Christmas Results and a New Poll About New Year’s

Hello There Clammers!

Recently we asked you guys for your feedback on the Miracle on Spooner Street Event…and as usual you guys didn’t disappoint!  And your results are below the fold….

But before we get to those results we had another event hitting our devices over the last month…New Year’s!  Although it wasn’t a major event, we wanted to get your feedback and take on that event.  So now’s your chance to give your feedback on the event…

For those having issues you can go to the direct link for the poll here.

Note: I changed the poll due to issues with the other one.  However if you’ve already answered your votes will be counted and added to the final number.

Now let’s get into the results of the Christmas Poll…

  1. I hope next year we get the American Dad version of Christmas where Santa is out for revenge against the Smith family for Steve accidentally killing him and the family hiding the body.

  2. Always like reading the poll results – any idea how many users actually participated in it?

  3. Clearing the event “Boss battle” has seemed to get increasingly more frustrating as the events go by unless you play regularly at 4 hour intervals avoiding sleep, or pitch in some clams at some point. Premium content for an advantage with characters (John McClane) or buildings for ammo (S’mores ingredients) I realize is just the way they make revenue, but it seems like they’re on the verge of making it a requirement in order to fully participate. King Yeti was impossible to defeat and stay completely freemium. Granted there were multiple ways to finish him off: Buy a premium character, accelerate the attack tasks, or extend the time allotted past 24hrs.

As far as which which aspect was most/least fun:
The yeti was just tasks.. not really any engagement or gameplay to it. Add to that the headache of keeping your timing going to finish each stage before the time ran out, and I think that explains why I and so many others thought it was the worst.
I wonder how many chose an activity as their favorite, not because they found it actually fun, but because it was the just most fun of the activities we had. TinyCo needs to come up with something new, instead of re-skinning the same event over and over.

I hope we get a little breather before the next big event so I can finish expanding my Quahog.. There’s been very little time between events since Comic Con over the summer, and I need time for all these tasks! I’ve pretty much sat out of New Years (I unlocked Jillian, but passed on everything else) while I work on district 9.

  4. The results of your Poll questions about Jesus seems to be misleading to me.
The answer about Jesus “Yes, he’s turning water to clams as I type!” is NOT the same as “I got Jesus without using any clams”

It is surprising that only 13% said they used clams to get Jesus, but 50% bought John McClain (which used clams).
If you bought John McClain, then used John on tasks to help get Jesus, then, by extension, you did use clams to get Jesus. Same with Gene. I am guessing that most players who got Jesus had spent clams on a Premium character. And I am also guessing that most players who did not get Jesus, did not buy a premium character.
I think two more questions would be much more enlightening (answer on one of the two):
If you bought either or both Premium characters John McClain or Gene, did you get Jesus?
If you did NOT buy either of the Premium characters John McClain or Gene, did you get Jesus?

This is not griping, it is about poll accuracy. Having a poll with meaningful results is important.

    • OR…. you could say “thanks for taking the time to put together a poll for us”. 🙂

No matter what we do, how we do it, or what questions we post… there is ALWAYS someone nit picking at it. We ask things they way we do for a reason. 🙂

          • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Miss Bunny, dont get me wrong, I appreciate everything you guys do. That was not meant to nitpick, but rather to be constructive to find info out that I know I would be curious about. 6000 people is quite a nice slice of players to sample, I am curious if you know what % that is of your readers.
And so I say it…. Thank you for putting the poll together. You put great info together, advocate for us with the company, give us strategies, tips and tricks, gather info through polls or ‘suggestion boxes’, hold open discussions about what we might add or change, and just plain keep it fun! There was no malice meant in my post, and I humbly bow before you and beg for mercy, oh Mistresses of Quahog….

    • It’s an INTERNETS POLL dude. The fact it exists defines it as inaccurate. The sample size is “blog readers who bothered to click”, therefore it is not representative of the blog readership *or* the game playing community. It is representative of only those people who click clickie buttons.

Ladies, keep funning on. When it’s not fun, it’s time to stop.

      • Lol. It’s fine. Everyone has their opinion. Just can’t please them all. Suggestions are fine, but nitpicking…well… really not the place for it. 😉

  5. I’m surprised at the percent that were able to get Jesus, especially without clams. It’s rather low. I personally wish they had made it a bit easier to get Jesus. I don’t think I would have been able to get him without buying John McClane (who I only bought for that reason). And I still had to set alarms for every 4 hours. It was not fun having to wake up every 4 hours directly prior to and during the holiday season. 😛

In terms of my favorite part- I loved clicking the snowmen. I chose the option with them and the mall santas because they weren’t separated in the poll, but honestly I didn’t care about the santas one way or the other. The snowmen were adorable though. I was so glad I got that NPC from the New Year’s box. I honestly kind of liked bombing the shoppers myself, but that may be because that function worked great on my ipad mini. When I was on my Galaxy 4 it was terrible though, so I can understand the frustration. I still kind of wish they had made winnable NPCs for the shoppers too though…

  6. Alissa, in the next poll, could you add a “how often a day (on average) did you play per day during the event?”. I am wondering what percentage of people play frequently per day and if it may correlate to achieving the goal of get all or most of the freemium characters and items.

  7. I am surprised that Jesus was earned by 48%, although it also surprised me that John McClane was bought by 50%, whereas Gene and Paul only garnered 3%-4%. I think there is a direct correlation between the McClane purchase and Jesus unlock rates. I found that you truly needed McClane fighting the Yeti to get enough Snowflake Stockings to unlock Jesus. McClane was the first premium character I bought in an event, and only did it so I could unlock Jesus. I would bet if the McClane purchase rate was lower, say around 25%, the Jesus unlock rate would have been close to 25% as well. Sneaky way for TinyCo to generate revenue, but I drank the Kool-Aid like 50% did.

    • Though that would mean, technically, you used clams to get Jesus. Which means the people who said they unlocked him actually used clams if what you’re saying is true. I bought Gene and I also said I used clams to get Jesus because of that. Jesus wasn’t the only reason I bought Gene, but one of the main. Wouldn’t have been able to unlock Jesus other wise.

    • You may be right. Without McClane I had to use a several tricks to get Jesus… I didn’t upgrade the tree for a few days to keep the yeti’s max health lower during the streak. I set my alarm to wake up in the middle of the night to keep the attacks constantly going. I used a few clams to speed up the final attacks to beat the daily timers. Finally I always kept remaining characters attacking while the yeti was resting for a head start when he woke up. A pretty crazy few days there. Still couldn’t get the top-level yeti decoration though.

  8. Thanks for publishing this Alissa and for crunching the numbers. The analyst in me wants to delve deeper on things like this and break it down further. What made me think this was I was actually quite surprised that 50% went for John McClane, I thought it would be lower. Then I was thinking that if a certain type of person bought it – i.e. ones growing up when Die Hard was released, are these the ones more likely to playing the game? However, I know that this would require a huge amount of extra work and also, how many people would be willing to give a few demographics.

That said, a couple of comments on the poll

    1) Like an earlier poster, I can’t believe how many still liked bombing the shoppers – I “look forward” to the next event and their next iteration of the same task, sigh…

    2) The numbers for those able to get the characters is exactly what I would expect. For an event to be successful, I would think that 85-90% of players should be able to get the characters. Only my view, but I think it has made it a successful event.

    Thanks again Alissa.

  9. I found the Christmas game very fun, but I had just started playing the game and it was extremely difficult completing most of the objectives without characters to do so. Hopefully they will do it again next Christmas.

            • Dude you know as well as I do it’s only based on those who visit this site. And from those numbers that isn’t even an 1/10 of what we get in hits per day. But we can’t exactly sit here and force every person to answer a poll….

              • Ummmm, what the heck are you talking about? I was just curious to see what percentage answered the poll. If you don’t have that number then fine but why are you attacking me? That seems to fly directly against your site policies and is completely uncalled for when I’m just curious about a number.

                • And… looks like there is a comment missing. I do not believe it was directed at you.

As for a %, that is something impossible to give. We see people bounce off many IP’s. So to say something is “unique” would not be possible in today’s world. My thoughts anyway.

Why would you want to know that anyway? What purpose would it serve you? Lol.

  12. I enjoyed this event very much although it would have been nice to get more Christmas themed characters added to the game. At least for the Halloween event we got horror themed characters added.

    Like

    • I think you were able to try and get the two most Christmas themed characters imaginable, Jesus and Santa. Add to that Christmas and Hannukah outfits, reindeer, snowmen and elfs walking around your town. Can’t see that there was much else to offer without overloading us with stuff. There is also next year, they need to save a few unique things for the next Christmas Event, unless they intend to bring these characters back next year.

  13. For me the worst part of this event was the fact that, in order to defeat the yeti, we had do set the alarm for every 4 hours. I won a lot of clams, but I spend them all, even the ones I won before the event and I even bought for the first time some clams in order to get Jesus. I got all characters, but I had do spend a lot of clams mainly because of the yeti, but also to be able to unlock characters within a week, before a new one would be released.

    • It looks like only 27% agreed with you.

    • Bombing shoppers was like taking candy from a baby. While they aimlessly wandered around my maze, I blew them to oblivion and even got clams. The mall santas & reindeer were my least favorite because they would be in my way of clicking and to clear them i had to take my characters away from their quests or earning items.

      Like

      • I fully agree with kitty. This is about the only aspect of the game where you can put in a little strategy and be creative. If you set up a maze as described in many places on this site, you’re taking out max targets with a single bomb every time you open the game. I hope every event has this feature.

        Like

    • I like the bombings when you can tap-stop the targets. I only hated it during Halloween when the critters kept running.

I definitely agree with the poll on the big boss attack this time. Found other bosses more fun when you could strategically build up supplies before attempting those kill streaks.

      Like

    • I agree with you. I loathe the bombing.

    • I wish there a “none of the above” to the “Which Aspect of the Event was Your Favorite?” question. I honestly didn’t like any of the challenges.

Fighting the yeti was obviously the worst considering you HAD to spend clams in order to defeat the highest level. And you also had to wake up in the middle of the night to beat the timer. Not fun at all.

Having to strip my town of roads and clear an area for a shopper trap also sucks considering land is already extremely cramped. And I (used to…I’ve since given up) take pride in how my town looks. Having to dismantle it in order to trap the shoppers is a bummer.

Clearing the reindeer/santas/snowmen wouldn’t be so bad except it requires using characters that are desperately needed for other tasks. So in that regard, clearing them sucks too. It’s really too bad that with all the characters we have, tasks can’t be more spread out to make everyone useful.

So like I said originally, NONE of those tasks are my favorite.

As i was able to play fine (although bombs started crashing me after a week they were added) until the 25th in which I couldnt get past the loading screen. And i couldnt try the bluestacks option as it was incompatible until after xmas ended. I would have definitely gotten everything had i had the access.
