Peter’s Booty Haul – Useful Characters – Phases 1, 2, 3 & 4

With our sea under siege I though I’d better evacuate my Tan Lines Resort again, to check if there was anyone working on their tan whilst they should be all at sea helping with this event.  Over 140 characters later, what did I find?

  1. Fancy Seamus doesn’t drop hourglass in my game.

  2. This event has totally jumped the shark for me (pun intended) as it’s just gotten too convoluted and too heavily dependent upon spending clams to be very fun. I am a ‘mid-premium’ player, I will spend 600 – 1200 clams (sometimes more) on an event – I have a good job, I make decent money, and budget for fun. BUT, I’m done with this one – the fishing drops and the bourbon drops are just ridiculous. I caught 19 fish over two days using the 10 bait I earned only to get one (count them – ONE!) ‘spare part’! (Yes, I did message TinyCo – no response after two days.)

i did the math quickly, so it’s probably not exact, but the point is the same: There are approximately 25 characters involved in this event , of which 14 are ‘base characters’ (characters earned playing the normal game, 6 premium characters and 5 ‘earned’ characters/outfits. Three of the ‘base’ characters (Peter, Lois and Shamus) are repeated or used as earned outfits. (Yes, Peter came from District 5, but that’s the only repeated outfit.)

Not to mention the competing characters/tasks…You want Salty earning bourbon or fighting pirates to earn items required to unlock buildings? Does Quagmire get bait or cannonballs? Lois has at least four tasks – good luck balancing that one.

The premium characters/outfits are probably a minimum of 1500 clams to purchase all – and that’s if you are lucky in the ‘mystery box’ to get Mermaid Bruce after two or three attempts…

I enjoyed the DC event and probably spent 1500 clams – but I felt like I was keeping up and even getting ahead. This event seems like a death march to me – just too much spending required for not enough fun.

I will TinyCo credit where due – I really like the fact they opened up the water and I hope they keep it open in the future…but I’m mired in Phase 3 and not interested in spending my way out of this hole…perhaps this should have been a ‘WTD’, so I apologize if this post is misplaced.

    • Yes probably a WTD but hey you kept it polite so no telling off from me. Lol. I’ve not spent a lot of clams and I’m having fun, but I make no secret of fact my insomnia helps me greatly. It’s more important folk get sleep than characters, so I wouldn’t recommend doing things my way. I promise you Bunny feeds back on the drops continually to TinyCo and we’ve seen improvements in other areas of the recent events. Hopefully that continues. But you know there will probably be something else as soon as this event finishes so making taking a break and coming back fresh for that is possibly a good call by you.

      • I havent used a single Clam, I set a 4 hour timer while at work, and I will easily get everything “freemium”. Easily. This has been by far, the best planned event TinyCo has ever had. This has been, by far, the most effective use of characters that we have had. The drops have been just okay, but they arent outrageously bad. It seems like there has been a fundamental shift at TinyCo in how they go about their events.

        • I agree Jack, the only variables are drops, they vary per player, also some were held back by an issue with The Giant Squid and obviously players who can’t access their games during work. But all in all I’m liking the shift in events. If only they’d sort the uncommon drop, life would be sweet. Good luck with final phase.

        • Unfortunately, I don’t have the luxury of time except on the weekends, which is one issue for me, but I also feel that I’ve really been on the wrong side of the drop algorithms throughout this event…early on, it was cannonballs that were scarce, now it’s been rusty anchors and the dreaded bourbon, and the absolute worst for me is everything associated with the fishing expedition…not too hard getting bait, but the drops of spare parts and rainbow fish continue to be maybe one in ten…ugh…I did get a message back from TinyCo saying ‘thanks for the feedback, have a great day…”

          Oh well, maybe next time…

  3. Chris has a task for cannonballs too, at least on my game he does. Hope this helps you with this very informative post. Happy gaming.
