The Good, The Bad & the Not so Pretty…Tell TinyCo

Hello there Clammers!

We’re back with another edition of Tell TinyCo!  Our good friends over at TinyCo have been so awesome at wanting YOUR opinions and feedback on the game, and LISTENING to you!  Yes, that’s right they actually listen to what you have to say…not only that they want to hear YOUR opinions!  TinyCo LogoSo our friend Matt just sent us this great email last night and would love to hear more from YOU!  Here’s what he had to say:

Hi Addicts!
Just a heads up: we’ve received a ton of awesome feedback from players about the clowns event. We’re blown away by the excitement so far.
We also hear loud and clear that players would like more coin items to enjoy the event. To that end, we’ve switched the Strength Test item from 25 clams to cost 1000 coins.
We’d love to hear more of your feedback. While we can’t incorporate EVERYTHING, we intend to read every last piece and use it to inform the next event…..
Would y’all be up for doing a “Good” and “Bad” thread, like you did for the launch of the game?
-Matt

We really value our relationship with our friends over at TinyCo, and love how they take the time to listen to players opinions about the game.  They value that feedback so much, and often make changes on the fly based on it.  (shorter tasks, premium items becoming freemium)  They really are listening, and want to make this the best game out there!

So sound off in the comments below with your thoughts.  The good, the bad and the not so pretty of The Quest For Stuff…we want it all.  Don’t be shy…but be respectful…let them know what you think!

Looking forward to YOUR feedback!

  1. I have been having a json error screen show up for the past 24 hours. I can’t get into the game, so of course I haven’t gotten to work on the clowns like I had been. Thoughts? What do I do? And before you ask, I’ve tried turning my phone off and on again. 🙂

I have JSON error as well, something about stewie_?? Peter Griffin just completed a Enfant Terrible Pt.2 and if I hit claim reward the error comes up and the screen goes green and reboots.. so I tried to do everything first and then log out of the before clicking on claim reward but now when game starts all I get is the Claim Reward and the game is stuck in an eternal loop or just crashes when I hit the button.. contacted support, no response at all

  3. Thanks for some replys tiny. I want to mention as well i have glitches with the game daily. I set chsracters to tasks (all of them sometimes) and when i come back to check on them its like nothing happened and i have to set those tasks all over again. Its a waste of an hour or more. I noticed it just now too. Icleared a clown and set peter to task, came back 5 min later because i forgot something and there they were doing nothing.

    • This is fixed in the next update 🙂 in the meantime, when you’re done with a play session, we recommend first minimizing the game, then force closing it. This should prevent lost time from occurring.

  4. Love this game! Just finishing off the last two 24hr quests for Brian and Joe. Personally I love collecting items to get characters and costumes, it can be frustrating with “epic” items but it feels like an accomplishment when I get them. Plus it makes everything last longer, which, in the long run, will prevent what has happened with Tapped Out happening to Quest For Stuff, where I pretty much sit and wait for the next update a day or two after getting one. Looking forward to more costumes and characters in the future!

  5. I really liked the special events, but it was still impossible to get unless you spend clams. I am a TSTOA. Cause of that, I am banded from in apps purchases. If you hold a special event, make sure freemium players are able to earn something too. And it sucks that it takes FOREVER to gain uncommon, rare, and extra rare items. I don’t play so much to get the items to build new costumes as I do trying to level up and see new facespace posts. I have posted 3 so far on FB, and I have had numerous people liking it! I would also wish to be able to friend people who aren’t apart of face book. Like Origin is for TSTO.

  6. I find it frustrating that the timing of the tasks is off. What I mean is when I check back on a task that takes an hour, let’s say, it’s been 40 min since the task started and it’s showing only 10 minutes has passed. It makes it difficult to accomplish limited time tasks, like the clown one, if the timers aren’t working properly. This has happened several times, even before the clown event was introduced.

It would also be great if there were tasks or some way to earn free clams besides random happenings.

Having a big variety of time tasks would be nice too. For example something that takes 5 min, 10. In, 30 and so on.

Other than that, the game is fun, I just wish I had a way to add friends other than through Facebook. Thanks for the fun!

Having a circus fence glitch. The fences keep turning into wheel cogs. This circus event seems very glitchy to me.

    • The cogs just mean the image hasn’t fully loaded in your town. Might mean more about your device than the game

      • This one should be fixed after force quitting and then leaving the game open to load for a few minutes. If it still happens, please let us know via Support, and we’ll get rid of those pesky gears.

  8. nikkiharvey nailed everything (and then some) that I would have said.

Concerning the most recent event, I’m on a few times a day and there will be no way to complete the event workout spending clams. I fully expect to pump some real $ into this game but not till a little later and most likely for my favorite characters that are premium.

If anything the event should have been longer. You would still have the more impatient (not a bad thing) people buying clams to help get their items, and give the freemium players room for those days where you can’t be on every 1-4 hours.

Not everybody has money to spend on your game nor will everyone want to. Your game will fail if this continues. Time runs out today, i have played nonstop and im not even halfway through the damn clowns we need…. very frustrating…. makes me want to stop playing

That’s strange because I played nonstop and unlocked the costume a few hours ago. I didn’t spend any money whatsoever. I was logging in about once an hour (barring sleep time).

    • This is really really good (and important) feedback. We designed the Clowns event so it could be completed by free players who played for the whole weekend (and many free players on the Facebook page report having already finished.) That said, hitting the sweet spot on time limits is tricky, and we’re listening to all feedback from players who haven’t yet pie’d all of their clowns. We’ll use this to keep calibrating future events to hit that maximum mix of fun vs challenge.

  11. I’ve been playing since it’s release and have even bought clams. I play the game a lot through out the day. When the Circus event popped up on Thursday I was excited! Was being the key word. The first two days, when I would clear the clowns, half the time I’d get kicked out of the game and receive no horn or pie, or whatever it is. Fast forward to today when I feel like I’ve only gotten a clown, maybe two- every 4 -5 hours. There is no possible way to finish this event by tonight. I refuse to spend 100 clams on a circus tent. Why would I spend clams on something I can’t leave out all the time? It makes no sense. I’m thinking it wasn’t a good idea to drop an event on people with unrealistic expectations. Some people had no problem getting the outfit, well yay, good for them. Some of them didn’t sleep for 2 days, just to make it happen. I’m not doing that. Some people cheat. I’m not doing that either. Most of us suffer and are left out because we are honest players, That’s not fair. When I get on my game every single hour and almost never find a clown, it gets to be annoying. Will not getting the outfit make me quit the game? No, of course not. I really enjoy the game and like I said have spent money on it. I’m not going to whine and ask you to extend the event because I know that won’t happen. Especially since It’s 2pm on Sunday. Long story short- I’ve paid for your product- have gotten ridiculous amounts of bugs- because of that, there’s no way I can finish the event. Will I spend money again. No, Probably not. At least not for a good long while. Will more nonsense like this make me quit next time? Probably.

    • Just some guy's avatar Just some guy

Bugs suck. It’s definitely not fair when that screws you over.

However, as a caveat. It’s probably a lot cheaper just to outright buy the costume than to buy the decorations at this late stage. The price goes down for each item you collect (-10 clams for pies and -15 clams for horns). Still not ideal if bugs are the reason you’re behind but it’s better than buying the tent/weight machine.

  12. One Thing that has to be changed immediately is the time of the events! Ist almost impossible to collect all things for the costume reward. Ive been playing the whole weekend, stood up every hour in the middle of the night to collect the clowns and as it turns out i will probably not get the reward because of 1 or 2 pies. I mean the game shouldn’t control our lifes that much that you spend a whole weekend and then dont even get anything from it. So please make it possible for all ( there are also people who have to work on weekends) to get the reward.

    Kind Regards
    Sippy

  13. I’m a bit surprised no one has mentioned this, but I get frustrated that there are not any 5 or 10 minute tasks. I find that when I go in the game I collect rent and resend characters on tasks but then there is nothing to do for an hour or more so I immediately leave the game. I’d like tasks between the 1 min and 1 hour so I have a reason to stick around and just fool around in my town. I know I can collect rent on 3 houses every few minutes but that isn’t enough to keep me in the game “playing”. I suppose after many more months there will be more to do/play with but for now I’d love shorter standard tasks, at least for the main characters.

I also am a regular player (from launch day) who will not finish the peter circus costume on Sunday. I check every hour as often as I can but had an event to go to for 4 hours yesterday and with sleeping and work there is not enough time in the weekend to finish. I can’t afford to buy clams this month so it’s a bit sad I can’t earn it. I don’t think events should extend so every player no matter how often they visit gets everything, but I agree with others that 3-4 times visiting a day may be average (at least w/ a lot of commenters) so maybe visiting 5-7 times for an event seems reasonable. More than that can be frustrating.

    Thank you for listening.

I also would like to see tasks longer than 1 minute but less than 1hr. I also feel this event should be extended. It is unreasonable to ask players to check in every few hours to get an outfit without spending clams. Those of us trying to play freemium & putting in the effort to try to get Pee Pants to come soooo close then not to be rewarded because of unrealistic time limits seems punitive. This seems like something EA would do, not a new company trying to get a foothold in mobile device gaming.

  14. I was thrilled at the general idea of this Circus event, however, the execution is *very* flawed.

I was really excited to get Hobo Clown Peter, but despite my vigilant tapping, I’m 30 pies and 8 horns away. The clowns don’t spawn often enough or drop nearly enough. And while I do purchase clams, I don’t want to spend 420 of them on an outfit.

I like to collect event items as a memorabilia of what I have been able to accomplish, but it seems all this event will leave me is with a couple cotton candy cart and circus decorations that don’t fit well together. A good freemium game allows its players to forgo spending tons on event items so that they’ll be more loyal to the game and willing to purchase regular premium items instead. The tent would have been a good idea as a premium item, if they clowns spawned more.

I’m rather disappointed that my first Family Guy event will end, and I won’t have anything decent to show for it. 😦

  15. Everyone is doing a thorough job of nailing things that should maybe be changed in the game, and I agree with nearly all of them. I have come up with two more that I haven’t yet seen: I’d like the funny little dialogue bubbles that pop up from folks like the pirates and the kids to last a second or two longer. Seems like I can almost never read them in time as they disappear too quickly.
Next, I really think that the sound buildings make when they are tapped on needs attention. You randomly either get the bell or the door knock sound no matter what building it is. It’s annoying. Assigning sounds to buildings and getting more creative with them will add immensely to the overall gameplay.
That’s all I have for right now. If someone is keeping score, you can also consider me as having complained about: water under-usage, greedy/pesky buy coins task, lack of person locator, inability to cancel tasks, glitchiness of building/item movement, more time for circus promo, no incentive for premium stuff or for decorating, taking Facebook out of friending, letting me get SOMETHING from the jiu-jitsu Lois task (probably 0 for 20 now), more accurately quoting a building’s payout rate/interval pre-purchase, and more road customization (don’t lock them to every 4 squares).
If I think of anything else, I’ll add later. I do really like the game and am glad Tiny is making the effort to listen to its players. For what it’s worth I play on a Samsung GS3. Thanks!

Ollieland and visiting in general may be a device memory issue. Social is a memory-intensive feature, so on some devices, it can cause more crashes to home screen. We’re looking into this on our end. In the meantime, making sure other backgrounded apps have been closed may alleviate the problem for you.

  17. I think the clown respawning algorithm is flawed. I am not getting clowns at the regular drop rate that people are claiming. Maybe it is bc I am in the middle of the “A Pirate’s Life for Peter” quest arc and all the pirates are interfering with the drop rate for clowns. At this rate (I’ve been diligently tapping all weekend), I still need 20 more clowns with 15 hours of the day left.

  18. Overall I like the game. I like having to find stuff to unlock characters. I like being able to build things before the task to do so comes up so I can make the most of the time my workman is free. I like that there are offices and not every building is something important like in another game I play, and the decorations like traffic lights and street signs as it means I can design my town more realistically. There’s a lot that I like and I don’t want to list it all really so I’m going to make a list of the things I don’t like.
    1) the way of moving things. Once something is placed it’s almost impossible to move its position especially with decorations. I’ve resorted many times to placing things in the inventory and replacing them from there.
    2) the labels on decorations when you tap on them. If you accidentally tap one when trying to tap a character, it’s irritating, and the labels are completely unnecessary.
    3) the event is too difficult. I play several games that have events. In fact the 3 games I have on my phone (including family guy- most my games are on my iPad) all have events right now. Of all the events I’ve ever played, going into the game 3-4 times a day has always been enough, even if sometimes I’m on for quite a while one of those times (I’m talking visiting friends). This current event is seemingly impossible. This may be that I’m expected to go into my game more often, or just because it’s impossible without clams. Either way it’s too hard. There’s not enough clowns spawning so I still need 27 pies and 6 horns. This would be fine if the event was longer.
    4) the event is too short. I don’t know about the US but here in the UK it’s a bank holiday weekend. In a lot of Europe it was a bank holiday on Thursday so I imagine a lot of people took the Friday as a holiday. People are busy and many are away from home potentially without Internet. Short events on other games have a few times meant I’ve completely missed the event by being without Internet for a few days, and I’m sure other people will have similar experiences.
    5) speech is too quick to disappear. The lost boys and pirates etc have speech appear over their heads. It doesn’t stay there long enough to be read by me and I’m not exactly a slow reader.
    6) too many outfit quests at once. I’ve had quests for two of peters outfits at the same time. I love the outfits, but the quests for them should be slower, more paced out.
    7) Facebook friends. I don’t want to use Facebook for this game. Please introduce a new way to add friends.
That’s everything for now. I’m sure as I get more characters when there’s new levels or when I’ve saved up enough clams I will be wanting a character finder and more land etc.

  21. So far I’m pretty happy with this game. The tasks are pretty funny and I think the game would get boring if you found all the items too fast so it seems about the right amount of time that it takes to unlock a new character. It’s also good that there are clams paid out now and again for tasks as these aren’t rewarded for levelling up. I also like that all the characters are still needed for collecting items as I noticed with another game that I have pretty much forgotten about some characters so just send them on endless 24 hour tasks just to make them of any use.
I know this has been said already but it happened again last night. When you send all your characters to do tasks and build something so that in the morning they should be done but time seems to have stopped while you were sleeping and only an hour has passed instead.
I would also like the permanent task to buy clams to disappear now as I am not going to spend money on a game like this so early on so it’s just getting in the way. I think a lot of people don’t mind spending money on a game like this once they decide if they will keep playing it or not but they will do it in their own time rather than just because there is a task for it even though I know that is optional.
Other than that it is great and we can ask for things like a character finder but then the other game didn’t add that in until after about 2 years of trying to track everyone down so that doesn’t bother me yet.

  22. Please don’t lock roads down like TSTO. If i can move the buildings 1 square i would like to be able to move the roads 1 square. It is one of the most frustrating things about TSTO redesign that the roads MUST be 4 squares at all times.

I find the clsn boxes dishy at times. I’ll need to tap offset from what i’m tapping on to tap it. Specially on buildings when collecting. The front doesn’t appear to be the magic spot, more the side, which is covered by another building.

Please make sure that early buildings continue to have a purpose of some sort for items. You purchase a dayspa, and i have no need for makeup any more. I would like to see older building re-used for items (common ones rather than rare) and you could then bump up the number of common required as there are more buildings giving them to you.

Re: the event. The important thing about an event is that both premium and freemium players get the options for their prizes. What you offer free should be achieveable by relatively diligent tapping. 3-4 times per day over the course of the event should net the special item

Premium people get something that assists in the event, so they don’t need to be so diligent. They also get some fancy limited time buildings they can buy during the event. When the event is over you can if you wish make the “free” thing available for premium currency only. TSTO’s whacking day is in some ways the best example of this. Lots of the free stuff became premium after the fact.

Premium stuff needs to add to either XP, cash, or both. Or even give a random chance for currency to show up like in the other towns.

    I have typed a lot… this won’t get read.

I bought a bunch of Circus Fences. Put them into inventory. Had about 13. Bought and stored more. Inventory = 13. Took all out of inventory. Put 14 into inventory. Bought a few more. Placed one more in. Inventory = 5. Took fences back out of inventory and they stopped at 5. Had maybe 20 disappear.

I wouldn’t put anything that cost clams into inventory, especially if I wanted to store multiples.

I bought the circus tent, guess the weight, & spin plane thing. The things that are just a little bothersome is when I scroll across the screen sometimes a character will grab on & they get flung out into the woods. I enjoy decorating but for some reason moving items or placing them is very hard for me. Items have to be moved with skill & finesse. I know a lot of people have already said it but sometimes I can’t seem to find everyone. Also I got the brain damaged horse. Love it when he runs majestically.

Another thing I forgot to add is that there should be an alternative way to find friends because I myself do not have a Facebook account nor do I ever plan to get one. 28. I don’t think family guy needs to be the exact same game as tapped out, but for the most part, there is very little benefit to placing premium items in your town. It might be nice to have them add a percentage to the money/experiance, or maybe have premium items shorten task times. I don’t feel any need to spend money on having something like crippletron in my town just for looks, and not improve my gameplay. Also, the game is extremely limited on what you can buy for housing.

    Like

  29. Pros:
The game “looks” beautiful. Great graphics, great choices for character actions and first-rate animations… Road House!

The progression through the different areas/districts of the town make sense and helps with construction of a reasonable looking town. I was a little skeptical at first but once I got into it I loved the way it was done.

The decision to attach jokes to items was great. I’m forcing myself not to look at all of them so I can continue to be surprised and laugh as I work my way through.

Nice incorporation of limited/short term items. I like the clown concept and the Pee Pants outfit for Peter. It’s something that’s very doable if you want and not going to ruin the game if you miss it, especially at a time like this when the game is new and people are still finding it.

    Cons:
The first one is a big one and something I think is really worth thinking about because it’s the whole reason the game was made: there is very limited incentive to purchase premium items. This is one thing that I think the Simpsons game nailed from the beginning. In TSTO if you’re dropping money for donuts to buy the premium decorations and/or characters you obtained a small bonus in all job payouts if you bought a decoration or you got a character who paid out about 50% more than a regular character who did a job for the same amount of time. If you’re paying real money for them they should be “worth it” and they seem more with it if they do something beyond just sitting there. If I’m going to shell out 250 clams (nyuk-nyuk) for a ferris wheel then I need a reason to do it besides “It spins for a bit when I touch it.”

Differentiate between land and water. There’s a small strip of water available to crowd items onto but even that isn’t large enough to hold all the water-items you’re prompted to purchase. The pirate ship looks terrible when placed on land but it at least can be fit into the small amount of water available; Gold Digger Island, however, doesn’t squeeze in, looks equally awful and out-of-place on land and so when I was prompted to buy it I did and then stuck it directly into storage. Ideally it would be nice to expand the playing surface out farther into the water that’s already visible and have some items like the pirate ship, the island, etc. be placable only on those water squares.

I’ll echo what other people have said about timers stopping, i.e.: I set Peter on an eight hour task just before bed, wake up about the time he should be finishing and see he’s still got seven hours and 56 minutes left. I had this problem when I first started with the game and was told it was because I was exiting the app before a character got to their assigned job and that I had to wait before exiting the app. Since then I’ve been careful but it still happens intermittently, including times when I’ve opened the app, collected from a few buildings but sent no one on a new job because they were all not yet finished with previously assigned tasks then returned later to find out that all the timers, characters and buildings both, hadn’t run for more than a few minutes since I last had the app open. I’m not sure what the trouble is, but it doesn’t seem to be characters not getting to the buildings they were assigned to.

Overall I’m very happy with the game. I’ve spent a bit on clams so far and I’m not opposed to getting more in the future as the game continues to develop. I’m incredibly appreciative that TinyCo appears to be trying so hard to get this right and listen to fan feedback. Keep it up, guys. We’re noticing and those of us who’ve battled customer service at some of the other video game companies out there are thrilled by what you’re doing.

    • Just want to add to bettercool’s comment. We shouldn’t have to keep the app open while characters get to their buildings in order for their timers to work, particularly with Herbert walking so slow. I like that characters don’t all walk the same but with a slow moving character I’m not going to wait if I don’t have anything else to do in the game.

  30. I enjoy the feel of the game, it compliments the Family Guy franchise. The timing of this post may not be the best due to many players having frustration with the limited time event. I don’t have as much issue with free players working hard to earn free items and understand companies need to make a profit to satisfy shareholders.

That being said, I find the prices for buildings and decorations a bit random. Lighthouse with Seamus is 3500 while Aquarium with Meg is 10,000. I wish the stores would include the recycle rate for the buildings in addition to the drop amounts. 5/hr is not enough information for me.

Another thing I think would benefit me would be the ability to see how many experience points a character is away from leveling up besides just the bar graph. Perhaps in the character profile.

One addition I hope for the future would be additional means for adding friends.

I do enjoy the game but the pacing seems a bit fast. So many costumes to unlock at the same time. I know it is early in the games release but I worry that I once I unlock all costums I’ll be waiting for the next update with not much to do. This may also relate to many of the complaints of drop rates. I currently have so many different costumes to build and add the character unlocks it’s difficult to prioritize the characters jobs, but this could just be a challenge in the game.

  31. I will reference the simpsons tapped out due to this game being the same as TSTO. I am not bashing family guy TQFS because im elated to have this out. There needs to be a character finder like TSTO. Btw been playing simpsons around 2 years. I have had lois do the headband jujitsu stuff about 30-40 times and not a single headband. Also the clowns are not spawning like they should. There needs to be a way to lay concrete down like roads just like on TSTO so I can cover the pesky grass areas in the city to make it look more developed like a real city. Keep up the outfit challenges cause that puts FG TQFT ahead of the simpsons. Keep up the good work and this will definitely be as great of not better than TSTO.

  32. Well if they are willing to change it on the fly, then they should increase the time frame for this update because I’ve had glitchyness. I boot the game up when I wake, yet I didn’t get anything until near the end of Friday. This cut my hours significantly. Also, I come back nearly every hour and I know it’s definitely been minimum 1 hour as after I splat the clowns, I put Chris on a 1 hour task. Yet sometimes, there is no clown. I zoom in, zoom out, hunt around…nothing. And my clowns never build up. When I wake up, I only ever have 1 of each clown and I’ve been sleeping for 8 hours at least.

It’s irritating how typical it is of these freemium games. It’s possible to get it without using premium currency, but you have to constantly be free so you can boot the game up at every hour so you can get enough and if you slip up or aren’t free to boot it up on a couple of the hours…then you miss out. It’s disappointing. If they extended the period for a day or two, they’d rock soooo much!! Please extend TinyCo and we’d alll love you forever!

  33. – Allow clowns to build up. You go away for say 8hrs and there is only one of each in your town. If I didn’t sleep and checked the town every hour I would have been able to collect 7 more pies and an extra horn in that time. You can’t expect people to check their towns every hour.
    – pie/horn generating items were a bit expensive. 50 & 75 would have been acceptable. If you want more people to buy you need to make it a bit cheaper.

  34. Sorry – forgot to mention something about the Circus Event! I’ve come across a little glitch – I bought two circus fences and at first they showed up fine, but now they’re invisible. I can still tap on them and move them to my inventory, but when I place them back out, they’re invisible again. Weird, huh? (And as the others have said, it would be nice if the event was longer, too)

  35. Good: The two-character tasks, love the animations and how the combined rate is a little bit better than both characters solo tasks for the same duration. Facespace updates are a great touch.

Bad: The “clear land” icons need to be moved to the edit screen and also need to have “no” option added. Twice I’ve accidentally cleared chunks of land when rent collecting because my coin and xp icons landed right by the landscaping icon and before I knew it had just lost thousands of coins to start clearing land I didn’t need (just about had enough to buy the Aquarium and then boom – there goes 7,000 to clear land)

Needing 6, 8 or even 10 copies of ‘rare chance’ items to unlock a character or a costume is simply frustrating. Putting characters through 8 or 12 hours tasks and then not even getting an item for it is ridiculous and when your whole game is backed up because you need just one more item that you’re not getting, it’s enough to make you just quit altogether.

Suggestions: Add some kind of character locator or task tracker. Really hard to find characters when they’re lost among all the clowns, pirates, etc wandering around.

Add a way to cancel a task. With so many multiple simultaneous quests, it would be nice to be able to take someone off a 24 hour task they just started so they can do a 1 hour task that’s in the middle of another quest line.

And lastly, make the borders of each land section more distinct. It’s hard to tell sometimes how much land or what shape each section is.

Thanks for your time – appreciate the attention being given to the game!

  36. I find the game prety amazing & i so loved the clown event! Finaly an event that doesn’t last forever! I think it was great idea to have a short time event. Keeps the tension up. Maybe you have to give 1-2 days more next time for all the players who cry about it, but plz don’t regularly (2-3 times a year i think it’s ok) do extremely large events like 30 days or so.
I would also like to ask about another way to connect with more neighbours except fb & a finder for the characters.
    Keep up the good work!

  37. Clowns are not appearing like they should be… One or two clowns appear every 3-4 hours instead of the posted spawn times. Getting the pies will be impossible now as there is never more that one of each clown type in town no matter how much time has passed. They seriously need to test events before them make them go live. And blatant attempts to “make” players spend money will only lead to the game die off. Just look at the Family Guy MMO.

Also if they were doing an event for the weekend only you’d think it would be Blue Harvest related since Sunday is May 4th…

  38. Just to add to what’s been written here already – I’ve been underwhelmed with the circus update.

I don’t have the money to spend on clams, so I’m limited to what I can earn in-game. It feels like three days is much too short for someone to finish this quest without spending money – it’s 4pm on Saturday, and I’m about halfway there; that’s after spending most of yesterday logging in every hour or so to see if any clowns had spawned. I’ve just gotten the 24-hour Eat Sugar task for Chris, and if I’d sent him on that, I would have been rather put out. As things stand, I’m almost certainly not going to complete this, simply because I’m not going to be able to get online for most of tomorrow.

Aside from that, I’m mostly enjoying the game. In no particular order, the things I’d like to see tweaked are:
    – The town feels very, very cramped – I’ve just unlocked the harbour, and I’ve already gotten a number of buildings and decorations in random spots because it was the only space they’d fit. Hopefully that will improve as I clear extra space, but then again – I’m assuming that each district will have its own new buildings that need adding, so it’ll work out the same
    – I’d love a character finder. Either one to find the next idle character, or any of my characters. It’s frustrating having to click on every building because I can’t remember what a character is doing
    – I’d also love some way to make buildings transparent. My town might be full of clowns hiding behind buildings, but I’ll never know. I did find that buildings go see-through when you try to move them, but that also hides the characters
    – I’m really, really not happy with finding items to unlock characters. It’s incredibly frustrating to have to send characters on a 12 hour task that has a 1-in-10 chance of dropping the item you need. And then to realise that you need another 9 of them.
    – Is there any way to find friends without using Facebook?

That said – I am still enjoying the game. The animation and dialogue are fantastic.

    • This post captures all of my biggest suggestions including the rollout of new buildings that require either an outright purchase or a very cramped town. Needing ten of one item to unlock part of one character is ok so long as the item is delivered at the end of the task. Having items be rare or uncommon after waiting up to 10 hours for a task is absolutely a reason to stop playing. Too many task options for Peter at one time. TSTO had this problem with Homer for a while. Land should unlock immediately when purchased just like Simpsons. Animations and two character tasks are great.

  39. There’s definitely been something wrong with the clown spawning in my game. After doing the quest for ten clowns, I have yet to see more than one of each kind of clown in my town. When I woke up both Friday and Saturday morning, after not touching the game for well over eight hours, I only had one of each type of clown in my town. Even if I had the correct number of clowns in my town, it would be a stretch to be able to finish the costume, but with this glitch there seems to be no chance. In addition, it seems the last clown I pied didn’t drop anything. It’s infuriating enough in the regular game to do quests over and over without getting a drop, but on something like this, with a time limit no less, it’s much worse.

  40. I wish there was a way to see which characters are free vs on a task, it’s hard to visually scour the city and try to remember who you’ve already tapped on. Maybe FaceSpace could link directly to status and costume shopping? And a way to cancel current character actions would be nice 🙂

I agree that the circus event is too short… Chris started a 24-hour task right before I saw the update so I never even had a chance to complete it (without spending a lot of $).

I love the animations, detail, and dialogue!

  42. I also feel that there is a lot of pressure to pay real money throughout the game. I’m not of the fan of the premium currency quest that is always sitting there, staring at you. The circus event makes it incredibly difficult for freemium players to obtain the final reward, if not impossible, and it feels like it is geared towards premium players only. All of this pressure to pay real money in order to progress makes me not want to pay anything at all. I’m no stranger to paying for premium currency in other games though, for example The Simpsons: Tapped Out. I have not encountered pressure to pay for premium currency in that game, and because of that, I find myself willing to purchase some premium currency. I’m sure that if there was a lot less pressure in The Quest for Stuff, people would be more willing to pay for premium currency, on their own terms.

Now for some positives…I love how the characters can interact with each other as some quests require 2 characters. The jokes as well as many tasks are hilarious and keep the game entertaining.

  43. The good:
Clown are large and easy to see/ tap on
Circus decorations on some buildings are a nice touch
Cotton Candy machine was purchaseable with game cash and made part of the quest easy to achieve
Cost of costume declines with each item earned

    The bad:
Very short event; probably too short to complete without buying clams
Only one character capable of advancing progress during the event
Clowns only appear once an hour and it appears you can have a maximum of 2 in your town at any one point after the initial 10 clowns are cleared

    My experience:
I’m an extremely frequent player … When I’m not working or sleeping. Because I had Chris on a 24 task when the event started, I didn’t get to clear the first 10 clowns until the next morning. Then, a long work day meant only getting 5 clowns all day. So, coming into the weekend, I already knew there weren’t enough waking hours to get the 40 additional clowns I needed to get the costume.

    Recommendations:
Have more than 1 prize in an event so that “winning” isn’t an all-or-nothing proposition.
Allow clowns (or whatever comes next) to accumulate longer so that people aren’t disadvantaged by sleeping or working.
Use more than one character, so that having a character unavailable isn’t such a significant disadvantage (or better yet, create an option in the game to end a task at any point without having to speed it up)

    Thanks for listening.

  44. The event is a great addition. However the time limit is far to short. This is a blatant push for money. Doing the math you would literally need to catch every clown just as they spawn to even have a shot. The game itself is excellent. But follow more in the Simpsons ideas of longer and bigger timed events. With the game being so new a timed event was almost unnecessary there is plenty of stuff to get done right now. Please stop pushing for money and let people who appreciate what has been created spend at there own will.

    Thanks for a great game.

I think that when you release a lot of premium items at once you should have at least one to two regular items for every premium item you release so you can keep both your premium and freemium customers happy. Also during any event you should make sure fremium members can win win the main prize or else people will feel that your forcing them to pay money. Other then that so far this is a great game and I hope you keep up the good work! P.S also please never ever make an event based on random odds thanks!

  46. The length of the circus event isn’t long enough in my opinion! There is no way that I am going to get all the objects from the clowns in time, partly because they aren’t spawning properly! It’s fine putting these events in but you have to either give them enough time for the majority of players to be able to get them or cut the amount of objects needed down.

  47. I think TinyCo should be careful, because they are starting to do things that aren’t quite faur to players.
Unless you stick to your mobile phone all weekend, you’re not gonna get the costume, not even close.
Be careful with screwing things up from the beginning, and I say this with tons of respect.
I would say that you extend the event a bit more in order to redeem yourselves.
There’s plenty of time and items to charge real money, but don’t start so soon!!!

    Thanks for listening 🙂

  48. Pros:
Great interaction (love tasks that require 2 characters) and character animation

Money isn’t ridiculously hard to obtain; buildings aren’t obscenely expensive

Much shorter wait times to collect from buildings

Facespace profiles and images perfectly in character and update with levels

    Cons:

Premium pushing is so blatant, let us remove the buy 4.99 clams task

Character unlocking rare stuff (eyeshadow, seashell, heavy metal…) is really frustrating since those are really long tasks

    Lack of decorating items

One thing that really bothers me is the frequent mess up in the clock. Just last night, I set Peter to dance for 8 hours and Chris to enjoy private time for 1 hour. Woke up this morning almost 8 hours later and Peter has 6h56min to go and Chris has 53min to go. While not an everyday occurrence, it does happen a few times per week and is a little annoying.
