Hello There Clammers!
Looks like the circus has arrived in Quahog as we’ve received a special update in our games today. (the first content update/ Event to The Quest for Stuff) More details on this coming just as soon as I go through the update myself 🙂
Here are a few basics:
WARNING SPOILERS BELOW THE FOLD
Here’s the dialog that kicks off the update:
Peter starts
Peter: Hey, the circus is in town! Let’s throw pies at the clowns like we’re in on their bit!
Chris: I’ll do it! You’re a terrible influence, but you’re still my father so I crave your approval!
With this you’ll see that clowns have invaded Quahog and you have to help Chris Splat 10 Clowns!
Clowns will spawn every hour to every 4hrs (depending on clown type). You can have only 3 clowns of first type and 2 clowns of second type at once in town. Collect 10 Clowns to get the materials to unlock a new costume for Peter, Pee Pants Inebriated Hobo Clown:
To unlock Pee Pants you’ll need:
60 Cotton Candy (Get From: Cotton Candy Stand, Common 100% odds)
40 Pies (Get From: Clown Tent, Common 100% odds. Also, from clearing clowns)
15 Horns (Get From: Guess Your Weight Machine. Also, from clearing clowns)
Other new stuff from this update:
Non-Premium:
Circus Fence- $25
Cotton Candy Stand- $500…. Earns $1, 1xp and drops Cotton Candy every 1m (Limit THREE per Quahog)
Test Your Strength- 25 Clams NOTE: This has been changed this now costs $1,000
Premium:
Clown Tent- 100 Clams….. Earns $30 and 20xp and drops clown horn every 4hrs
Ferris Wheel- 250 Clams
Guess Your Weight Game- 100 Clams…. Earns $10, 5xp and drops pie every 1hr
Ring of Fire- 125 Clams
Airplane Ride- 50 Clams
This is a limited time event that ends SUNDAY 5/4…so be sure to get all you want prior to the 4th 🙂

Overall, the circus event was a big disappointment. Unclear communication, technical glitches w clowns not spawning, and only One character can move progress forward? That’s a recipe for a PR nightmare. Other game developers are crystal clear up front about how long special content is available (will say ends 9pm PST for example) so players can plan if/ when they can participate. I only ever had one clown at a time, tried to work w it but gave up after seeing the ominous splash screen about circus leaving. That was another opportunity for Tinyco to communicate, and they failed. This seemed like a total money grab. I play because friends do, but if this is how they plan to run updates I don’t know how long I’ll stick around.

Oh .. and now that the event has been extended.. I have 3 pie clowns and 1 horny clown roaming my city.. wheras when event started.. they wouldn’t build up.. still I got everything without shelling out clams (pun intented)

enough of the clowns already! I’ve collected everything.. have pee pants costume. When will the freaking clowns stop spawning.. Chris has been tied up for days clearing these circus freaks.. I’m tired of them and now Chris is to and finally enjoying private time. When will the madness end?

It was a hard slog, but I did manage to get pee pants after waking myself up at 3am to get the last horn I needed (addicted?), am just starting to wonder when the event is actually going to finish though, as it’s noon UK time and it’s all still active…?

It looks like it’s been extended. For how long, I don’t know. But I’m glad you were able to get it. Not glad that you had to wake up at 3am to do so.

Is it just me or do the clowns always seem to spawn at the left most part of road in my city (and then start walking around the map)? If so I can just keep my screen there waiting for them instead of searching the whole town 🙂

I got the last of my clowns around 2:10am EST, and of course Peter was already doing a task so can’t try it out till later. I did enjoy this update but wish it didn’t require clams for all the cool looking stuff but I’ll survive and keep hoarding my precious clams since they are so few and far between. Now back to grinding away to unlock Brian it’s a lot of work but gonna be worth it cause whose a good boy, he’s a good boy.

Actually, unlocking Brian seemed a bit easier than Rambo Lois proves to be. I keep sending her on the martial arts practice task (the only object missing to complete the costume) and it’s indeed a very rate item… 😦

Yea, it’s a hard one. At least it’s a costume and not an actual direct character. So you can still earn money etc with out it. And (if it’s accurate) it looks like when they open they next district there may be another character that can help earn headbands. But at this point the next district still isn’t available and we’re not sure when they play the update for.

That is so very true Marc and if/when I unlock Rambo Lois I’m gonna buy a lotto ticket, cause its a super extra rare don’t look at the screen when you tap hoping you finally got it item, lol. I need 4 bones, and 10 first editions for Brian but only need 2 headbands to unlock Rambo Lois but my money will still be on Brian unlocking first.

I have been doing pretty well on the circus update, but today I have not been able to get into the game. An error box keeps showing up. Something about a json file? What gives??

If you are getting an error, my suggestion is to attempt to get a screenshot of it and contact TinyCo so they know there is an issue.
You are also welcome to send the image to us to have a look at it so we can try to assist as well.

Well, I must admit that this wasn’t too hard to manage as a freemium player except for some level of persistence. I got a slow start because Peter and Chris were on long tasks when the event started. But I managed to get it nailed to one clown missing at 9.30pm (GMT+1) and went to bed. When I woke up a bit after midnight, I briefly checked for the clown and completed the job.

This is a BAD start for TinyCo. I never saw more than 2 clowns at a time, and it was usually 4 hours between clown appearances. The only fair thing to do right now is to extend the event.

I JUST got my last clown for the Pee Pants outfit, but Long John Peter is currently being created & won’t be done until tomorrow. PP only takes 5 sec. to make so, if I don’t create this outfit tonight before midnight will I be able to create it tomorrow when LJP is complete?

I’m not sure on this. I think once the event ends, if you haven’t created it, it will disappear. But I can tell you it looks like the event has been extended so hopefully that’ll give you enough time to create it. 🙂

I need 3 pies and 2 horns to get this costume. I didn’t buy any of the items because I didn’t want to spend the money. Other than sleeping, I play many times a day. I will be disappointed if I don’t get the new costume. I feel like its being punished for not spending real money.

I’m sorry you feel that way. We’ve seen plenty of players just play every couple of hours manage to unlock the costume at this point. My suggestion to you is to write your thoughts on the update down in our Good, Bad & Ugly Post for TinyCo to see. The Director of the game, Matt, is personally going through that post and comments, and taking notes and responding to player feedback. That’s ultimately the best way to get your opinion out.

Ok, so probably not gonna get all the pies & horns. Question: do I have to buy/make/create the PeePants costume before the end of event? (Tonight?) Or once it’s available in the store, which it is, I’ve unlocked it, can I buy it later? I guess I’m asking if the event ends & I haven’t made him the clown costume yet, will it disappear? Thanks!

I’m fairly certain once the event ends, if you haven’t built it, it will disappear. But at this point it’s just a guess. We won’t know until the event actually ends. I can tell you though it looks like the event has been extended (we’re not sure how long). So keep trying and see if you can get enough to create the costume. 🙂

Alissa, thank you for this site & your responses! I did break down & used clams to make him, just in case. However, I had to make a deal w my SO that it was VERY important & won’t become a habit… lolz. The 1st of the month knocked me out, or I’d have just kept him out of it. 🙂 Some more clowns did spawn, but not enough to make goal. I keep the game running on my tablet & constantly check in on it; at work, home, during naptime, waiting for an oil change… It’s like having a kid! Lolz! No, srsly.
I do wish they’d announced the extension. I don’t mind contributing from time to time to a game I enjoy playing. But I’m not able to spend RL $ on it as much as they ask. (Like many other players.) It would have been nice to use those clams on Consuela; which I would have, had I known about the extension of the event. Or at least gotten more clowns to lower the cost a bit. Again, I don’t mind the once in a while contribution. I feel like, “Hey they created a free game, let’s pay their bills when I’m able & get some fun stuff.”

The clowns DO NOT build up!! and because of that most will not finish getting the required items needed to unlock Peter’s outfit unless you spend real money. If this is a glitch then it needs to be fixed and the event re-ran or extended if this is a ploy to get more money then This game will FAIL and further tarnish the name of FAMILY GUY!

According to TinyCo there was a max of 2 clowns per town because of limitations on the technical side of things.

If the tech side of this event was limited maybe TinyCo should have waited to release it. I was lucky. Because my DH’s recovering rotator cuff was bothering him on Sun. we were forced to cancel our plans which allowed me to devote more time to pie-ing clowns. Otherwise there was NO way I could of cleared enough clowns to get the Pee Pants outfit.

It’s hard to say when it comes to a tech thing. If they waited until everything is perfect the game would never be released. There are always going to be glitchs and issues because you can’t truly predict how something is going to work when millions of people are playing off the server. It can’t be duplicated until you have millions of people playing off the server.
As far as the spawn number. I think it was reasonable, but people asking for more might be something they do in the future. They’ll have to enhance the game space to do that. It’s something they couldn’t predict until the event was in process, so it’s reason like that why they ask us to do the feedback posts so they can know where to make enhancements for next time. 🙂

I’m never going to make this event. I wake from 8 hrs sleep and only 2 clowns. One for the pie and one for the horn.
And I had put Chris on the 24 hr sugar quest and used 22 clams when I realized I needed him for the event. I had started him on this quest but the “time freeze glitch” caught me yet once again. Is there a fix coming soon? Thanks.

The time freeze usually means your town didn’t save properly. Make sure you only close your town from inside your own town, not from a neighbor’s. Also, make sure you use the home button to close your town. If you’re experiencing it often try closing your town out, wait a few min then jump back in to ensure the clock is moving.

Hi Alissa, I always close the game from the main screen even before I read of this fix on this forum. I’m still having the issue randomly. I’m at Level 19 and play fairly frequently…and this issue shouldn’t be happening.
And as I said in my prior post, I’m never making this special. I was just away for 4 hours. I come back to 2 clowns. I have a life outside this game and won’t keep it open constantly just because a function isn’t working properly. I’m at top level SImpsons Tapped Out but EA has become all about money.
Many times I’ve paid 50 bucks for a Wii game…but it never ends with these “fremium” games. When is enough, enough for games that don’t work as intended?

We understand your frustrations, please understand that ALL games when first launched do indeed have their glitches. TSTO, Angry Birds, on and on and on…there is no way for anyone to tell how a game will function until it is launched. That being said, TinyCOohas been AMAZING in their customer relations. Their feedback and willingness to work to resolve issues for their players is outstanding. If you feel you have an issue or a glitch they are NOT EA. Just give them a contact. You can do it right within the game. Even our main point of contact, the Director at TinyCo is on our blog responding to readers. (TinyMatt) He is THAT involved. Instead of giving this game a sentence based off of other games, give them a chance to show what they CAN do.
Just contact them. If there is an issue…they will help to resolve it and make it right. They are VERY involved. NOTHING like EA at all.

I was on the verge of bailing on this game because it was moving so slow and there was so little interactivity. But this update has really upped the enjoyment factor. I even broke down and bought a Crate of Clams for $19.99 as a tip to the TinyCo crew. I know I’ve logged dozens of hours on this already, so it works out to pennies per hour of a pleasurable mental break for me. I’m not one of the “I’m not paying for pixels” people, I see it as no different than dropping $20 in a bar for an hour’s worth of leisure, and comparatively, this is a hell of a lot cheaper!
Anyway, I was able to get Peter’s clown costume last night and it is well worth the effort. I had first purchased Cotton Candy Stand, the Test Your Strength and some fencing, and then found myself wanting to build the circus site up from those spare beginnings. So I bought the Clown Tent and Guess Your Weight Game, and that really speeded up the pies and horns, unlocking Pee Pants. The Airplane Ride looks pretty cool, so I added that, but the Ferris Wheel is just too pricey for something that has no character interaction. I was also going to pass on the Ring of Fire, until I saw that Pee Pants has an associated task, and it’s hilarious!
Pea Pants jumps through the flaming hoop, which causes his clothes to disappear, leaving him standing there naked. He then throws up on the ground and his pile of vomit turns into the clown costume, and the animation repeats. Hilarious!
Three complaints:
– When you tap the Test Your Strength game, it visually rings the bell, but there’e no bell-ring sound. How hard is it to make the bell ring? Lame.
– Ferris Wheel costs way too much for something that doesn’t have a character task
– even after Peter gets the Pee Pants costume, clowns are still generated but you get nothing at all for having to keep clearing them. How about a free clam? Or at least some $ or XP! Just another part of the limited and minimal playability of this game so far.

I’m so frustrated. Yes I’m an idiot I have spent money to get claims and yet when game updated I only had 33/40 pies so now in order to get clown Peter I have to spend 70 claims.completely ridiculous. I’m addicted to playing; seriously every free moment and spent more than I ever realized I could have just went out and bought the family guy games for play systems would have been cheaper..needless to say feel cheated. I see a lot of people that knows a lot about this game…will I have the chance again? I refuse to spend anymore real money and waste my time if the game is going to keep mind f@#$ing me. If someone could please answer my question I would greatly appreciate it.Thanks in advance.

Don’t spend clams on Pee Pants. More than likely TinyCo will be bringing items that drop the required items back into the game. Just have to sit tight and be patient 🙂

Clowns spawn at a reasonable rate they’re just not instant. Every hr to 4 hrs for them. You didn’t need to purchase premium if you played often. You can check out this post: and this post for more.

This is crap. I haven’t had Chris on missions all day, and I have been checking every 1 to 2 hours. I have had THREE pie clowns today. There is no way to finish this witout paying real money.

Are you smashing them immediately or letting them build up? Chris on a task or not has nothing to do with the clowns spawning. He’s just the only one that can clear them.

I’d say the two things this update needs are less premium items, like make the two pie/horn earning buildings be free since they are pretty dull. Make people spend there money on flashy things like the Ferris wheel or the air plane ride. The second thing is that they have to make sure that all people can actually get the main prize without spending money. With those things I think it would be an excellent update.

Clowns are not appearing like they should be… One or two clowns appear every 3-4 hours instead of the posted spawn times. Getting the horns will be impossible now as there is never more that one of each clown type in town no matter how much time has passed. They seriously need to test events before them make them go live. And blatant attempts to “make” players spend money will only lead to the game die off. Just look at the Family Guy MMO.

the chris and peter quest turns into a 12 hr quest so becareful not to tie up chars ..money is easy in this game to make and so are clams if your smart and don’t waste em .save up to 50 and double workforce makes difference.also the clown costume is possible to do by sunday 00.00 if that’s the time limit .so far I have 18 pies and 8 horns

Well first, im really excited to see a special event in Quahog! Even though clowns creep me out, I do want that costume for Peter. It seems tight to make it before sunday considering its the weekend I have other things to do than play on my phone. Im a bit disapointed that almost all items related to this event are premium. My money is all tied up in donuts, cant do it.

I hate to say it but I’ve pretty much bailed on TSTO. I’ll go back but the Easter update was pretty meh for me. I need to redecorate anyway. The FG game has a lot going for it but a few tweaks are needed. I agree with a lot of people here in that they have to back off the making people spend money thing. I’ve put about $40 in but that’s really no big deal to me. I am not buying everything because a lot of it is not a good value proposition. Still hate myself for buying the whale in TSTO. Not everyone has a lot of discretionary income and they need to build the player base. Think They’re making some mistakes here…
BTW I’m glad to see what I believe is another Quebecer in here :-). I’m a former Montreal myself and miss la belle province.

There is no way to unlock this outfit without spending a minimum of $10. After you get the 10 clowns for your mission they don’t respawn. The only other way to get the needed items is to buy premium items. I really like this game and am unfortunately addicted to it….but it’s incredibly frustrating to not be able to get these things without spending real money. They need to find a way to earn clams, other than the one or two per week we can find in friends towns.

The clowns will still respawn after you’ve finished the 10 clown quest. You just have to find them in your town and tap on them to clear them. If you follow the advice in this post you should be good to go 🙂

Debating if I should even bother trying for this since Chris is busy bouncing round my screen on his sugar high for the next few hours and as it’s over the weekend when I find myself playing less. These games pass the time at work better 😉

I’m with everyone here! I’m sick of being forced or asked to buy clams. I’m going to stick with The Simpsons tapped Out and Boom Beach. Neither game forces you to pay a dime.. Although I have in both games it’s nice not to be reminded or have tasks forcing me to spend my hard earned cash.. There is a lot in Family Guy game that bugs me.. It’s sad b/c the wife and I were so looking foreword to having fun and playing it and both of us are most likely just going to stop if it keep up this way.. 😦

By Sunday? Seems really tight there…but we will see. I’ve liked this game so far, but everything seems more expensive here than in TSTO, and I seem to remember getting donuts in TSTO easier than acquiring clams…just saying. But the game is hella addictive.

Extremely annoyed that they added so much premium stuff. And the fact that you need premium items to gather the items other than splatting clowns is a little stupid as well. Also, in my character shop, on the far right is mayor west and the city hall, was that there before? Because his icon isn’t on facespace and I don’t remember it being there at the start

Nope it wasn’t there before. Although in my game City Hall is there but Peter is the character. Most likely just prepping for future content. 🙂
The Cotton Candy Stand will give you plenty of Cotton Candy (guaranteed every minute) but I know what you mean about the other items.

That is odd that it’s showing Peter’s character in Mayor West at City Hall. Must be a mistake on their part. At the rate that the bones and books are dropping to unlock Brian (it will be awhile since I need 14 of each plus the mistake on TinyCo’s part where you can get bones from clearing bulls which require Brian to do; hope Tiny Co fixes this soon– either lower the number of bones needed or add another task in its place).

I’m in the same boat as you with this. I know the cotton candy will drop every minute from the stand, as long as you’re in the game, but I know it might be difficult to get the pies. But 1 does drop with every clown (Either a pie or a horn). We’ll have to see where everyone is by the weekend.

Yeah, assuming we have about 48 hours with the 4 hour clown spawn for horns, you’ll only end up with 13 out of 15 if you tap exactly right (one right at the start and one every 4 hours) and that assumes your awake most of the time so you can also get the 40 pies. Even with a clown tent that number would only jump to 26, and if you assume we need sleep, with the tent you’ll barely have enough items.

You can get a maximum of 3 cotton candy stands. I don’t know about the tent or guess your weight game.

Hi, is there any way to stop a task without paying clams? My Chris just started eating sugar & that is a full 24 hours. I tried putting away the house to stop the task but it won’t let me. Do I just have to wait the full 24 hours?

Ouch, while I understand TinyCo wants you too buy premium currency, creating a quest that only last about 48 hours without warning and forcing those who happened to start something long like that to miss half of them is kind of painful.

Do you know when on Sunday this will end? Hope it is midnight; otherwise it is a bit tight to earn enough for the free costume for freemium players, especially if you want to work and sleep in between playing 😉

Cool, without unlocking Quagmire, I was only able to purchase the cotton candy cart. Oh well, another source of income, can’t complain!
My Peter is in the midst of a long task so I’ll see in 4hrs if I can pop clowns at this early stage of the game, with only Peter, Bonnie, and Quagmire’s houses in my city.

Unfortunately I guess not. Peter is free and while I was able to purchase the cotton candy cart and my free tile is quite festive, no text pops up and there are no clowns.

Try unlocking Harrington’s Outfit (District 3) as you are essentially unlocking an outfit for Peter

Thanks, but seeing as how much people are saying it’s going to be tough to finish by Sunday, I’ll stick to my strategy of not unlocking Quagmire yet until I earn $160k from 6sec spurts of Peter and Chris Fat Leapfrogging and Bonnie Bake Saling. Maybe after the Easter event in TSTO, I’ll have some time to give to FGTQFS. But for now, my Quahog is lucky if I can give it 10min a day.
