Road to Bollywood – Review & How Did You Do? Poll

It was one of those hip shaking, belly busting, blink and you’ll miss it events. But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to hear how you got on in the Road to Bollywood Event. So addicts was it Bollywood or Bust in your games, are you sitting feeling blessed by the Gods or sat wondering why Ganesha has forsaken you in this mini event.

Remember these polls are really just to share how we all did. personally I was in the Hurray for Bollywood camp when this event appeared, as I love it when Brian and Stewie go on their road trips in the TV show. So a mini-event giving more than a nod to Road to India had me shaking my hips. But like many of you by the end I was left shaking my head as this was another tough event.

So once again, I loved the concept, loved the content but for the third event in a row, well they do say bad luck comes in threes, it was just too hard. I get pay or play, I really do, you either put in the time, or put in the dime if you want it all, but even that’s not working in the game anymore, drops have become way too random and unpredictable and really I’m beginning to think progress is more down to luck than anything. Now I admit I play a lot, and I spend clams as and when I feel like it, but even I’m struggling. Yes I unlocked Belly Dancer Stewie and Ganesha but did so by the skin of my teeth. And whereas I used to feel a buzz when I unlocked a new character, I now think, thank Ganesha that’s over.

So what did I like, well actually I loved the 2 new character costumes available and for some reason that I’ll probably never understand, I desperately wanted that pink drumming elephant God for my Quahog. But I kind of wish they’d had Padma as a character, after all she was the reason that Bollywood collided with Quahog in the first place. But I must admit I will never complain about having another guise for Stewie as he’s my main man in the game. Without him, I’d be gone.

I loved the Taj Mahal, and but for TinyCo announcing the extension AFTER the event ended I would have got it, but like most other players I used up all my rupees as TinyCo had earlier stated the event would end as extended. Disappointing, but I’ll live.

So what did I like and dislike, well if you want to know read on, if you don’t scroll to the poll at the bottom. Hey guys, stop scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, lol.

FORMAT:
Another mini-event, which although came hot on the heels of two hectic events, should have been hip shaking good fun. But maybe it would have benefitted from being a 2 week event, which could have seen Padma brought in in Week 2 and of course Ganesha would then have been a 2 week unlock. But I’m keen on more mini-events but not one on top of the other like this.

CONTENT:
More Family Guy TV show linked content. Belly Dancer Stewie, Tiger Brian and Ganesha have all appeared in the TV show so plenty of Family Guy content to keep us happy.

EXCHANGES:
After the Quahog’s Not So Silent Night and Best of 2016 events there were none, thank you TinyCo.

DROPS:
Too many rare drops being used for a mini-event. Way too many being used full stop to be honest. The common drop has also become very random in my game, whereas it used to drop 9 times out of 10, now it’s way less. This made gathering offerings for Ganesha way too slow and unpredictable.

BOSS BATTLES:
In the past their has been complaints the big Boss is impossible to defeat at the higher levels, TinyCo seemed to be addressing this, but this was certainly a return to that issue. Even purchasing the premium shrine for extra drops, this Boss would been tough to hit at 5X. With 3 different offerings and guess work as to which offering you should build up for each attack, well it just took us back to the bad old boss days.  The rewards weren’t that generous either at the lower levels attacks, a major stumbling block when players couldn’t get any higher than these.

EXTENSION:
Announced event would end as intended then after the end time they announced the event was being extended. But by then players had either stopped trying or spent clams. However they seem to have accepted this isn’t the way things should have gone, a willingness to admit they got it wrong is a good start to hopefully getting things back on a better track with the next event.

SUPPORT:
There were definite improvements in this area last year, but something seems to have broke again. And it could be with the tough events and issues of late the support staff are just swamped and unable to give every complaint the attention it needs. Whatever it is it needs addressed as support is the place players turn when they need help or are frustrated when something isn’t right in the game. Getting the right response to players complaints can make all the difference, you get it wrong you lose a player, and a possible clam buyer. However they seem to have reacted to players complaints regarding the late extension well from what you’ve been reporting, so credit where it’s due for that. However,  I’ve long thought TinyCo should look to implement a players ambassador role to help bridge the gap between themselves and players.

Anyway that’s all I’m going say, as I feel like my thoughts are stuck on repeat these last few events. But I do try to be as honest as possible, even if it’s not all blue skies and rainbows. I’d much prefer those as you know, but I’m still hopeful the next event can impress and blows our minds rather than just frustrate us until we blow our tops.

And please remember these are just my thoughts, they in no way reflect Bunny or Lotty’s opinions of the event, and of course if you’ve any thoughts or feedback of your own, please leave it in the comments. But please don’t turn this into a What the Deuce post, as Bunny will send me out to charm tapeworms if you do, and I really don’t fancy that. You’ll find the What the Deuce post HERE should you need it.

Until we meet again again in Quahog!!!

  1. I didn’t manage to unlock anything but the event didn’t interest me much so I’m not too bothered. There are definitely too many rare drops and not enough people to collect each item so I probably wouldn’t have got anywhere anyway.

  2. I almost got Genesha I didn’t realize the game was ending and only needed one of the special coins to unlock him. Needless to say I was pissed when I am back to collect and unlock the character.

  4. My biggest complaint was that Ganesh the boss went away after you got Ganesh, which you had to do as part of the questiline. Then the next step of the quest required you to place the Taj Mahal which you couldn’t do with just 10 rupees every three hours from Chris. You needed Ganesh battles.

I did complain and got a nice clam refund which is the only reason I’m still here.

  5. More than how I did is how I didnt do 😛 I didn’t get anything, but I knew that from day 1. Too many rare items to collect in one week and boss fights are always tough for me. I made the try only because I have nothing else to do and because I couldn’t send the characters to the resort anyway.
All the same, I found some good aspects: More show related content, and Meg being used. I don’t get to use her often in events, so it was a kind of refreshing addition to the usual combo of Lois-Jerome-Bonnie

On brighter unrelated news, I got my third gold Stewie buck. Now I just need a salary of blue bucks, but Evil Monkey seems just around the corner. XD If I just had 10 more people to keep the 5th level of the resort full…

  6. I logged into this event every 3 – 4 hours and got belly dancer Stewie and a whole lot of frustration.I’ve been playing this game since the first Star Trek event and this event finally got me to download TSTO. Playing TSTO was like a breath of fresh air as it plays just like a game should. Tiny Co is going to be seeing less and less of me from now on. But thankfully you guys are still here!

    • TSTO is a far superior game. If you play the game regularly, you will unlock everything and you have so much more land to decorate and generally enjoy what you’ve made. FGQFS gets to a point where you get 20-30 buildings per event with no land to put them in, so decorating goes out the window. Playing regularly is no guarantee of even finishing the event, let alone unlocking everything.

      • I play both, and enjoy both but sometimes get a little bit tired with the simple tap and go of TSTO. But I think we need to remember that Tapped Out is owned by EA, a much bigger company and that gives them bit more financial freedom.

  7. Highest I attacked Ganesha at was level 3 and that happened only once. Don’t like these multiple item drops required to fight a boss especially when there’s not many characters dropping the items. Only 2 characters dropping items until you unlocked the stuff for BD Stewie but by then the event was ending.

Would still have needed 37 more blessings for Ganesha.

  8. Am I the only one who enjoyed this event lol? I mean I do play a lot and I am a premium player as well so I had no issues unlocking Ganesha as well as the new stewie costume. Personally I love the mini events as it gives the game a chance to change themes faster. The only thing I didn’t get was the Taj Mahal which I was 200 shy of but I didn’t really want it anyway as it’s takes up too much precious space and would have just sat in my inventory.

  10. I spent the first 3 days cleaning up character quests from the last event, which put me well behind the eight ball on this one-week event. But I had 8-9 quests open at the start and it was bugging me. Anyway, didn’t buy or spend one clam for the first time in more than a year of events (doesn’t seem to be any point in doing so anymore). Got Stewie’s outfit but was about 35 coins away from Ganesha, so didn’t even care about the extension. If the next event is as hard as the last few, I expect I’ll stop caring, go full freemium, and just focus on getting the first couple of week’s done in a 4-5 week event. I’m really starting to lose the enjoyment I used to have playing this game.

  11. Missed Ganesha by 1 blessing… ONE!! Thanks to the not extending, nope we ARE extending fiasco! Would have earned him had I had a little warning. And I really did like this concept and agree with you RT that it would have made a good 2-3 week event. LOVED the episode, aside from the stupid subplot in quahog. Padma I would have purchased probably. Oh well… onwards and Tigger & Lotty thank you thank you for all the great features, your supportive comments in moderating the conversations, and of course the fun with polls – I know it must take a lot of time and I appreciate all you ladies do to improve morale!!

  12. I probably could have finished had I known there was going to be an extension sooner but I had already given up the day before because it wasn’t going to happen on by the original time. Oh well, at least I cleared up most of my side quests.

  13. If there had been a clam buyout on Ganesha I was most of the way there and would have bought clams. I think if there had been an announcement earlier that the event was being extended I might have had enough time. I would like a couple of days break with an announcement on when the new event is coming instead of just guessing

    • You could’ve bought the collectables to get Ganesha, or rushed the tasks. I think I needed 11 peanuts, and I had 6 already. I ended up rushing tasks towards the end to get the final 5… I spent around 30 clams all up. That gave me the final 21 blessings, when I only needed 20 more.

  15. I have to say this was a tough mini event, and I manage to log in every 2hrs, apart from when I sleep, I stockpiled as many of each item to battle Ganesha until Monday evening, when I managed to unlock Stewies outfit, so I was able to hit Ganesha at 5x on my first run at her. Even with that as the original end time of the event approached I still didn’t have enough offerings to unlock Ganesha and ended up spending clams to finish up, so I wasn’t too happy when they announced the extension too late, I even kept checking Facebook and the ingame FAQ during the closing hour to see if there was any sign of an extension. I’ve found the game has been getting harder over the last few events, and because of this I’m rarely buying clams anymore, but I do still enjoy the game but not as much as I use to.

  16. I don’t need a break, just need events to be more fair. If you play the game, and log in every 2-4 hours, AND spend money, you shouldn’t feel completely unable to finish. It didn’t used to be THIS bad, and customer service used to be better… I am kinda sad because I love this game. It’s the only game I have played more than a few months and not gotten tired of. I would no longer recommend it to friends though because of events like this one… hoping the next is better and more play-able. I saw in the update older characters are going to be used which is great. I will stick around to see how it goes.

  17. I found this event to be somewhat tiring. Maybe I haven’t recovered from Christmas event yet. Maybe because it took so long to get bd stewie. But at least I got him without spending clams. I cannot understand how the drop rates can be so different from one player to the next – it seems like many players who checked every 4 hours still barely got bd stewie by the end.

I cheer for there being a stewie costume to unlock. But that’s because I have stewie. As someone who is only up to the fine arts district I feel bad for anyone that hasn’t unlocked him in their game yet. I get that long time players want more of the later unlocked characters in events though, nice to see him dancing around 😀

The unannounced extension was nice but sort of too late. I used clams to finish getting Ganesha on time. And yes, I messaged tinyco to ask for them back and they came through. But this is not the first time they have extended an event without warning.

So overall, not anywhere near my favorite event.

Anyone think ganesha’s drumming looks a lot like monkey kong’s? 😉

  18. I was ONE Blessing away from getting Ganesha.
On Tuesday night I was about 13 away, and I had stopped sending the characters on quests to get the drops for Ganesha since it was due to be over before they would have been done with the next round. So then by the time they had announced the extension (which I only happened to see from another website, not even the game itself), Ganesha had reset, and so I wasn’t able to get enough by the time they cut it off again on Wednesday.
    ONE
    AWAY
    So aggravating.

  21. I would love to see things start Thursdays and finish Wednesdays – it builds in a gap to extend things, finish questlines, restore roads, etc.
Had this been the norm yesterday, I would have left everyone collecting for Ganesha drops instead of wandering around waiting for the next event.

I think I prefer events starting Wednesday so they have a couple days to fix bugs before weekend but I get your point and I agree it’s nice to have a day off sometimes 🙂

    • I agree. When it got close to the end I put my characters elsewhere. Would have been nice to keep them for Ganesha drops. A specific start and end day would be cool. If they extend events, post it sooner, they did before. If it was extended they would post it around noon I think.

  22. Amazingly bad event for me. I didn’t unlock one character, and only earned enough Rupees to get 3 items needed during the quest line, and only got to part 6 of the quest line. All I can say is WOW! TinyCo has turned this game from fun and slightly challenging, to not so fun and impossible to unlock anything worthwhile. What am I going to do with a Parade Elephant, immediately into storage you go. This event has cemented my decision to spend no more money on this game. Not worth it anymore.
