I can see all your frustration in the comments on the event. I get it. Really. I am wanting to get an overall idea of where you all are as of right now. 
So let’s try something out. Please post ONLY answers the following, nothing more. (Anything else will be moderated.)

Mid to upper 20s in candy, and almost collected the other two items. When awake, I play every 2-2.5 hours. I have more issues with piñatas not being available than anything else. Or I get 1-2, and that’s it.

13 blindfolds – though they are not dropping as often as before. – So, as of today, some character are being sent to base story quest task.
Lately candy is not dropping as often. Better before. Check in every 2 to 3 hours. Sleep 6-8 hours at night so have something to do in AM.

This event has been a mess sadly. I really think TinyCo’s quality control needs a revamp. Events should be introduced with 99% of the kinks worked out. This doesnt seem to happen more often than not with TinyCo. Say what you want about EA and TSTO, but those events are generally flawless as soon as they are introduced. I really hope this Star Trek event goes off without a hitch as it has the potential to be really special.

Been playing non stop since the start of this event and hitting all the piñatas! So far, 50 pinatas smashed, 38 candy drops. 😦 Almost no way to get this outfit by Wednesday. Finished the hats and mustaches on Monday. I hope they give us more time or more pinatas.
