The Question of MORE Land

Hey there Clammers. Figured I would hop on in here with something we are seeing asked for all the time. Land. More Land. More Room. More More More More More…

Brian

I have always said if you want to enact change, take steps to do it. Don’t just say you hate something, say why…how it can be better…how to make it NOT hated. This is the same in any walk of life. There are things that can be changed and things that can’t be. It all comes down to the ins and outs and technicality of it all too. Especially when it comes to games. If you add here, do you have to take from there?

Well TinyCo, also paying attention to players requests wanted to start dialog on the subject of MORE Land a lil further. Get some feedback, input, and thoughts on it as well as sharing some inside from the other side of things. You know, that “Bigger Picture” thing I keep talking about. 🙂

Here are some things that Matt @ TinyCo would like YOU, our readers, to communicate to him.

“How much space is enough space?”

We’ve talked before about how space gets released – in particular that it’s best coupled with districts and as a between-events release, to keep the game novel. We also need to test new districts extensively to make sure having more stuff on the screen doesn’t cause more crashes.
We’re hearing more and more discussion about this, and it bears further research. For players who need more space, what are you trying to display? Is this for quest and theme buildings? Or are you trying to display everything ever purchased? Is the problem that new event content pushes our staple buildings (such as offices), or is there another desire we aren’t aware of?
To that end, from a collector’s perspective, what is the ideal rate for space to keep up with content? TQFS releases a lot of content, in large part because that is the single thing players most want and ask for. Whenever content starts drying up, we get a huge influx of tickets, comments and tweets about it. And, of course, fewer players play the game as returning traffic drops.
Because of this, we don’t expect space to keep up 1:1 with new content – doing so would lead to crashes and other tragedies. There are many different ways for players to play, and we’d like to be cognizant of collectors’ requests for space while also keeping an interesting release schedule and a stable game.
So there you have it. Directly from the mouth of TinyCo. Now, we would like to open up the dialog to YOU. Please be respectful to everyone’s thoughts and ideas. Be constructive. Be helpful. Please also keep this post comment thread to JUST Land. We know you have lots on your mind, but we would like to keep focus on Land ONLY here. So give Matt YOUR answers. YOUR feedback. A community grows best when it grows together. We LOVE hearing from you and so does TinyCo.

  1. Coming from the TSTO world where land wasn’t really an issue, I was able to buy practically everything and still make it look ‘nice.’ i.e. with roads, cement, water, etc, or whathaveyou. In FG, I feel like my aesthetic approach is constantly being squeezed.

Here’s the issue: Not only is there not enough land to display everything we ever collected (and I understand the game can crash, it’s still fairly new), but the way the land updates are released with new land in 2 directions make it really hard to design the town. When it gets released in districts, that’s awesome, but in the forest requires a complete re-design. And I’m not talking about just moving those existing buildings over–I’m talking about the entire freakin’ town.

The slices of land are a bit too small for the cost and the size of buildings offered, and the amount that’s made available does not interface well with the tons of new content that comes out. Buildings and decorations come out almost daily, weekly, etc, but new characters are pretty rare, and it’s really fun having existing characters, regular or premium, collect stuff for the new characters, as opposed to just constantly bombarding the town with new stuff, limited time promotions, just tons and tons and tons of new content.

I would also suggest opening up the water a little bit more. And I’m sure after the game ages several years there won’t be any more new districts, the stability will be better, and new land can hopefully be released at the same pace as new stuff. I think the design team should ask themselves…do we have enough land that someone could take a building a put a road around it, or decorate it the way they want to, as opposed to just smashing everything together in one big jumble?

  2. I definitely see where TC is coming from in regards to this issue. I figured that at a certain point it would probably be necessary to stow a few items in inventory rather than display them. No big deal, since there are definitely a few duds in the mix that don’t really add anything to the visual appeal of the game (and a few that offer a meager payout that does not justify their active use).
I have been playing since ‘Kingdom’, and it did seem like the land-to-items ratio was fine for quite a while. I always tended to have a decent amount of empty land here or there to help juggle my current items and allow easy placement of new ones. Even the Comic-Con event did not appear to overwhelm my tiny little town.
However, I have noticed that the current District simply has too many new items to keep this balance, as I am now at full capacity. Specific examples are the multiple Italian restaurants and pet-related sites – narrowing it down to one of each might not have overwhelmed my tiny town. It also is worthy of mentioning that the Mayor’s Mansion, while nice to look at, may be a tad on the large size. Did it really need to be that big? Combine this with the obnoxiously tiny buildings that are way off scale (The Abandoned Warehouse, for example), and District 9 feels like it has been crushed under the weight of its own ambition – not very balanced at all.
In short, the question of more land did not seem to be a problem for me until the arrival of District 9. I feel that there are just too many new buildings being pushed out in relation to the land that is being offered up. With the Halloween event lurking ahead, it may finally be time for me to start stashing some stuff unless a few more blocks are made available…

My suggestion would simply be to slow things down a bit on releases. I am not going anywhere, and would happily wait for quality content over a barrage of so-so content. Also, it would be helpful if the new land expansions did not fall one square short of road placement like the east side of Districts 8 & 9 did – seriously, I can’t put anything there so it is basically wasted space…

  3. I think I’m a little more greedy, I have a lot of space (still unable to unlock Disctrict 9) because I have literally no decos in my town, only the buildings that give money and exp. Is just me, i really don’t like all the decos, having a robot, those cases for the costumes of the fabulous 4 seems to broke the “city” for me
And I don’t have the office farm but with the Kool-Aid quest I have to build an office for Chris

  4. I’m actually doing okay for land. Okay, I’m still working on District 8 unlocking Stewie, but I’ve cleared all the district. I’ve lots of empty space. I tend to just have simple rows of houses and shops and things though, rather than giving them their own back yards full of trees and whatever. I do have a dedicated F4 area though, and another dedicated ComicCon Exhibition. Everything has appropriate road access, so it’s not like I’m just cramming everything together. It’s pretty simple and not very extravagant, but I think I have plenty of room for the foreseeable future – and I still haven’t even bought most of those expensive expansions on the left yet.

  5. Biggest gripe about land expansions.
    TIME.
    I’m a level 50 player with 400k spare.
I really don’t mind paying the premium to purchase it and have my own little comicon area and a pyramid area and spacing my buildings out so no road or path is covered.

But when you run event after event back to back or with another pending I’m not sending pascal to spend 36 or 48 hours to clear a block!
I will need some stupid building you release as part of a quest line and have to wait 2 days to move forward setting my whole game play on hold.
So the blocks sit there until I feel it is safe to give it a fly n pray you don’t release anything.
I’m a freemium player so I save my clams for the special characters. I’m not wasting 100 days collecting to get another Mexican so I can do two things at once when they get released.
Why not have 2? One for land clear and one for buildings if you want it to be that way.

Also an ocean expansion would be nice. I’d like to put my boats out a little further as they are cool decorations

  6. It would be neat to unlock some of the water for boats and stuff to get them away from the land. Would help open some of the coast line. Also think that the water area overall should be refuced. It’s large and wasteful.

  7. I understand their pov but like many have said, I’m a premium player and would like to display all the items I spent real money on.

Currently I still have roads and generally like the way I have my town displayed but I don’t have room for 1 more building… With Halloween event comming tonight, maybe, idk what I’m going to do. Don’t want to remove roads or store too much but I don’t have any other option.

I spent around $100 on Comicon which takes up around 2 districts of land for me and don’t really want to store it all away.

I know they want as many people to play as possible but they have to stop supporting aging devicea at some point…

  8. I dont see a land crisis. I have played since before Kingdom of the Moon and still have at least 3 whole areas of land that are free to place things. I also have room for decorations. I have synced Chinatown and the Entertainment Districts together and even added my own “Central Park” area in the Downtown District. plus 3 areas on the left side of town that i havent unlocked yet for 60,000, 70,000, and 80,000. The only problem I have is when I finally will purphase Buzz Killington and the giant building he comes with. I have no place for it as of now. but after I unlock said area i’m sure ill be fine. It seems like most players like to show off what they have earned from past events or mainly everything that they have ever earned. Which I do as well. But if this item becomes to large for space or doesnt make me money within so many hours, I simply put it away. I also dont make sections for past events, I blend some useful buildings in with original content or basically wherever they fit. I would also like more use of the water and pavement. and if TinyCo does realease more area, I suggest going south of Chinatown. They should only give out as much land as needed before the game starts crashing everytime you go to play. I say at least 1 more district is essential.

      • No. I’m not. Although I have bought a few premium buildings, just because I wanted them and I plan on getting the rest that are availible. I have room for them. And I have at least 10 Common Offices, 8 Standard Offices, 4 Typical Offices and 4 Average, along with 2 banks, pancake houses, and mini-marts in my Quahog. Which i could put in away, but I like to use for coins.

  9. My boyfriend and me talked about how yes we are both collectors of everything but we don’t have to display it we would like more land just for the fact that he buys a lot of the buildings and has no land left to do it and for me I buy some of the buildings and I still run out of land for these objects. I know we said strictly land but we talked about how if they opened some water then that would give us more land to work with and eith out having to open so much new land

  10. I understand TinyCo trying to keep this game running on as many platforms as possible, but I hope this isn’t resulting in the limiting of space or content. The game is just over 6 months old and has tremendous content to grow. Maybe allow users to switch on/off zoom level, resolution, extra space to troubleshoot crashes? Or TinyCo could stop supporting older platforms to maintain good space/content ratio?

  11. I think people dont seem to realize you need balance in game for memory purposes. Realeasing more land everytime someone complains is just not feasable as more land = more stuff and clutter people place = more memory usage = lower end devices crash more and game becomes unplayable. It’s already started happening. My old Samsung G3 was really struggling to cope towards the end of the comicon event and thats not exactly a slouch of a device.

Looking at my “friends” Quohogs though it would seem a lot of people just wanna cram every single item into every nook and cranny. Some dont even have roads to make way for ugly lava mazes and silly out of place buildings.

I keep my town quite neat and realistic as possible and still manage to utilize every building that is released or sold that looks good in my Quohog and have never really thought “Dang i need more land OMG!”. in fact right now i have some buildings that i dont consider to be that desireable as placeholders just filling in space until better looking buildings are released. Town looks great ( to me ) and no space/memory issues on my end. Looking forward to the new event although being Halloween i dont think much will be kept after the event ends.

Would love to post pics and thanks to Alyssa pointing me in the direction and Bunnys guide i have managed to take a few screencaps. Just not feeling like signing up to dropbox to upload them. If i can use tinypic or something id show my town off 🙂

  12. The land is needed to put out all the buildings and be able to decorate them Ina way that doesn’t look trashy. What’s the point in spending your money on clams only to have to store the buildings your purchase. The amount of land needed should almost be double the amount you release with each district. My inventory is overflowing of wasted money. That’s one way to turn gamers off. With the Halloween event coming Ive had to remove my streets just to make room for whatever’s coming because I have zero space to put anything

  13. I suggest repurposing previously released premium buildings to drop items for new or event specific items. It would be a thank you to people who have already bought the building while others might decide to pick it up the second time around. And it would be a way help cut back the growing demand for space caused by constantly introducing new buildings for new sets of tasks.

  14. Get rid of the 75% of the water. It’s taking up space and we can’t even use it. Waterfront makes sense…but we don’t need a whole ocean.
I understand the need to balance what keeps the customers happy versus what keeps the game code stable, but perhaps moving forward it would be best to increase building prices to require more time to save up for them. Not a popular solution, but going by TSTO, it seems to work. They are charging over a million for the newest building. Crazy…but understandable.

  15. Srry for all the post but really the formula has to be:

Weekend events: a small trimming i.e. (The single 60,000 land)

Large Events: 2 districts (but land should cost and size of district 9 land)

Districts: 1 district of extra land for each district

  16. I hate the office farming… it looks terrible. Thus I’m part of the “more land” team because I it need to create a nice town. There are so many new buildings, especially after the Comic con Event, It is a shame to have all those decos and not being able to use them (robots, mutant stewies, movie action set, vehicles). The whole point is to create a custom town that you like and are proud of. About buildings, you can’t storage the ones you need for characters actions. It’s hard enough to earn costumes or buildings just to put them away. Also, there are huge structures like the hotel, Vinny’s Mansion… the Mayor’s Mansion. The high-heel boutique (the pink one) Whatever you decide to buy it’s because you want to display it.. How about the space needed only for the prison.. fun land, the zoo and the aquatic Park…
… definitely more land is needed to arrange the things you want. I hope it becomes available because I’m SO looking forward for the Halloween content.

  17. Also if there’s an event we definitely need a big chunk say like 2 districts in size because I won 200,000+ blam and won every thing from the 2 mystery boxes and bought every freemium building and it takes up all of district 7 and most of the civic center so for events we need a pretty big share of land btw thanks for listening to us

  18. Honestly I think you should make districts the same square on the right side and keep pushing right so like district 8 and 9 where good and as we get 10-11-etc do the same but for every district give us (on the left side) a whole district size of land to clear, this doubling of district land and extra space would be perfect moderation and btw a all water district would be nice, so basically I’m saying for every square district gives us exactly that but in bonus land at the same time

I spend a fair amount on clams but I would spend more if I had a place to put everything. What’s the point of spending more money on the game when I already have premium items gathering dust in my inventory.

  20. I haven’t bought any premium content other than conseula and just from regular game tasks I literally have no land left. with the mayor west update and now halloween coming I simply just have no place to put anything, I need to take buildings like the library and theater and put them in storage just to place items which I would really prefer not to do. So more land would be great

  21. I generally agree with all of the comments posted here so far…

I like to keep my town as coherent and realistic as possible, and doing so requires some extra space for decorations such as street lights, trees, etc. and lots of space for roads to divide different areas and blocks (i.e. Asiantown, a “sketchy” part of town, residential Spooner Street, school district, etc.). I think being able to design my town in a meaningful way is one of the most fun parts of the game.

In terms of what I keep in my town, I definitely don’t (and don’t want to) display everything I have. What I like to do is to display many of my limited edition items because its a way of showing off how long you’ve been playing and how far you got in an event. For example, I have a block with the Kingdom event’s museum, volcano, a couple statues, lotus pond, oasis, etc. I have a small area I like to call “patriot park” (lol) with the lincoln memorial and 4th of July event decorations, as well as a superhero/movie set from Comic-Con and the rest of my Comic-con buildings are spread throughout.

The problem, to me, is simple. The amount of new land that gets released is not proportional to the amount of new buildings and items that get released. I found this especially true with the Comic-Con event – there were enough freemium buildings to fill a new district, and if you bought premium buildings you’d need 2 or 3 districts worth of space to keep it all out. I don’t want to have to store everything from older districts to make room for new things. When D9 got released, after I rearranged all the clutter floating around from Comic-Con, I hardly had enough room left for the new stuff. And now that we’re starting a new event it’ll be the same thing.. Build in any extra free space that I can, and then condense it into a nice neat block once the event is over and we get more land.

And I think I should add that I’m a freemium player. I only have 3 clam-costing buildings but if I actually spent real money on a lot of other buildings and decos like many people here do, I would need even more space to display all of it. I mean, whats the point of spending real money on a game building just to have it sit in inventory because theres nowhere else to keep it??

I think thats all. Thanks for listening, TinyCo 🙂

  22. The problem is the barrage of events and buildings needed during unlocking characters. The amount of land given per building is out of proportion to how many buildings received. I could put all my buildings down and no streets and I would still have buildings in my inventory. In my Simpsons game I have just about every building/decoration ever released and still have room with land. While I feel the Simpsons game is a little slow releasing content this game just doesn’t give you a break. They need to balance something over at TinyCo.

  23. More land would be great possibly one more district would be fine but continuing that district with the Halloween event would keep everyone busy but happy with space as well. Its not necessary to add more characters that are new to the game its not even necessary to add new items at this time just space that is all. I did notice that I ran out of space to display my purchase buildings. Im sure other players have as well. I crammed most of my buildings together it doesn’t bother me to much. But if you do add more buildings for future quest than space is definitely an option. Thank you for your time tinyco. I hope my suggestion helped! 🙂

  24. “we don’t expect space to keep up 1:1 with new content”

So you flat out admit you have no intention to give players enough land to place the buildings/decorations that exist, let alone leave room for roads and creative decorating? Since premium items give no benefit other than looking pretty, and you admit you’ve no intention of letting people display them, why purchase any then?

    Like

    • That’s not so much what they’re saying…what they’re saying is the number 1 request they get (even more than land) is more and more and more content.
And they’re doing what they can to keep these releases coming at a steady pace, but as a result because of so much content they can’t keep the 1:1 rate with new content and land. The game would become unstable and constant crashes would occur.
So in the end they’re basically saying, what do you want more land or content? Either way sacrifices will have to be made. If it’s land then you’ll get fewer content…if it’s content then you’ll have less land. The game has to be stable in order for people to play it…
      At least that’s how i’m interpreting it…

      • More land, less short timed events (like Sexy Stewie and Kool Aid guy.)
The only premium buildings I have are horse stable, family jewels, and conselu house. Every freemium building I have, I only have one of. Yet, I ran out of room. I have no place for the Kool Aid skate park or the robotic Brian and Stewie.
I hate to earn or win things and then have to stick them into storage. I would prefer space to build the town I want. Otherwise it looks like a big junkyard.
Otherwise they might need to rename the game to Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff That You Place In Inventory
        😉

  25. For me I haven’t ran into space issues yet. I don’t think we really need more space to be honest. Better things we need that will remedy the space problem would be to allow roads to be placed in more places so we can better surround buildings thus utilizing the space more and be able to place cars on the roads. Pavement would also help a lot. Finally, water seems like wasted space, we should be allowed to place gold digger island and boats out on it. We don’t need more space… we need more practical use of the space we have. If that makes sence.

  26. I know this has been said before, but a free pavement option, like in tapped out, would be great so I don’t have to use as much road, therefore requiring less space. Like someone said below I like my game looking a little more realistic and I think I could fit more buildings together and keep to the “realistic” theme this way. Love the game though and I always try to stay up to date on this page with all the new content! Keep it up!!

  27. Another idea is to offer more land as a bonus to those who spend clams. Every x clams spent opens some clam only territory to build on. So those spending $ to buy things can display them. This land not available for purchase by coins or clams, but is offered based on clams spent. Probably very hard to program, but an interesting concept.

  29. New player here. District8 and comic on only.
Seems like there should be enough land to support one of each building offered in a district and/or event, plus some room for decorations. If we choose to farm, we have to choose what to put away and what to keep out. I agree with comments about the size of buildings and roads. Buildings vary too much in size. Common depth with various width or vice versa would make squeezing them in easier. Also, seems like a lot of wasted squares around roads. Maybe make most decorations one square wide or deep to allow them to be easier placed in dead areas.
Finally, what if you shrunk each building by one square height and width (as long as they are already at least 3×3? Or by 10%. Many wanted to zoom out and see more of town anyway, if you shrink everything by a square or 10% or 20%, then we have an ability to zoom out even more! and who needs to see the facial hairs on Meg’s face in an ultra close zoom in (like we have now).
I am slowly progressing, but I always have at least one worker clearing land. Over half my town is empty, but I am a new player with only comiccon under my belt. My comiccon tribute area is about one tenth to 20% of my town. So, after 3-4 more events, I will likely be in same boat as the others.
However, I’ve seen plenty of towns with multiples of plenty of items, and many office building farms etc… I don’t think the game needs to support multiples.
    Main points
    1) enough land for ONE of each building offered in event/district, with some % added for decorations ie each event gets land for one each building plus 10% for decorations. ( players have to choose which decorations to display also in the extra land offered for roads/decorations)
    2) more standard size for buildings/decorations in at least one dimension (ie depth or width)
    3) road placement restrictions work with building sizes
    4) farmers (multiples of one or more items) choose between good looking and efficient earning
    5) scale down entire town by resizing squares, or shrinking current square size of everything, so it all remains in current scale to each other
    6) reasonable balance between ability to display ONE of each, and playability

    • Give this guy a job. I think he has it spot on.

The best way to fix this situation would be to shrink down some of the bigger buildings like the prison and zoo and stuff.. (Or atleast make them fit a 9×9 square rather than leaving spaces around them which causes players the need to add decorations) and standardising buildings to make it more efficient to place and build.

And yh, do something about this useless ocean

  30. I personally find that the only thing iblack space for is event prizes etc. I do however have a suggestion that would fix that. Why not implement a SECOND area, like a row or two above the town, where event prizes are automatically stored and displayed? Perhaps with the option to place them in the town for those of us that like to use them to decorate a themed area for example. It would serve the purpose of showboating to any visitors, and free up space in the town. Most towns I see display their tropes and event prizes in a row or dedicated area anyway.

  33. Being that I like to construct my town by trying to make it as realistic-looking and symmetrical as possible (I blame my OCD for this :P), I tend to place my buildings with a bit of thought behind it by grouping them in various sections, for example, a section for asian town, another for comic-con, by the beach I have everything related to boating and a fun-fair, etc. Each of these sections are then separated by roads in between.

Along the buildings, I also insert some decorations around the buildings, like trees, flowers, hedges and whatnot, to make my town even more realistic-looking. Due to this, I normally tend to take up a lot more land than one who’d place his buildings in just a straight line next to each other without any meaning.

Thus, I used up almost all the land there currently is available to purchase and still I haven’t got enough place to even place some comic-con buildings I purchased a month ago. Unfortunately, I do not know where I’m going to even start placing the Halloween buildings and I’ll end up placing these in my inventory until more space clears up.

TinyCo must cater for those who don’t like to place their buildings anywhere at random at any available green space they find to fit them in without any roads in between, making the town look like one big mess.

Due to the large quantities of buildings introduced every so often, TinyCo must ensure if there’ll be enough space to insert new buildings in our town for those who like to have their town in a realistic-looking and neat town as possible.

  34. its simple really. the land has to match the stuff you want to sell us. the people who have issues with land are typically people who purchase a lot of the premium content. when you purchase buildings you expect to be able to display them. if you can’t most people wont continue to buy stuff.

right now they only add land when a new district comes out. the easy solution is to also add land when you release an event. right now its impossible to display all your previous event stuff in a non cluttered way. when this halloween thing comes out ill be forced to rip down a large section of my town to fit in all the stuff ill need to put out as part of the event. thats dumb. if your going to do anything that involves a bunch of new buildings you need to also release space to put those buildings .

But nicer buildings are always showing up and taking places from older ones, some wich I for one wanted to keep in town. Maybe smaller buildings or roads. Having buildings being able to face backwards is something we can work too. More land is always nice, but not the only solution.

  37. I like displaying everything I’ve bought and won. I’m a show off 🙂 I don’t mean office farms or multiples of the same decorations, but unique buildings and deco’s. I also want my town to look great (which it does not right now). As a premium player I am running out of land. I have a lot of buildings. (And I went premium after the King Butt event, so I do not have everything) In my opinion new content is fine and it keeps the game fresh and entertaining. However I don’t think it is necessary to release so many new buildings in just one update. Right now, I think the new content per district/event could be reduced compared to the King Butt and Comic Con event and District 9. Those had way too many unique buildings and statues. (In my opinion) People are even getting worried that Tinyco will run out of content to release if they were to keep this up. 🙂

  38. I want to display any thing I have unlocked. Usually in these types of games I like to make my town resemble an actual town, but I find it impossible in this game. I have too many buildings and too little space. Maybe cut back on all of the buildings that are required once to further a quest, then just sit there forever. While Comic-con was a lot of fun, there were just too many buildings released during it, especially if you were a lower level.

I would also like to see the time to clear the land either lowered or eliminated completely. Getting hung up in a quest because I need to wait 2 days for a piece of land to clear than another 16 hours for the building really sucks. I am currently stuck on the Kool Aid man quest because I accidentally started clearing a 2 day long piece of land and need to build an office building.

Ability to use the water would be nice. Having Gold Digger Island sitting dead center in my town is really weird looking.

  39. i’ll just paste here what i wrote on reddit

“I think half of the problem is that the space there isnt utilised well. most of the “blocks” that I create has random space at the front back or sides that cant be filled. I dont think everyone wants buildings to be uniform in size, but the rigidness of where roads can be placed brings about numerous problems in terms of town design. so what do you then do with that space behind buildings? hope that there is a decoration that fits there? a decoration that then gets hidden by the buildings?
pavements would help a lot with this. there are tons of decorations that I dont use because of this. it seems daft, I know, but i look at some of the decorations, even something as simple as a bus stop, and just have no clue where to put it that doesnt look daft. but yh, include pavements. seriously.
and whilst I’m at it, we need to put things out in the sea too, like where the platform is. there is no real reason why you cant allow us to put a bloody boat out there.”

having said that, i agree with the above poster. i think just one “strip” of trees extra would be helpful

  40. I’m sorry, but what is the point of earning and working towards all the building and event items for a month or more and then just putting them away? With Comicon (sure wish we would of received the convention center) there are enough items and buildings to need at least 3 districts if you want to make it look nice. I would like to have land available to keep dedicated districts when a major event is released. If TinyCo is going to release large amounts of items during an event there should be land to go with all those items. I do not want long run off roads with all the building crammed together, I like putting in side streets and turning things to face a different way, putting bushes and trees and seeing the side of some of the buildings and I like creating mini districts/sections within a district. I don’t play this game just to tap relentlessly or just place things anywhere all crammed together. I want what I spent a lot of my time working on displayed nicely and to look like a town. They could keep the bottom areas available for district releases and the upper areas available for basic land expansions.

  41. I’m focused on more space mainly because I put buildings down that give me coins, and items down that don’t but look cool, and I also like to make things like a Forrest, but run out of room. And each and every time a monthly thing comes out, I tend to run out of room mainly because I put everything down from that content. So I’m basically saying that it would be a great idea to add a plot of land every time a new event pops up, depending on the size of that event.

  42. Two things that would help the land issue would be letting us place vehicles on the roads and boats/docks further in the water. I’m sure both of these have programming issues, but might be worth a look.

  44. Well, of course I can’t speak for everyone, but I’ll have a go anyway:

I’m running into the land shortage too, but for me it has a simple cause:
On one hand I want to build a town thats enjoyable to look at, on the other hand I always want to have a nice money buffer in case anything expensive drops. This means that I always have around 200 standard offices around to generate my money buffer. This means I have to sacrifice a huge area to do so.

Basically the provided land is a little short for building unsqeezed towns, but i is doable, but that means you have to miss out on the money buffer.

I think a great solution for this situation would be to have buildings that generate a lot of money in relativly short time…

    For example:
add a new building that would generate 10 (and/or factors of 15/20/25) times the money/exp of a standard office. To balance this out a little bit TinyCo could make it cost 1.25-1,5 as much as the corresponding offices would cost. Also it would make sense to increase the build time to lets say 7.5 hours (30min * 10 building = 5 hours and multiply it with a factor).

Of course this is just a basic idea, but I think this would solve a lot of the used space and support tickets (since you would be easy to argue to get rid of 20 offices and build 2 new ones instead)…

Another idea would be to make buildings upgradeable (on a single or general base).
Since this would be a deeper operation in the game mechanics and might be quite hard to overview for the player, I would not recommend this one, but hey its another aproach…

I know this is a long read but for me personally the addition of high level and expensive buildings would be the easiest way to handle this topic and since TinyCo really seems to listen to the userbase, I hope this is one thing we will see in the future.

  45. Beyond the amount of buildings (and their size, sometimes they are really, really huge without a reason), I think there is a problem in the dimensions of buildings compared to where you are allowed to place roads. My city is full of lines of 1×1 blocks (or more) that I can’t use because I can’t place roads right next to the buildings, resulting in tons of space wasted when added up. There is also a lack of consistency in the dimensions of buildings, which doesn’t really help when trying to design a block or use land efficiently, which ends up in you needing more and more.

Water/Beach is another issue, as it is really not implemented. Boats and such have to be placed right next beach, and you can place buildings above water (and a building over water/sand doesn’t really look “well” due to how they are designed).

Take for example all the Comicon Stuff, we need at least land equivalent to one full district if we want to show everything we got from it (same as the Kingdom of the Full Moon one), and with a new event or district you end up placing most of it in storage, because you need space to put buidlings to get items and unlock further characters. And that kills any wish to take some time and design your city, as you will end up probably destroying half of it for one or another reason (like destroying all roads to get Mutant Stewies together during Comicon for the trophy, etc).

  46. I don’t have a problem with needing more land as i still have 4 blocks to clear as a fall back, but what i would like to see is a better expansion of the sea and some items being allowed to put out there, the lighthouse and gold digger island are some that spring to mind. I could just be mee but I don’t think the islands look asthetically pleasing when they are half on the beach and half in the water.

  47. Would they have time to look at my account specifically? The biggest reason I enjoy this game (and TSTO) is that I like to create a nice-looking “realistic” city with what they give us. My town has room for one more small building and then I’m full. I have large decorations in my inventory and have hidden many income-generating buildings just to make my town look decent. There have been a few premium buildings that I would have purchased if only I knew I would have a proper place and land for it, so I had to pass. If they want to see my town and what I’m talking about, feel free to ask me privately for my account info. 🙂 Thanks!

  48. I’m not too fussed about how much space. If you’re running out of space – put some stuff away. I’m sure there are a good portion of Decorations that can be taken out if it’s the coins you’re wanting. I’ve got every free building, and a good amount of decorations and still have space left. I suppose it depends on your own space management. I’ve got enough room for like another four or five hospitals!

Also, if they just kept handing out new space, it’s gonna be harder to find characters and just overall become a mess. Plus, you’ve gotta think about the app size. It’s gonna get ridiculous to the point where the game will take up a good portion of your phone memory!

My advice – TinyCo don’t need to continue dishing out oodles of space for us all, just put some stuff away that you don’t really need.

My only thing – it’d be nice if they put a small island on the ocean part where we can put stuff, just because it feels like empty space.

  49. I think just one strip couldn’t hurt. I currently need 2 more strips of land when I cleared that I am going to put the houses there. I probably won’t have a lot of space left then.

I guess people have to make decisions what they want to put in there town and what not.
I got rid of all my kingdom of the full moon items (except the museum). I also moved almost all decorations from comic con into my inventory.

I’d say that you keep all important stuff for the event in your town. And place the rest in your inventory or place it somewhere to decorate your town Halloween style.

    • As a person who buys clams I would think we shouldn’t be throwing all our clam bought items into inventory after you unlock a character to save space. Part of the fun is having the different items to be unique. But having to put all those digital purchases back into your inventory is just plain stupid.
