Trick or Treaters: Corralling The Kids

Update: TinyCo is currently looking into “fine tuning” the trick or treaters and stink bombs.  So bare with them while they see what they can do, to accommodate all of YOUR feedback!  We’ll keep you posted if we hear/see anything else 🙂

Hey there Minions. Getting annoyed at the lil kids? Trying to figure out how you can catch and Stink Bomb the lil Brats? Well I am here to help you out.

Trick or Treaters 1

Now that the newest Portal has been opened, crazy lil kids hopped up on sweeties are running mad around our lil Quahogs. Many are trying to figure out just what to do with them. How do we stop them? How on earth can you get the amount you need for the Challenge? Let’s break it down.

First some basic STATS for the Kids…

WHEN DOES THE CHALLENGE START?
The newest Challenge in your quest to acquire Ecto-1 is to get Zuul’s Portal. In order to do that, you will need to clear 200 Trick or Treaters in 3 days. So here is my suggestion, this quest triggers by Peter shortly after you clear the initial 5 Trick or Treaters triggered by Joe. So hold off if you can, stock up on Stink Bombs, and get a Maze or strategy built to get as many as you can in one Stink Bomb Drop.

Trick or Treaters

SPAWN RATES?
The lil Trick or Treaters will spawn out of the Portal area with the changes to the spawn rates, they now also spawn on sidewalks. Where you are on FP Levels as well as Districts open  will determine your Spawn Rate on these kids. Expect to see at least 2 every 30 mins Minimum and up to 6 Maximum. The total amount you will see will be at least 8 Minimum Total and up to 48 Maximum Total in your Quahog at one time.

So this means the Levels you are on will impact the amount you see and the total amount running around after a few hours. For myself, I notice the FP Level impacted the spawns the most. So make sure if you are getting close to another FP Level, that you are prepared for more to come running out of the Portal and Sidewalks . If you are wanting to get the most out of each Stink Bomb…wait a lil while to let the kids pile up, then hit as big of a group as you can.

If you already hit your MAX and have them running round your town, no more will spawn out of the Portal/Sidewalks (no matter what the timer says as it is just set) until you clear the ones currently running around and no longer are at a MAX.

Stink Bombs

WHAT DO I USE TO GET RID OF THEM?
You will need to use Stink Bombs you collect to destroy the lil Kids. How do you get them? Here a the locations you can find them.

WHAT DO I GET FOR DESTROYING THE KIDS?
You have a mix of items you can win from Stink Bombing the Trick or Treaters. Here are some of the items you will see rewarded.

Now for some fun…

HOW DO I CORRAL THE KIDS?
I tested this theory out last Event and it worked pretty well. This time around is a lil more tricky as the kids just go n go n go n go, so my best suggestion is to form a “Tunnel” effect and direct them all to a specific location. To do this, I made mazes. I used only supplies from the list of Halloween items you can currently get. I used a mix of them…all held up.

I started out by directing the “traffic” coming out of the portal area down into my maze. Then I routed them back and forth until the exited out. This gives me a focal area I can Stink Bomb and hit many at one time. You need an entrance and an exit. You also need to leave it wide enough to allow for walking room. Too narrow and it may force them to just walk on through it all and not follow the path. (I also have my town cut in half right down the middle at all times. This allows me to make a break point to funnel anything to the center.)

With the changes and update to the Trick or Treaters, they are now spawning both at the Portal and on your sidewalks. Due to this, the double maze can help. One to catch as they come out the top, the other to catch as they spawn out the sidewalk and/or to corral those that got away.

Maze 1

I also placed a maze at the other end to direct the Trick or Treaters that got away back into a maze formation to make them easier targets.

Maze 2

This is my lil game and the Maze I built around the main sidewalk (only sidewalk) area to help trap them and keep them to specific zones of my town. Bunny Maze

Now at first some of the kids WILL walk through the items, but as they get used to the new placement of items they will start to follow the newly set route. It will just take a lil patience to let them start to follow the paths.

MAze 3

There is another way you can hit many kids at once, but you will need to act quickly and have Stink Bombs at the ready. Stay out of your game for about 2 hours to let the kids pile up. Then go back in your game and immediately go to the edge of the Portal/Halloween area. As soon as you see the Trick or Treaters start to spawn, drop a Stink Bomb. Depending on YOUR spawn rates, you can get a good group of them this way. Some may still get loose and you will have to catch them in other areas in your town. They will stop occasionally to Spray Paint, but not for too long.

With the changes to the Spawn of Trick or Treaters, be careful as they now spawn on sidewalks too. So you have multiple points of attack to focus on.

Trick or Treaters 2

After you do hit some, you will also see some silly phrases pop up. Here are a few.

Stink Bomb 0 Stink Bomb 1 Stink Bomb 2 Stink Bomb 3 Stink Bomb 4 Stink Bomb 5 Stink Bomb 6 Stink Bomb 7 Stink Bomb 8 Stink Bomb 9 Stink Bomb 10 Stink Bomb 11 Stink Bomb 15

There you go. A bit of a breakdown and some help for those of you trying to get these lil brats out of your game. Lol. Was this helpful to you? Have any tips of your own? Have pics of YOUR maze(s) that you would like to share? Feel free to let us know in the comments below.

  1. So I just looked and it’s changed to 150.. Got 47 with 2 days 14 to get the rest 😀

  2. In your experience, how long does it typically take tinyco to respond to the ingame contact customer service chat? I bought $20 worth of clams and they never showed up in game. It’s been over 4 hours and I haven’t received a response. Pretty ridiculous quests to begin with without spending money- but i’ll be pissed as shit if I spend money and don’t even get my clams to help with the goals.

If they don’t show up soon I’ll be expecting more than what I paid for to make up for it. There’s no excuse for this

  3. Thank you Bunny for this maze walkthru, I appreciate your work.
Having said that, it’s just ridiculus how TinyCO is doing this tasks in game. Especially ‘bombing taks’ and ‘time limited’ (Diane or Francis undigging). I realy hate ‘bombing task’ and that recently game is forcing me to check for spoilers or the tasks will became undoable.
During comic-con event I have cleared whole Quahog and later had to remodel it back. I am not doing it again. Cannot be bother to destroy my Quagog and loose time to do this back and forth, this game should be casual and it’s drifting away from that. If upcoming Amercian Dad event is going to give us ‘bombing task’ or ultra short time to do the task (similarly to Diane’s task where I undigged to fast) I will uninstall the game. The game should be fun and it’s starting pissing me off more and more.

  4. One more fix: they added Bruce to the list of characters able to generate stink bombs. His task is also 4 hours! This goal is looking more attainable now. 🙂

  6. I had 0 spawn all day until about 30 minutes ago. I’ve got a little over 40 now with exactly 2 days to go, but no more bombs. It’s nice that TinyCo responded to the feedback (I sent an in-game message expressing my frustration as well as concern that I wasn’t getting new trick-or-treaters spawning this morning) and the changes seem to be helping. I don’t feel like the goal is impossible anymore, but only time will tell if it’s realistic.

Thank you, as always, for offering tips as well as acting as a sounding board for your fellow players’ gripes.

  7. Thank you, built a maze and for the first few spawns they just went out the sides but on the third spawn they followed the path, started the day with 11 (lol) now I got 97! Again thank you.

  9. I have 9 districts unlocked and I’m at FP level 4. The most kids I had come out of the portal is 6. How are you guys getting 15-16? Is it your FP level?

  10. I’m glad they reduced the requirement to 150 but my previous method of waiting for them to spawn from the portal no longer works. This time when I went back in after two hours all the treaters were back roaming my town and none came out of the portal. 🙂

Be interesting to see if this affected others as well. Feeling frustrated.

I just cleared a chunk and I’ll wait to see what happens in an hour or so, but I had the same concern. Last time I opened it, the kids were everywhere and only six came out of the portal ( I had been clearing 12-15 at a time.). I’m really close to the 150 mark, but was hoping to keep racking up here a little 😀

      Like

    • Yes, same happened to me. Then a couple of hours later I actually SAW them spawn in a puff of smoke, all over the town. It wasn’t even limited to just the roads either, so the tactic used for Minion Stewie of reducing the road to one section probably won’t work. My maze feels useless now, but at least it got me a decent start.

  12. Am not sure if this is a glitch. Accidentally started the 3 day portal quest. Was planning on stocking up on bombs before doing so. Somehow, my count already shows 68. The game may have been taking into account kids I have bombed even before I started quest. If this is the case, which I am not sure of, players may be able to bomb at their own leisure (without the stress of timer running out) and just start the quest when near the intended target count.

  13. So glad that not only do we get the xenomorph, they also changed the challenge number from 200 to 150. I already bombed 76, so 150 is easily doable. Huge sigh of relief. So glad TinyCo is a company that actually listens to its players.

  14. Nope we need to clear 150 trick or treater’s not 200. Read the challenge. The counter says 200 but the text clearly says clear 150 trick or treater’s in 3 days and win ..

  17. I’m having the same problems as other people. I’m max level with every part of the map unlocked. I’ve got about 5 Demond kiddies running around after waiting 14 hours. I don’t understand how some people are getting 48 while others at Max level with everything unlocked have a half dozen. I have all the characters unlocked (along with their costumes and I have 2 people who can get stink bombs (jake and costume Meg), not the 6 posted.

Oddly enough, my gf is the same level as me (max level and everything unlocked) doesn’t have these issues. She did try the maze thing and it doesn’t work. It wouldn’t matter either way, after doing the math on it, the 200 isn’t possible without buying bombs. Works out to about 170 (because people don’t play 24hrs, they sleep.

Like othes have posted, we should not have to redesign our town to complete a quest, that’s just beyond wrong on so many levels. This keeps up, expect the game will die off after xmas.

We should also not have to contact tinyco on anything. If we are paying customers, these updates shouldnt be as Buggy as they are, nor should they require you to drop constant cash.

  18. I’m really disappointed with the rate getting the stink bombs. I wouldn’t even mind spending clams on them but the cost for 24 bombs is way too much & that wouldn’t even be enough for me to get the timed challenge done. 😦

Dont think I will be able to complete this one, 2 days left and so far 40/200, I have max fright level and been hitting 4/5 with each bomb but cant produce anywhere near enough bombs, there also doesnt appear to be enough kids spawning to actually hit 200 anyway as Ive had no more than 10 at one time running around.

      Like

      • You are completely incorrect. The message states they are Clearing out the messages and focusing on only those still in need. (As many players issues are resolved by patch or by player realizing solution) And if your issue was not resolved already, reply back to stay in tech queue.

This is a must in any company to not waste time on issues that do not exist anymore and allow more free time to focus on remaining issues.

      Like

      • It takes at least 4 hours for the “code to take effect”, and that’s time we don’t have. Plus, I’d love to send you the screenshot I just took of three of the kids WALKING ON WATER, one of them as far as 6 tiles deep (Certainly deeper than I can place a building), just to avoid going in my maze. I have buildings right next to each other, they still walk. I have hedges cutting my town in half, they still walk. You *CANNOT* get out of the hole if you have no bombs and ~40 kids already in town. It will take more time than we have.

  26. I just came across a problem that I’m wondering if anyone else has seen. I was all prepared to take out some kids in my maze with my one remaining bomb, when to my surprise, I had no bombs left. The counter said I had one, but when I went to target them, it showed zero left. Any ideas?

  27. Thanks for this Bunny. I made a somewhat smaller maze than yours, partly because I’m unwilling to destroy much of my town, and partly because I’m too cheap to pay more Spirit Vials for more bushes. I think it should still be enough just to delay them while I get over to the portal to bomb them though. I’ll see how it goes.

Sadly I already had a ton marching around my town, and I’ve only had one single bomb drop all day, so I splashed out clams on a pack of 12 in order to clear out the majority and let them start spawning again. I just hope I won’t need those clams later. If only bombs were a guaranteed drop, or a faster drop, or we could ‘freeze’ the brats… any one of those would have made this so much better, but the combination of uncommon long-duration tasks and unstoppable demon children just make this one a killer.

    • This is why I made two. One for those about to pop out…the other to trap the “runners”. Lol.

You don’t have to use items for this event. I only did to show options currently available. Any hedge will do. 😉

Even lava fences if you have those.

      • I’m using chain link fence and it works just fine. No clams or spirit vials needed.

        Like

      • That’s not true. I don’t know how long the “coding has to take effect”, but I placed hedges 4 hours ago and they are all still walking right through it. There isn’t enough time to sit and wait for them to acknowledge it’s a wall, and then adjust it and wait another X hours again … the timer is going and going and I can’t even get the setup, never mind the bombs.

Sorry, I’m just disagreeing with you on this one, Bunny. It’s not gonna work if you’re too far behind the set up. And that’s poor design.

        Like

        • I guess you missed the part in my dialog where I said that some WILL still go through. But only like one or two. The rest…just need a bit to find it and it works just fine. Many are successful.

This also is an OPTION. We are providing variety to players asking for other ways to trap them. YOU do not have to do it. It is YOUR choice to. But that does not mean you have to be negative about us helping those that DO want the info and asked for it specifically. If this post does not cater to you, that is fine. It is not for everyone.

  28. I’m going to give the maze a try.

What I’ve done is remove all of my roads, bar one segment and then made a maze route that takes a while to get to, with another route.

So far, the kids are adapting to it, but some are still roaming free. But then it takes time for the code reset, so I’ll wait until two hours to see how it goes. I think I have about 3 hours before I have another bomb drop (hopefully). If it works, then I will be happy bunny…pun not intended.

None of my characters can create bombs yet

I want to create bombs before triggering challenge

I have roll out part 1- the tutorial- but have not begun it, as I want to create a stockpile of bombs first.

Do you know which quest/number triggers the ability to make bombs??

Do I need to do the tutorial (part 1), then stop, or will that trigger the kids??

  32. I have yet to start bombing but I have a maze of fences just outside the event area that seems to herd the ones that wander in. My strategy is to build up at least 20 bombs before I start. When I do, I’m going to clear at least 15 trick or treaters then wait 1 1/2 hours to log in to the game again & use a bomb as soon as I see the spawn. Hopefully I will get 15 with each bomb & should be above the 200 mark 19 1/2 hours (13 bombs) after clearing the initial 15. That means I’ve got to start about this time tomorrow & no sleep until sometime Sunday.

  34. back in the comic con event, I was able to coral the stewie crawler octo-thingies (I’ve clearly forgotten the name) without redesigning my town. I tapped on one when I saw one. This caused it to do an animation that paused it in place. & kept doing so until another one came nearby & so then I tapped on the 2. So on, & so on. I think the most I could tap without one escaping before I could switch to the bomb was 10.

Do you think that tactic would work here? (currently waiting for respawns)

    Like

    • It doesn’t. They pause for a few seconds to spray…but that is it. They move fast too. So it is more to catch them at the portal, round edges or narrow “funnel” points in town, or resort to making a maze to corral them. 😉

      Like

  35. My thinking is that we shouldn’t have to resort to “tricks” in order to complete a challenge. Spirit vials add up rather slowly for this event as well so I won’t be burning them to get tons of Halloween bushes for a maze. I’m also not the type that likes to tear apart my town to make room for such things. However, I do think I just may achieve the challenge barely even though I totally wasted the first handful of bombs I received, but if I do it’s because I made my first ever clam pack purchase to get more bombs and make up some ground.

This was the first time I wasn’t patient to see if they would increase a drop rate to make something more achievable, or just said I’m fine not getting it done. I’m rather convinced the bomb drops will increase over the week but the initial rate for 200 kids is pretty low for players that can’t be extremely diligent with clock and method.

  38. So you are saying, if you already have some in town they will eventually walk back into the maze and regroup, or are you just saying that once the maze is placed, and the code “sticks”, then the kids will not walk through the walls of the maze any more?

Thanks I like the double maze idea, I’m going to build it before I begin the challenge and using the haloween items to build it may increase my fp to a higher level helping my spawn rate (I’m d8, almost done with stewie, got carter yesterday and I’m high level 3 on fp, May get to 4 with deco purchases).

This serves a dual purpose. A few here and there may still sneak on by, but mine are all now following a pretty lil path and I am targeting 10-15 a hit. FYI…ADDING a bunch of these decorations gives you FP…which means higher FP level…which means MORE kids to bomb. 😉

  42. Ya you shouldn’t have to create a maze to do the event, it’s just asinine.

Already a hoard of problems with the event:

1). The only characters showing to drop stinkbombs at the moment is Meg, bonnie and brian. Mort, jake, and brian do NOT have a stinkbomb job. Also, why are they 8hr tasks yet most tasks for bombs for stewy on the last event were 2hrs and that was barely doable at the time?

    2) They are not respawning at the rate claimed. It’s been 12 hours since I last used a stinkbomb and there are only 3 demon kids in the yard. I removed all my buildings so I can see the map clearly. Only 3 kids; even if I had unlimited stink bombs, there isn’t enough kids.

    3) the guide does absolutely no good when you’ve already dug up for the next timed character. There needs to be a disclaimer in the game BEFORE digging up so players have the option, or don’t make it a timed event.

Additionally, last poll posted about Diane simmoms showed only 11% of people got her . Does tinyco not learn? Geez this isn’t diffiucult…

    • Ok. I get people are upset, but please take those complaints to the WTH post. NOT here where we are trying to provide information on how to create a maze. We get you are upset, we get you do not like this aspect in the game, but please place your replies in the appropriate location. Keep this post to ONLY what it’s content is about. And that is helping others to corral the kids.

1: Will depend on who you have unlocked and where you are in the quests. All have the Stink Bomb tasks for me. If yours do not, you need to report it.

2: Will depend on your level of FP and District. If you are not seeing the Minimum drop rate and no more spawning, you need to report it. They are spawning as stated in all 4 test games on 4 separate levels.

      3: Let them know that.

The rest can got to WTH or utilize your in game menu, help, contact…and report your thoughts to TinyCO.

      Thanks.

Depending on YOUR spawn rates, you can get a good group of them this way”.

This is what I’m doing and it’s working perfectly. I did have to use some bombs initially to lower the overall total in my park, but now every 2-3 hours I’m nabbing 12-16 each time. The key is making sure you ALWAYS have a bomb available to nab them so as to prevent your park from maxing out again.

    Awesome job Bunny!

  44. TWO HUNDRED IN THREE DAYS?! This is ludicrous. You shouldn’t HAVE to do overly complicated set ups like this to even stand a chance. Some of us love our towns the way we have them. We shouldn’t HAVE to reorganize our towns every month or 2 to even slightly come close to fulfilling a challenge. Not to mention the drop rates and times of the quests that drop stink bombs ENSURES you’re going to need to buy the max amount of bombs in order to even come close.
I call shenanigans and if TinyCo doesn’t remedy this,I call quitsies.

    • In ANY game out there I have been playing since childhood…there is ALWAYS a strategy to play the game in a better, quicker, easier way. No it does not follow the standards the game may have intended, No you do not HAVE to do it, but it is all in how YOU would like to play the game. This post may not fit ALL players, but NOTHING in the game is for ALL players. So options and methods are used to provide alternate ways. This is MY alternate way. Many are working at it just fine hitting them at the Portal. This is just an option readers asked for. You do NOT have to do it if you do not want.

I get you do not like the Trick or Treaters, so let TinyCo know. Tell them how it is playing out for you. Your struggles. Your difficulties. Our feedback has helped to improve this game many times. 😉

      • Althought the point is moot now, being as they are trying to fix it. I did want to clarify that I wasn’t trying to insult your idea. On the contrary, it’s quite creative and inventive. Figuring out how and what herded them must of taken a lot of time. And it IS impressive!
What I’m trying to say is that the adds should come with a trick ,in the update itself. Like, for example, the mutant Stewies, you could just tap them. Keep tapping one until another shows up,tap them both until another shows up,then tap all 3 etc etc until you got a group of 10ish grouped together, then bomb. This one now has no trick attached to it. It was either take however long it takes to redisign your town to herd them, or HOPE you have a bomb, good time keeping skills and a lot of luck.
But, again, the point is moot now. I just didn’t mean to insult your set up, if I did.

  45. I still find that keeping my regular town layout is just fine since it has the classic “H” shape for the roads near the centre of town which naturally funnels the little ankle monsters.

  46. Bunny, would rectangular hedges work?
And why don’t you just make an area close to the portal without exit? Or would that cause them to just walk through.

    • Did you check your inventory and all your counts to see if you still won something? If not, I would suggest to reach out to TinyCo so they can verify too. 😉

  48. The problem here is that once your town is full of the max kids, it takes more bombs to try to clear them out for the maze-enabled scenario … and the pace you gain bombs does not keep up with the pace that they respawn. If I have 48 kids in my town, I’m gonna need a ton of bombs … and when I use the first 2 or 3, then there is less than max kids .. they spawn, walk through my maze .. and right out of it into the world because I’m out of bombs. It really feels like the only way to get on top of it is the initial purchase of 15 bombs.

The main difference between this and Comic Con was that you can get bombs from the nerds, giving you a chance to at least get started before you were inundated. Without that, I don’t see a way to not fall into the deep hole that is too hard to climb out of.

    • Using a maze…it does not. I had my town maxed…had a few bombs…made the maze…waited. Once the coding locked in, I was able to clear them all out within a matter of like 5 mins. Then as more respawned the next go round…I hit them too.

It will vary by player as the minimum and max are varied…but I found this to be the best alternative to do it. All I can suggest outside that is let TinyCo know.

      • I dunno, I’ve managed to succeed in every timed event since before Comic Con, and I’m not even close to corralling this guys now. It’s not like we have a lot of time to get it figured it out, either. The clock is ticking on the solution as well as the 200 in general.

        Just frustrating.

    • They did with mine…at first. Once the coding locks in…they fall in line with mine. I got the new ones coming out…and with patience…the ones running round my town.
