Well hello there all you Keymasters and Gatekeepers. Figured you will have a LOT of questions for this event. As usual. So I am putting the general FAQs in a nice lil tidy spot right here for you. Something to keep you tied over until all the details are confirmed in the Live Game. 😉
Here is the breakdown of the basics. We will go into each one in a LOT more detail in separate posts. So keep an eye out for them. So let’s jump into the FAQ’s from TinyCo…
WHAT LEVEL DO I NEED TO BE ON TO START THE GHOSTBUSTERS: QUAHOG HALLOWEEN EVENT?
You need to be up to date to Version 1.3 in your app market. You also need to have District 3 Completed.
WHAT IS THE START DATE FOR THE GHOSTBUSTERS: QUAHOG HALLOWEEN EVENT?
October 2nd, 2014
WHAT IS THE END DATE FOR THE GHOSTBUSTERS: QUAHOG HALLOWEEN EVENT?
November 7th, 2014 (You can view this information by tapping on the Witch’s Cauldron.
WHAT IS THE HALLOWEEN PORTAL?
The Portal opens up into Quahog and demonic creatures spill out of it. You can use the Portal to earn Fright Points. Fright Points will increase your Fright Level. Fright Levels are an Upgrade to the Portal you can do each week to unlock lots of cool new Halloween Content as well as new kinds of ghosts to clear. Ghosts are good, they will drop items you need to progress this event.
HOW DO I GET FRIGHT POINTS?
You can get Fright Points by completing actions, brewing prizes, collecting rent from the Ghostbusters Headquarters, or placing Halloween Decorations. You need the points to also Updgrade to new Fright Levels.
HOW DO I GET SPIRIT VIALS?
In order to get Halloween prizes and unlock Ghostbuster Peter, you will need Spirit Vials. To get them, you will need to clear the ghosts taking over your Quahog. Each one cleared is a possible chance at the Spirit Vials. Just tap on the ghosts to clear them and watch for a Spirit Vial to drop.
There will also be the option to get Spirit Vials from actions, collecting rent from Ghostbusters Headquarters, and the Spirit Dispensaries (Spirit Vial Machine, Spirit Vial Wagon, and Spirit Vial Cart.)
WHAT IS THE SPAWN RATE FOR THE GHOSTS?
Locate the Portal and look for the “NEW GHOSTS TIMER” at the bottom. It will show you when the next ghost will spawn in YOUR town. Of course there will also be an option to speed up this process to instantly if you are willing to part with some Clams. (The Spawn Rate is still a work in progress so it will vary right now, but MORE Ghosts is a good thing. Lol.) You can have a total of 12 Ghosts in your town at one time. This rate will increase later on with your Soul Level.
WHAT ITEMS WILL THE GHOSTS DROP?
You will either get Spirit Vials or Eggs. (And an occasional Clam.)
HOW DO I GET HALLOWEEN PRIZES FROM THE WITCHES CAULDRON?
Each prize will need to be brewed and brewed separately. You will require items to make the brew. These may include Spirit Vials, Terror Dog Bones, or Banshee Tears. Which can be earned by clearing the Terror Dogs.
If you REALLY like a Halloween item and want another, you can collect more items and brew that prize multiple times.
HOW DO I CLEAR THE TERROR DOGS?
In order to get rid of the Terror Dogs, you will FIRST need to have created the Ghostbuster Peter Costume and have it unlocked. After that, you can then clear Terror Dogs as so…
*Tap on a Terror Dog
*Start Ghostbuster Peter on the task to “Zap Terror Dogs”
HOW OFTEN DO THE TERROR DOGS SPAWN?
Much like the ghosts, just tap on the Portal and it will let you know when the next Terror Dog will arrive in YOUR town. (They start appearing the moment the Haunted House is repaired, just can’t tap til Peter is done.) 6 Terror Dogs MAX can be in your town at a time. This will increase later with your Soul Level.
HOW DO I GET GHOSTBUSTER PETER?
In order to unlock Ghostbuster Peter, you need to start the Halloween event. Once you get to the questline for “I AIN’T AFRAID OF NO GHOST” Part 4, you will start to get the ability to earn items needed to unlock Ghostbuster Peter
500 Spirt Vials : Actions, Ghosts, Dispensaries
15 Ghost Dusters (Uncommon): Quagmire, Peter, Jerome, and Macabre Curiosities
15 Fried Eggs (Rare): Gray Ghosts, BoopityBop’s Joke Shop
10 Psychic Cards (Rare): Chris, Bruce, Bonnie, and Madame Google’s Fortunes
You have until the end of the Halloween Event to unlock Ghostbuster Peter. As long as he is complete and walking around your town before the event ends, you get to keep him. If you are still collecting items by the end of the event, you will lose him.
HOW DO I GET DIANE SIMMONS?
In order to unlock Diane, you need to get to the questline “HELL HATH NO FURY” Part 1. At that point you will then start digging up Diane Simmons. Once you repair her gravestone, you will seven days live in game it shows five days to unlock her. Once unlocked and in the game, she is yours to keep. If the time expires before you unlock her, she will disappear from the game and will not return. You have til end of event to do this. (SIDE NOTE: If you have started to dig her up…DO NOT tap the check mark til you are ready to start collecting for her. Once that Headstone is repaired the timer starts.)
To unlock her you will need to Brew the Electricity Ball and Chomps the Zombie in the Witch’s Cauldron. This will require a total of 400 Spirit Vials and 30 Terror Dog Bones. So you may want to get the Terror Dogs Spawning and some Vials stocked up before you repair her tombstone and start the timer. (SIDE NOTE: If you start collection on the items BEFORE digging her up, they will still count towards her. So you can have them brewed already and then dig her up to get her fast.)
A Thank You to TinyCo for listening. They added a lil info to Diane’s grave pop up now when you tap it. Things like this is why I adore them as a company. Listening to their players concerns (and Addicts pestering them. Lol).
HOW DO I GET SLIMER?
Slimer is Exclusive to Android Devices, so in order to see him you will need to be playing on an Android Device. He will appear shortly after “I AIN’T AFRAID OF NO GHOSTS” Part. A pop up will appear in the game when he spawns, so you gotta watch for it so you can take him out quickly. He appears every 8 hours for only 2 mins at a time.
FYI…he is NOT a character. He is more like …another ghost. Just something to zap so far. Will update if it changes. For now, that is it.
This is what he looks like in town. He does blend into the greenery, so keep an eye out. Also, just like characters, he sticks to roads so those hidden ones won’t be of any use to you if he is back there.
We are also seeing a glitch that speeds you through the 3 Slimer’s task. It has been reported. No worries, he will still spawn.
Just like in EVERY Event so far…. STOP… BREATH…DON’T PANIC!!! TinyCo and many many others put a lot of time and effort into this one. So don’t kill the event mood before it even starts. Don’t rush. Keep an eye on here for helpful hints. Wait to spend Clams til you have all the details and/or can make a confident decision. Above all… HAVE FUN!!! (Or I may send Stay Puft and Gozer the Gozerian after YOU! 😉 )

Excited about this event! I’m just finishing up who let the dogs out pt.6 and cool aid pt. 6; is there any point in continuing these quest lines and starting mayor west or should I just work Halloween quests till November ?

EVERY task of Pink Brian (and only character) drops Spirit Vials. More info comin soon on this

unfortunately takes up too much memory on my Nexus 5 and kills other processes, not to mention battery life. Uninstalling until end of event, not too excited about it anyway.

It is not permanent, just something you tap 3 times for a quest to get a few bonus FP and vials. Lackluster at best.

Does slimer drop anything useful like items for characters or is he just dropping vials? I am on iOS but I do have an android device but normally stay on my iOS. Unless I’m missing out?

If you look back at past the past events, in the first, we got the Museum (completely free); Comic Con was the Q Hotel–but unlocked via the prize system; and so for this, it’ll most likely be the Haunted House. There appears to be no current secondary building such as the Clampterprise which was unlocked using Clams in the Robo-Brian Mystery Box. A notable fact to point out, the two buildings that we were able to keep (minus the premium Clampterprise) were on the left-hand side of the event block above the Griffins.
Simply put, we will probably get to keep the Haunted House, possibly premium, but I presume freemium, though we may need to win it out of a Mystery Box (since it isn’t in the prize list) unless they give it to use completely free of charge like the Museum.

This event looks awesome! I play on a kindle but loaded it on my phone just to get a leg up. It sure is tiny though. Question: I used to receive emails when you have a new post but now I don’t. Did I screw something up? Or has this feature been disabled?

I am SO confused as to what everything is for/does… I’m sure it will end up being fun, but I have NO idea what I’m doing yet. I don’t see how to level-up for Mort’s second task… How did everybody finish that one already??

Think of this as a new phone or electronic. Just sit back, give it some time, play around a lil bit. You will get the hang of it. Don’t worry about everyone else. Play at your own pace. Enjoy the game. 😉

For Comic Con, you guys recommended we don’t buy the Blam-generating premium items, and sure enough, it was possible to get plenty of Blam by the end of the event without spending clams. Is it any different this time? Would you recommend purchasing one of the Spirit Vial-generating items?

Never mind, it glitch completed. I was assuming it was on a universal 8hr timer. Regardless it somehow managed to complete itself without me ever actually seeing a Slimer…I call it a win anyway.

My game crashes constantly. I can’t click on the fright points icon without crashing, can’t place the jack o’lantern without crashing, and even if I avoid doing those two things, it crashes within a minute or two. I’ll let them know but with the volume of messages they are getting I’m not optimistic I will hear anything back. Super frustrating as this event looks way cool and I’m hoping these problems get cleared up soon!

Hang in there. You are not the only one. My suggestion, if you can stay in your town long enough try some basic I suggested at bottom of post below to help with lag/crashes.

Anyone else get a Slimer quest bug? I got the quest on my Android phone clicked slimer once, logged out and onto my iPad, somehow I have 2 of 3 Slimers. I log out and back on to my phone and I’ve somehow got all 3 Slimers and complete the quest.

And even still, I’m against platform specific bonuses (especially at this stage of the game) unless it’s to make up for some error or major inconvenience to the players. TinyCo has a LOT of these things it seems in this game. It’s almost like the old Pokemon games where you needed two versions to get everything lol. Except, you can’t trade.

It is a fact of gaming no matter what platform or company. It always has been. Always will be. Card games, board games, electronic games, online games, app games. There will ALWAYS be an exclusive somewhere. It has to do with dealing with competing app markets and creators of games more than anything. Nothing to do with the players themselves.
He drops same as ghosts for what I see.

I designed an app for android. Looked into selling for apple. Platforms require different content. As designer, I prefer only one version. The “owners” of the platforms require exclusive content.

I usually use iOS to play this game on but went on my dads notepad to start the slimer task just like I did with Rollocop. I squashed the first one, then went across to my iPhone and it said is done 2 out of the 3 so I went back to the notepad and he was there again. I squashed him and the task finished but he didn’t unlock…. I’m confused. I know this is probably a glitch but will I get him when they release him? My ghostbusters building hasn’t finished building yet so maybe it has something to do with that but I was wondering if anyone had the same issue?

I agree with Alllen. Even Angry Birds hanged their music with each new event and season. Would be nice if they could get new music for each event.

Legal issues to gain use of even a second of music can get spendy. They are in a whole nother ballgame as they want to pull from series (song now is from it). Angry Birds made their own.

Yes but all thy need is soundalike music (I am a composer) and there is no rights issues with soundalike music. All they need is someone on staff that can compose and record the minute long theme we hear.

This event has some great potential (I thought the ComicCon event turned out pretty awesome). There’s a ghost spawn error somewhere though… My timer has been slowly counting down from around 12 hours, but ghosts have been periodically spawning in my town in the mean time. Don’t know the exact frequency, but I’d estimate about 2 an hour.

Hrmm, checked back in the game again… seems more like 4 an hour. Would love some clarification on the discrepancy (unless that would make them spawn less frequently… shhhh). 😉

Now spent 2 hours reading and I agree fully. This is best tip that needs to be known right away. Others shall develop but this is critical and was also pointed out in FAQ, which I didn’t see till I had read the FAQ 3 times. Saw it first in comments.
Other thing is earning vials – shows where money usually shows, not out to side like quest items. I saw you mentioned that or I NEVER would have seen it, to me those 2 hints were worth 2 hours of reading. Thanks for taking 12 hours to read, play, discover and moderate for us! This site is awesome, I’m ready to play now.

My first Halloween in Quahog and it looks great! I love the orange and brown in the trees. This is my favorite time of the year!
So, I started repairing the Haunted House. What would you reccomend that is purchased next? Would the Ghostbusters building be a good place to start to get things moving?

My game is expiriencing problems. Every time I try to open the game it crashes, and I can’t send an in game mail to tinyco. Help?

Send an email instead.
It is hard to say what causes crashing issues as it varies player to player and device to device. All we can suggest is to try the basics and go from there.

I believe I’ve read through all of the posts and comments and couldn’t find whether this has been asked or not…..will additional premium (clam) buildings be released in the coming weeks or is everything we see currently available it? Only reason I ask is because if these are it, the sooner I can start stockpiling some FPs and other special drop items. However, if we believe that additional buildings will be released in the coming weeks with other special drops, I’ll be more selective of which buildings I get now with clams. Thanks all – and fantastic work on this site!

Honestly, I’m loving this event so far! My favorite holiday is Halloween and my fav childhood movie is Ghostbusters (just saw it in theaters last month for the 30th anniversary re-release and it was amazing on the big screen!), so this event has my name written all over it. The Ghostbusters headquarters is the single coolest in-game building ever, I love that they were able to do this with an official license. There has been some technical issues (constant crashing, rotate the Joke Store and it shrinks, rotate Madame Google’s and it turns into the Joke Store etc.) but I’m assuming that it will mostly be worked out in the next day or two. My only real problem right now is (drumroll please) open space.. I’ve taken a lot of buildings off the board and rearranged everything that I could, but you really can’t put away most buildings due to them being directly linked to character tasks. The problem is that some of these new buildings are freaking HUGE! The GB headquarters, The Paranormal Shop and the Pet Cemetery are all pretty massive and this is just the first week of the event. The headquarters I understand, but the other two just seem unnecessarily large, especially when TinyCo knows that a large number of players are already feeling like they are out of space. Those little technical gripes aside, I think that this is hands-down the coolest event yet and has revitalised my excitement for the game as a whole.

My game now crashes with this update. It crashes at the blue tinyco start up screen, so I can’t send them an in game email abou the problem either. Is this something that is happening to alot of people and are they aware of it and working on a patch for it.

You can email them. I have seen reports off and on, but it is always best to make them aware as the cause may vary by player.
