Phase 2 is upon us and we now have the option to travel to other planets via the Transporter aboard the Enterprise. WEEEEEE. But how on earth does this work?
Once you get your Starfleet XP to Level 2 and upgrade your Warpcore to Level 2, you will notice the Enterprise start to come more alive. More rooms will start to unlock, like the Transporter Room.
This is another cool feature aboard the Enterprise that will help you earn items to unlock Characters, increase your Dilithium and Starfleet XP count, and earn other items to put into your Quahog with the Star Trek theme.
First lets take a look at the Basics for each Planet.

HOW DO I SEND CREW’S ON A MISSION TO THE PLANETS?
Now for some more in depth information on how the Planet Missions and their payouts work.
Each Planet has a Chance at getting an Extra Item during the trip. To better your chance, you send a specific combination of Characters to the Planet. The game is actually very useful in telling you who is the better candidates as the word under the Extra Item will change. Unlikely, OK, and Likely. You will also see the Energy Bars next to the words go up and down depending on the Character. The highest one will be the most likely item you will get. Let’s give it a try.
I will use Oh’Nos as an example.
Most of the items start out at Unlikely. The Synthesizer showing slightly lower than the rest.
Now to select a Crew Member. Just tap on the Pic Icon of the Character you would like to send on the Mission. Once tapped, a check mark will appear over the Characters Pic and the Character will be placed into the Transporter. Side Note: If the Character is darkened out, that means they are on another task. They can only do one thing at a time so you will have to wait to use them until they are done. Locked ones usually mean they are not available yet. (Though Worf appeared locked instead of darkened when busy.)
At the same time, you will see how this Character impacted the scale on each of the items. You can see what items go from Unlikely to OK to Likely. Swap the Characters around until you find the combination that will gain you the prize you want most.
For this example, I want the Ferengi Billboard. So I will send Ferengi Mort… which moved the Billboard to OK. Then I added Geordi, which highered the OK on the Billboard but also the 45 Dilithium. The Ore is still Unlikely.
Then I added Riker, which turned the Billboard to Likely and the Dilithium Crystals, the the Energy Meter next to the Billboard is still higher so a better chance. It also switched the Ore to OK. (Adding Worf or Chris keep them at same difference, just a lil higher scale… so I won’t bother with them on the trip.) 
Now that I have my Crew, I will tap the “ENGAGE” to send them on their way. Once tapped, you will see them beam away to the Planet.
Then a quick pop up will appear with a recap of how long the mission will take, your Crew, your Chances, and the Payout. It will also show you the option of speeding the quest and clam cost to do so.
Tapping the italic i will just let you know the same, that your Crew is busy and to get them back faster you will have to pay clams. 
Now the Transporter will show a progression icon above it and will fill in until your Crew’s Mission is completed.
Once you see the Check Mark, tap on it and the team will beam back aboard and your prizes will be awarded. You will then be able to see what Extra Item you got with your standard payout. Tapping on Awesome will clear it out and add your awards to your game.
The Materials will go to your counts, the Decorations will Transport down to your Quahog and you will find them in your Inventory Storage, or use the shortlink of the Cargo Container next to the Shuttle in the Event Area.
In Wai Iota IV (pronounced Why I Oughta 😉 ) it seemed most Characters increased the Chance for the 50 Dilithium Crystals.
In Kronos of course Klingon Chris and Worf show better Chance to get the Bat’Leth Battle Arena.
FYI… For the chocolate. It seems combos of Geordi and the Klingons are yielding them more. Not always. But more often. Peter seems to push Dilithium.
WHAT ABOUT THE EXTRA ITEMS?
Let’s take a quick look at all the Extra Items and what they do.
Bat’Leth Battle Arena (Decoration): Sits on a 5×5 Base. Currently not animated though the way the flames are drawn gives it the appearance it is.
Ferengi Billboard: Sits on a 1×4 Base. Currently no animation. The sign itself is hilarious though.
The remaining items are a mix of Materials that can be used all over the Event. Whether its to unlock a Character or help to purchase other items like Rooms.
Basically there is no set guarantee just yet to get the items. It will vary each player. I assume the more Characters that come unlocked on board the Enterprise that can join the Missions, the more options we will see to get Extra Items. Side Note: For me, once a Character was unlocked, the item they needed disappeared. So once I had Klingon Chris, the Dictionaries were gone from the options of Extra Items to earn.

So I just upgraded my warp core to level 3. I am unable to see the next step in the questline because starfleet Peter is on an away mission. Is this new that we can’t see the next part of a quest until the character is freed up? Thanks!

Depends on where in the questline he is. If he is still finishing Phase 2 questlines, you will need to wait for 3 to trigger.

Getting REAAALLLLYYYYY frustrated with the chocolates! I only have freemiun characters to send and used all possible combos with at least 2 characters and still NO chocolate! Also, the reward for getting 6 TEs and waiting 8 hrs for the trip is 5/25! So not worth the time! It keeps saying .”likely” but for 3 trips now, did not get ANY extra rewards! Are they intentionally doing this so that we purchase clams? Its so no fair for us freemium players. Thought this would be a great event, but it’s brcoming THE WORST!!!!!

Seriously though… it varies for all players. Just tap on the Characters in your game when in the Transporter and see who gives YOU the better odds and send them. The results vary.

At this rate, I’ll never unlock Deanna. All I need is the chocolate which you get a “chance” by going to Wai Iota IV which takes 6 transporter energies. I’ve been farming transporter energies non-stop for the past 2 days using 2 Rec Rooms, Mort and Peter. All I have collected is 5. Frustrating is an understatement. 12 chocolates – really?

I bought ferengi mort but now he’s nowhere to be found and it still shows a mission to unlock him. It takes me to the place to unlock him and he’s not there! I wasted all those items to buy him and now I can’t even buy him again! Crap.

I’m saying on the ship I bought him and my game froze and when I restarted it, it still shows a mission to get him and I go to it and he’s not an option to even buy anymore. Where is he?

I’m almost embarrassed to admit this but its been super helpful for me and others might find it helpful too. I keep a notepad document with info about the event; who gives what (of the characters that I have), how many of an item I have/need, outcomes of transporter trips and who I used etc. This allows me to let it all go and not have to try and remember everything when I have enough real life stuff to remember already. It also reduces the down time of characters participating in the event. I do this for every event and I find it reduces stress.

What is this room swapping trick i keep reading about? I tried changing rooms (rec room) and paid the clams to speed it up but nothing. Wasted dilithium to by another room too, now most likely wont be able to finishe the timed event.

The room times have changed, so it won’t work as well anymore. Also… you CAN’T speed up the rooms to do it. You have to let them build naturally timed.

Freemium player but play a LOT and have managed to set Peter, Mort, AND not one but TWO of the purple hangar things which are meant to produce the blue crystals, all four of these going at EVERY opportunity and in the last FOUR days I have had a whole THREE of the blue crystals drop for me. Ridiculous. I’ve not got a single chocolate to get Deana (sp?) unlocked as not been able to teleport to that planet a single time and it certainly aint for the lack of trying! So frustrating when every 6 hours it’s just the same old joke of 4 empty taps once again. Like seriously? What’s up with that?

what’s the trick to get enough transporter energy to do anything? it’s unlikely that I’ll be able to make 12 trips to iota(that’s 72 energy!!!)’, so I’m already doubtful on Deanna.

I got Chris, but when I go to Wai Ioya IV it still has a pad lock next to him. I did currently send him for his battle cry quest before I checked though. Will the lock go away when he is done?

Anyone else have 2 Chris’s cos I got him as Klingon doing tasks and there is him also standing out front of the griffin house waving his arms but not interactive.

Big increase to chance of chocolate for freemium character expedition (Geordi, Peter and Chris) has happened overnight – from only two bars out of six to four-and-a-half bars.

Ok, obtaining the transporter energy is already a huge flaw but the last 4 away teams I’ve sent to Wai Iota have only yielded 45 dilithium. COME ON!!! Could there be anything more aggravating? That’s only worth like, a few groups of tribbles. I’m officially starting to hate this part of the event with a passion. Klingon Chris and Diana will take FOREVER and I’m starting to lose interest in this event altogether.

I feel you . If things keep on i am seriously considering uninstalling this game. They make it too difficult and i feel almost forced to spend money bc i cant just not have everything. This game started so fun and now it is very frustrating that things do not drop like they should. I dont think they should drop all the time or be easy but this whole week and i still dont have enough energy for maybe hopefully a chance for chocolate!? Smh.not to mention the fact ive been sending in support tickets for my clams disappearing and never hearing back. Oh but they respond to me if theres an issue about something else like game not loading but dont mention anything about my clams. Started out so strong but i think im almost done with this. Save me some money

I have Riker, but for some reason when I try to send him in the transporter to get the bibles, it says I need to unlock him to send him on a mission??? Am I missing something??
