Player Alert!! DO NOT GET SCAMMED!

Hey there Tribblemakers!

Bouncing by with something a bit more on a serious note. Sit tight as this subject may not be a pleasant one for some, make others a lil nervous, and spark some controversy… but I CAN’T just let this slide. Too many paid for it last time….

1 (4)

Once upon a time, there was another game many of us started playing. Sadly, some VERY wrong doing went about and THOUSANDS of players were scammed into a massive fraud scandal. Many had their bank accounts wiped out, personal identity compromised, and so much more.

Make you a lil scared? Well you should be. Scammers are always out there, just waiting for some innocent or unknowing bystander to pray upon. So why am I bringing this up now? It happened in the past, so why does it matter? Well… it is back. This time it is geared towards players of THIS game. No I will not name names nor link the sites. I am well aware of who they are and what they did last time.

Offers of “specialized altered” games for a “small fee” may seem nice, especially when frustrated with the game, but that is when those meant to do harm strike hardest. When you are at your weakest. They see the profits they can make, and do not care who gets hurt in the process. I am here to tell you DO NOT DO IT!! DO NOT BE SCAMMED!! You are putting yourself at risk doing so. Not just risk of losing the game itself (because as we saw not too long ago “altered” games will NOT be tolerated) but you are also putting YOURSELF at risk. It is just not worth it. Not for anyone. Not to mention it is illegal to sell a game you do not own.

Every heard of viruses? Malicious attacks via computer hacks? Well, if you are putting something on your device created OUTSIDE of TinyCo… what else are you putting on with it? Who’s to say what else is within that coding NOT legal? How much personal information is on that device with the game? How much information did you just give to a stranger? Just not a wise idea.

This is the #1 reason we have our Addicts Guidelines. I watched as fellow players were drawn into the scam lost so much more than a game. People’s lives destroyed in a blink of an eye and are STILL trying to get their Identity back to this day, 2 years later. Money saved up for years, gone in an instant. It was not a pleasant experience at all.

I am doing now what we did then as a community. Getting the word out and hoping it spreads FAST so others will not be drawn in again. Please share this and let others know too. Make them aware.

Short story long, play the game as intended. Anything else is just a risk not worth taking. As always, we are here watching out for you. In many ways you may not even see or know, but we are.

  3. Love your post. I’m a database manager, and when you work with tech it is easy to overestimate the general publics savvy in regards to this kind of stuff. And the humiliation that people who fall prey to these scams, the disparaging comments they hear, cause them assume they deserve it. And let’s be clear; NO ONE DESERVES IT.

Should we all know better when something sounds too good to be true? Sure. But I know I’ve had times in my life when I was down enough, frustrated enough, that maybe hope would have overridden my common sense. And these kinds of scams happen in so many other areas too. A psychic whom will tell you that last words of deceased loved on for a few thousand dollars. A dr who has a special elixir that can cure your cancer.

We all are human and all have times we get hurt. So good for you gals for supporting this community and watching out for it so carefully. I hope the rest of us can be as supportive in return. I have no knowledge of what happened last time, but you are doing a fabulous job in preventing it again. But then again, I wouldn’t expect anything else from either of you.

  4. Is anyone else having trouble loading the game since the last update because I just keep getting load error and can’t get into my game at all . I ‘ve already lost my original game that I started from day one and played till just after Christmas and I spent money on it too but they haven’t sorted it out so I started a fresh game and obviously everything that’s been up until Christmas is no longer available so all the special items and characters I don’t have anymore and now I can’t get into this new game which I have also spent money on to progress through the star trek avent and I’m getting really annoyed with it now .

But here is my concern: THEY SIMPLY REMOVED SARONG HERBERT FROM THE POSSIBLE PRIZES ON AWAY MISSION!!!! I think you may not see this since you might have got him, but I didn’t and still was looking for it. There were no advice at all he would be agailable for a limited time, instead, it you look at the Star Trek help, they say that he is available as drop, and that neither them can stop seeing him!! Omg!!!

    • Paypal may refund your money, but will they pay attorney fees to get your identity back? The money wiped out of your bank accounts outside the fee you paid? Nope

    • This doesn’t have to do with the particular incident that happened here, nor downloading anything illegal, but speaking of paypal, some years ago, I had my PayPal acct hacked. They were able to wipe out my entire checking acct in one day. Fortunately, my bank reimbursed me because I was able to prove the fraud committed against me. I now have safeguards in place, to ensure the tighest possible security when making online purchases. But don’t ever think you are truly protected by any online site. A good hacker can hack anything. That includes that site you think is protecting you.

  9. It is hard for me to feel bad for people that fall prey to this swindle. It is a free game, and at no time ever are you required to purchase anything. Clams are a luxury item for speeding up progress or the outright purchase of unique content – the game functions perfectly fine without them (yes, a bit frustrating at times, but fine nonetheless). I cannot fathom why a person would pay real money so that they do not have to pay real money.

I make every effort to keep my game at the free level, but I am not above using some clams for certain things. When I do, I consider the real world cost as it pertains to said virtual item (emphasis on virtual – when TC shuts off the servers in 10 years or so, what will I have to show for it?). Simply put: if I cannot afford it, I can live without it.

In this case, greed has turned in on itself. The greed of the scammers taking advantage of the greedy players who want something for nothing. Shame on both sides. I understand that some of these people are in a bad situation because of these shenanigans, but they made the choice to cheat – so have a little personal accountability.

Don’t get me wrong, people should be made aware of this to prevent others from getting conned. After all, it is just a game. If someone wants to shell out real-world money for clams, then they should enjoy the fact that they can. If you cannot afford to, then be graceful about it. Is it worth handing over your savings and/or personal information just so you can buy all these neat little trinkets that only exist inside of a game? No, it is most certainly not.

We are all players by our own choice, and there is no reason we cannot be smart about it – so beware the serpent at the doorstep… Seriously, just play the game and have fun.

    • I do not think you understand what happened during this entire ordeal, so your response could not be more wrong or inaccurate to what went down.

Let me sum it up this way… Imagine myself and/or Alissa putting up a post on the site here. A site MANY come to and trust for accuracy and truth. A site that we constantly go to TinyCo to make sure of that accuracy and honesty. Let’s say we put up a BIG SPECIAL on the site. We post “Just this week for our exclusive readers… straight from TinyCo, we will take your game and add 10 of ANYTHING you want in it… plus 5 million coins & 50,000 Clams… all if you “donate” $10 to the site. All as a HUGE thank you from us to you for being such amazing readers.” Knowing us and knowing our contact with TinyCo and stance on hacking or altered games, would you take the deal? Would you trust us and willingly hand it over? Make the “donation”?

Plain and simple, MANY were misled. Many who had put their trust in a place for a long time. NO ONE knew hackers had taken it over. NO ONE. They locked ALL writers out of the site. So comments, all said how “great” the offer was. Thanking those providing the offer for negotiating such an awesome gift on behalf of their readers. All being padded by the hackers.

Put yourself in that situation and tell me you wouldn’t be persuaded. It all comes down to NOT judging others. I see your point and get it, but do not attack others for being misled. So bad to the point even the game house thought it was legit and had to start an investigation to see who authorized it. Story goes on n on.

Just do not jump to conclusions or make accusations on something or people that did not know any better. 😉

      • Where do I send the $10 😛

        Like

      • Well, you said yourself that this may spark some controversy, and I suppose my comments may have been deemed as such. I am merely saying that in this technology-driven world we live in, people should be that much more vigilant against would-be scammers.

In your example about the “$10 donation” to this site – no, I would not take your offer. To clarify: I come to this site -and only this site- as the authority on TQFS. I rely on the information you ladies provide to help navigate the craziness of the game – as well as comments from other helpful players. I recommend this site to anyone else I know who plays the game. That being said, while I absolutely trust your information regarding the game -and appreciate all your efforts to that end- I am simply not going to give you access to my game for any reason. No offense. I would happily donate money in exchange for some offered novelty (t-shirt, poster, sticker, etc…), but never access to my game. I love you ladies and the work you do, but that “offer” just sounds too good to be true…

My original comments were specifically directed at those who knowingly and willfully purchased what you described as a “specialized altered” game. Okay, so some were misled, but knowing how they were might help others prevent that from happening to them. If anything, your elaboration in response to my original comment has helped to shed more light on the situation (since that specific information was not included in the original post) – and hopefully arms people with more knowledge to fight this. I just want people would understand what is at stake here. If people are to have any chance to combat this scheme, they need to know what to look for – and I hope that everyone is paying attention.

Sorry for any offense that might have been implied or taken, but this is real threat that needs to be taken seriously. Only with an open dialogue and the sharing of knowledge can we defeat it…

        • I get that. I just wanted you to know this post is to help, your comment seemed quite accusatory to others and could be viewed quite negatively.

All I am asking is no name calling or judgement towards others that this happened to. It was that same kind of treatment that caused many to feel attacked and that they would be made fun of to not come forward when it first happened until it was too late to help them.

There is always a better way to phrase things than blatant accusations. 😉

        • In a large way I agree. I believe in karma as a factor of human nature, not as a super natural balancing. Greedy people tend to want lots of stuff for very little and then get surprised when they get taken in by other greedy people, such as Nigerian princes.

Greedy people attract greedy, nice attract nice, etc.

That said, I wouldn’t wish identity theft on anyone.

One thing to always remember, TinyCo does not need your password to gain access to your game. Should there ever actually be an offer of free clams for a donation, all that should be required are player IDs.

I have been wanting to ask you for a while now…
Is Blustacks a part of this, and if not is it ok to use it for this game? Is that considered ” stealing, or cheating?
I have it on my computer and have tried a couple of games but never this one. I on’t want to cheat or anything like that, I just want sooooo bad to play my game on my computer. ( Not the windows version, lol I have it and it kinda blows).
Seemed like the best place to ask…

    • I will let it go as none of those I contacted ever stated it was illegal to use. More of a “use with caution”. I myself tried Bluestacks. It was viewed as more of a “hosting” type application. A way to view Mobile Apps on a PC. I do know for many apps, it was just never stable enough to handle them. So I stopped using it. TinyCo’s game I could never get to work on it. They tried the Windows version, but it is still bordering BETA and limited as it is a Stand Alone from the Mobile.

There may be more to it now, but I have not researched it further as the two games I speak on didn’t work properly on it. I can ask TinyCo on it again and let you know their thoughts if you would like. It mainly comes down to WHAT version of the game are you playing with it. If it is legit and unaltered, it should be fine. If the game coding was altered or changed in anyway by Bluestacks, that is not a legally protected game anymore. Hope that all makes sense. 😉

        • It is a Stand Alone… it was never intended to be EXACT to the Mobile Version until they could test out its capabilities. For now, it is updated as much as it can. They are still working on other ideas on it, but nothing new so far. Think of it as a BETA version

  11. What about those free sites? I’ve seen mods of the main subreddits for TO and TQFS endorse them, and threads with thousands of replies with positive feedback

This is where you wouldn’t download anything, they would just have your login details (with a different password than your normal one) hack your game giving you what you want, and then you log back in check it and change your password again

Hopefully that’s not too much identifying information, it didn’t make sense any other way

    • I do know what you are asking. Those are ALL Illegal Hacks. You are taking a huge risk using any of them. You are giving them access to your game. How do you think they are adding these items? They are putting the hack on their device into your game. This will cause MANY issues down the road. Especially if you need tech support. Tech support on BOTH games can tell the games are altered. EA has gone as far as shut out and refuse any help at all to those with obvious altered accounts. The ones I am referencing in this post have taken it REALLY far and ruined lives so we are on top of them.

What you do in your game is same as in life, it is YOUR choice. But I will make sure people are well aware of the risks.

    • Think of it this way, what is there to stop them from changing your temporary password to something else and then never telling you that new password? They can then buy all the donuts they want on your dime.

  13. What about one that you don’t have to pay for? I know someone that tried to download a free “hacked” version that promised limitless clams and coins, but he said it didn’t work and he somehow got a different app instead. Should I tell him to be worried? And what can he do if it does turn out to be a scam?

    • As I have said, the files and coding are altered from the LEGAL copy TinyCo made. What else is in there? What else was added? I do not trust altered games. It probably didn’t work as it was an illegal copy. They can’t update properly or work properly.

I would delete it off the device if I were him and wipe the files. Keep an eye an anything else strange that happened round that time too. Like accounts on the device for other apps or items accessed unauthorized. Just be safe and protect yourself. Hopefully it was just a generic hacker and not these guys.

      • Thank you for your advice! I called him this morning to let him know and he said that he restored his phone to factory settings shortly after downloading it, for fear of it being a scam. Is that enough? He told me the name of the website he got it from (not sure if I’m allowed to post it), and that he never gave the app itself personal information, just downloaded it onto his phone.
Is there any place where he can contact you in a more private setting, or someplace he can contact to help him through his specific situation?

  14. To everyone out there, to be clear there is no issue with the game itself. If you downloaded the game from the appstore for your device then it is fine. It is also fine to purchase clams within that game downloaded from the appstore. It is when you buy accounts or game data from anywhere else that you are at risk.

I was part of the crowd around when the initial scams for that other game occurred but was fortunately far too suspicious of the offer they were making to fall for it, even though they made it extremely tempting. That’s what they do, they offer you something that you think is a great deal, something that will help you get the most from the game with minimal cost and only take the real cost out of you later.

Just don’t give your details to anyone outside of the game and you should be fine. Ever. And don’t even do it if someone you trust online says it is a good thing. If Bunny here were to post saying what a great thing company x has that can get you ahead in the game, don’t trust her, because it isn’t the Bunny you know because they would never promote a hack to the game. That’s how a lot of people got hurt last time though, they used the name of a trusted source to promote themselves.

Fortunately this time TinyCo has already been contacted about it and the should be shut down relatively quickly.

    Take care of yourselves players.

(PS: Bunny, were you aware of the situation before Em contacted you guys?)

I was just becoming aware when she contacted me… I explained over there, but will again here… I have kept a watchful eye on them since it all went down then. And I will continue to keep an eye on them. The pain and hurt they caused to so many players I had come to view as friends makes me sick to my stomach.

I, just like last time, want the word out there… this time BEFORE it gets to that point. I will protect players of these games with every fiber of my being. Will fight to the end to rid people that do sick things like this. People are not around for others to abuse for their enjoyment. It is just not right.

What I’m about to say isn’t in any way a dig at the magnificent job Alissa & Bunny do to help us through some tough events & providing us with much needed info on what to do when… where… & how…
So please read to The End…

I’ve started losing interest in this game, mainly because I’ve spent lots of cash for clams to buy premium characters & buildings that I never use again, they sit in my Inventory doing nothing, nada, zilch, not even a dime in interest earned…
    Plus…
TinyCo make it increasingly harder to achieve THEIR targets, goals & drops!!! (I think you’ll all agree)… Having said that… they are a business, & need to make a profit to survive…

Sadly tho’… I’m also losing interest in this awesome website, which I visit at least 4 or 5 times a day to get info on what I should do next in the game & how not to waste time & clams….

Why?… Because more & more often I find the site is turning into:
    A bitchfest…
    A slanging match…
An argument, “started” by those needing help with those providing the help…
A place where nasty attitudes surface, regularly…

    And…

A place where gratitude is the emotion often replaced by anger & frustration…

    Alissa & Bunny… I salute you both… you do a sterling job… &
You put up with more *** than you can fit in a skip, never mind a poopy bag 😉

The Scammers work outside of the App Markets. If you say… get an “offer” to buy them or download via email, ebay, paypal, or “loaning out” your account information to them so they can add the items… those are all ILLEGAL and Red Flags for scammers.

    • Self hosting can’t handle the traffic we receive. We’ve tried it on our other site and promptly crashed the site. In order to self host with the traffic we get it would cost over $1,000/month.
With wordpress.com we’ve never crashed (knock on wood) and they easily can handle the traffic flow we get on this and our other site.
But even if we were self hosted then the ads would be controlled by google…Same concept

      • unless you sold the ad space directly cutting out the middleman. if the sites popular enough to crash servers it would deffinately get the attention of potential advertisers and with no middle man you would get a higher cut of the revenue and with any luck it should more than cover the costs of a server that could handle your traffic load.

    • We tried other methods… so far NO ONE has been able to host our site in a stable manor. The ones we tried… we crashed their servers every 5 minutes if not faster. Even at their highest “tiers” of hosting. Others that might be able to host us… the cost is out of the roof.

I would not do it myself but do understand why the people get suckered when game makers make things so expensive or to hard, the scamners try to take advantage offering help for a small fee, but are only helping themselves. Thanks for the heads up, shame you never mentioned the name of these people so we can instantly know who they are, for those that do not know… I play properly…… Sometimes I get narked, mostly at the Simpsons game, but I work though it and carry on.

    • Again… WE DO NOT CONTROL THE ADVERTISEMENTS. It is all handled by WordPress (those that host this site) and all works just like Google in that the ad will reflect what YOU search online. If you search Coffee makers all day, all you will see is adverts on coffee on the site. In a way YOU control the ads. So please don’t assume something or suggest you know when I have already stated that we do NOT control them. NOT AT ALL. If we did, I highly doubt any of you would see the adverts you do see. So again, do not take the focus off of what this post is intended for to argue something. That is ridiculous.

I will not mention their names as I do not want others seeking them out specifically or going to their sites. Also there are other actions in process and I do NOT want their trolls here. We dealt with them before.

    • FYI… there is a link… RIGHT above each ad… it takes you to here…
      https://wordpress.com/about-these-ads/

      Which states…

      About These Ads
The site you just visited is part of WordPress.com. There are two reasons why you might see ads on a WordPress.com site:

      1. The site is part of the WordAds program and has elected to show ads to earn money from their site.
      2. The site is one of the sites hosted on WordPress.com that has not purchased a paid plan, and we are running ads to cover the costs of operating the site for the user. We run these types of ads sparingly in an attempt to interfere as little as possible with the experience of reading a site.

In both of the above cases, the ad you saw could be coming from a number of ad partners. The ads change depending on factors like your location and the type of site you are visiting.

If you are a WordPress.com user and you would like to permanently remove all ads from your site, please take a look at our paid plans.

If you saw an inappropriate ad, please report it to support@wordpress.com. Please include the address of the site (e.g., https://example.wordpress.com), the date/time the ad appeared, and a screenshot of the ad.

  34. I think Darren was actually pointing out what he sees as irony and hypocrisy, not trying to make light or a joke out of your post
Not everyone knows that you have no control over the content of the ads here

    • And I am pointing out a site that from day one stated “NO HACKS” stand by it. It is in our Addicts Guidelines and we speak on it daily. Why on earth would we advertise it? Again, focus should be on the post and what it was meant for. This is not a post about discussing ads on online sites and who does what with them, so why even bring it up?

  35. I’ve only ever used a hack on the Simpsons game, one not linked to my Google or Facebook or anything other than a dummy email and a new origin account, just for giggles for about a week before deleting it. My real simpsons game is hack free, as is my family guy game. It’s more fun playing for real.

  36. I never do any of the offers of free clams unless it comes from you ladies or from Tinyco. The problem I see is that people want to have everything in a “free” game but don’t want to pay real money for the Premium items so they decide to download these third party hacks just so they can have unlimited clams. They don’t understand the risks that happens when they do that because all they care about is being number 1 without really wanting to work to earn it.

    • That is how the original scam worked. The trusted and beloved blogger was manuvered and shut out and in his name, the crook said the the Company and the blog would give you this and that if you donated x$. No one knew that it wasnt the blogger doing this, they still trusted him despite his previous rage against hacks. They were pursuaded that it was legit.
If Bunny and Alissa says “TinyCo and Addicts will give you xxxx clams if you donate 5$, sure its a puchase out of the game but this once” DO NOT trust this! Any buy ouside the game is illegal, even if they claim TinyCo has agreed to it.
If anyone, especially the big trusted FG blogs makes offers that is not handled within the game itself (need to pay somewhere else or asking for ID and login) be very very alert and think “hack and scam”.
Anyone can sign Bunny’s or Alissa’s names to a post but that dont mean it is real. If it dont jibe with what they said before about offers like this, be suspicious. Ask around. Send an ingame Q to TinyCo to confirm. Trust no one but official support when it comes to things like this.
Anything you buy through the game itself that goes through Goggle, Apple and Amazon is fine and legit but everything else is illegal, no matter who claims/lies that it is fine and in agreement with TinyCo.

  37. Thanks for bringing this up but you can’t go on about being scammed when the adverts below your statement are basically scams about earning a lot of money per week or getting iPads for pennies.
    Thanks again though.

    • So I offer a helpful post to make sure players do not get their Personal Identity Stolen or money and you decide to make it a joke about something that has NOTHING to do with us? Like the adverts supplied by WordPress? I wonder if you do the same to every TV show you watch. Do you call and complain to those that make the TV show about the adverts that are shown between what you watch that are controlled by the station and not that TV show? This is not a joke, so please don’t try to make it one.

Nothing that Ad Blocking plugins won’t fix. And although I don’t know if these gals get paid, but why not, for all the hard work they do on this site and the other site. And who is going to fund it if they do get paid, the advertisers of course. Do you not load apps to your phone or tablet for free that have ads on them, same diff. Thanks for the heads up Bunny. Even though I have always played with a legit copy of the game, glad to know the news of the scams that are out there, in case anyone is tempted. I am sure TinyCo also appreciates it too.

  38. Should I stop playing the game? I’m confused! Has this game been hacked?

    • Did you buy your game online from someone? Or on Ebay? If not, that do not worry about it. This is in regards to people who think it is OK to “buy” a game from someone NOT TinyCO.

Same as buying a bootlegged copy of a movie.
