and there are 6 training spaces.
Other than that small bit of confusion, so far so good.
    Thanks for your information!

  7. I’m having trouble, I’m training 4 as we speak, I have 2 empty slots and 2 bananas and I have used my munchkins that I trained before. When I tap on train for my empty 2 slots, it ask me to clear the ones training now for clams. Why can’t I use my 2 free slots?

  8. Howard Greenberg

Great job, thanks. I have been a writer for 30 years and you, my friend, are very good. Cheers!

  9. Yes, the monkeys and munchkins are very cute! Is the only way to get water stuff to beat the wicked witch (in order to get the dress shoes needed for Dorothy Lois) by getting Toto Brian or Scarecrow Peter?

  10. I was unable to train more than 4. I hit train and instead it asks me if i want to speed the queue up for 42 clams.
