Never Give Up! Never Surrender!

Hey there Tribblemakers!

I decided to jump in here as tensions seem to be hitting an all time high in the game. So I am offering some helpful advise and try and refocus the concerns of what is going on in the game. So hang tight with me. 😉

Transporter EnergyTransporter EnergyTransporter EnergyTransporter Energy

Let’s just jump right into it. Transporter Energy. Most are struggling to gain it. Many are getting upset at it. I am here asking that you just take a step back from the game for a minute, take a breather, and let’s take a look at the Event itself.

Deanna Troi is one of many Characters available to unlock in the game. In usual Addicts fashion, many are desperate to get her NOW NOW NOW! I feel this may be causing a bit more stress than necessary on some of the most avid Addicts players. I am here to tell you it is OK. Don’t stress. She is supposed to take time to unlock.

I will put this into a little more perspective. This Event is a long one. Due to that, there are many factors throughout the game that WILL take time to get to. It is pretty much how most the Events go. We are only rounding in our 2nd week of the Event with a LOT more to come. There are still 30 days left in the Event. Again, 30 days. That is an ENTIRE month of time to do so many things. There are only 3 more areas on the Enterprise left and still 4+ weeks to get to them. That is a LOT of time.Star Trek Timer

Every Event I sit back and see the same thing… Excitement as the new stuff hits… a bit of confusion as you learn what needs to be done… Panic in the beginning with thoughts of giving up when there is still so much more to come… LOTS of comments at the end stating they gave you TOO much and now you don’t know what to do with it. Lol. It’s why I love and adore y’all. Grumpy and yelling or not.

Short story long, DON’T PANIC! Don’t give up! Hang in there. This is the way it ALWAYS goes. For reals. Slow going at first, more things added, picks up in the middle, big finish at the end. Every Event.

As usual they ARE watching, they DO listen, things will ALWAYS come to help as the game progresses. It is what we have come to known. It is the mechanics of the game. So please hang in there. We are listening and watching too and conveying our thoughts to them from our point of view as we are playing the game right along with you. You can always share yours as well via email or in game messaging. Every suggestion may not get a response, but they do see them.

As Commander Taggart would say, “Never Give Up! Never Surrender!” Oh wait, that’s the wrong parody. 😉

  1. While we will get there eventually, I am not to concerned. Counselor Troi is my least favorite character (the Meg on the Enterprise).

I am just going to chill out and wait for the real prize in this event – Guinan…

  2. It’s hard not to be frustrated. In a 24 hour span, i had 5 people working on transporter energy. That’s 20 attempts. I only got 1 during that time frame. Those odds are a bit low in my opinion but there’s nothing i can do about it but be frustrated.

The next Segment opens in just a few days time and they always require you to use previous characters in the event and complete quest lines to move on. Still having zero chocolates and not enough energy to even make one attempt yet at chocolates i will not be able to start phase 3 on time.

When everything is completely luck based and you have no luck it takes away a bit of the fun.

    Just my two cents. 🙂

  4. I agree with your summation of event reaction but disagree with the time frame as a basis to not be concerned with completing each stage. Each stage requires more to unlock, an exponential growth. So far it has taken longer than expected to unlock Troi (still locked for me) and gain transporter energy, required to get Troi. At this rate it could be nigh on impossible to get Data without buying clams.

The frustration of gamers is also appearing to be exponential as events go by. Ok, more downloads, more players, but surely the comments will balance if the game is more entertainment than stress.

As a trekkie I am enjoying this event. But as a fan of the game I am feeling cheated, and that I couldn’t compete this event freemium style even if I only played this game and had no other commitments. It should feel achievable, and only accelerated by purchasing premium content.

Us players come to it to relax, not feel excessively challenged. As the game gains popularity is it just going to become a corporate cash cow? I hope not. And I like that TinyCo listens to the feedback of their gamers. It’s a fun game, one that feels like there is a connection between the gamers and programmers. I hope we can keep that 🙂

    • But do we even know if she’s needed to move on? Nope. All you needed last time really was Starfleet XP Level 😉

      Like

      • Whether she’s needed to move on or not is pretty irrelevant.

She’s still there, under those chairs, waiting to be unlocked. I think most of us would like to unlock her and believe that, even if she isn’t needed to progress in the event, having her available will be beneficial in continuing, through the chances of her character tasks dropping items and the ability to send her on missions through the Transporter to gather items we might need to unlock future characters and skins.

  5. While it is nice that Tiny Co. really listens to their players and makes changes accordingly… that is also one of the biggest frustrations in playing their game.

It seems to me that as soon as you hit a “groove” in playing and finally figure out the game strategy that works for you — they change everything. I find that doing so isn’t helpful in the end, as you essentially have to re-learn how to play the event all of the sudden and potentially waste your time trying to figure out new strategies that may or may not work.

Although I never got to try it, room swapping was not a “cheat,” it was a game play strategy that worked to compensate for a poor drop-rate. I don’t understand how it was enough of a threat to the games income to merit a complete change in coding.

I’m just hoping that the devs have learned how to pace the rest of the event from this and from past events. As a multiple-times daily player, it should have been completely within the realm of possibility for me to get Jesus and Hot Meg. Yet, no dice.

May the Force be with us, everyone, long and prosper.

  6. So I don’t know if it’s just my game but has anyone else noticed that the rec room now takes 10 hours to rebuild?

I guess room swap is over now if that’s the case. 😦

    • Ugh. Foolishly didn’t scroll down in the comments far enough to see that this has been addressed. It sucks that they closed that one up since I’m sure that people who spent clams on guarenteed drop buildings (like myself) didn’t feel cheated by it. Quite the opposite actually. I bought the buildings to earn faster and room swap helped with that even more.

Still sad that they did that, especially when my rebuild time showed 2 hours and then turned into 10 once it was rebuilding.

  7. I still remember Comic-Con, Ron Perlman, the first of three weekly unlockable characters. I didn’t unlock him until after I had the other two due to not being lucky with the drops, then TinyCo changing the drops and Quagmire refusing to drop Jazz Records. Nobody else was having problems with him, it was just me but I got there before the end.

So the phrase give in one hand and take away in the other us just about right, look how we listen arn’t we wonderful, we have improved the drop rate for chocolate, goid news and I do mean that but take away with the other, they found about the swapping rooms, was just about to get the last transporter energy then increased the rec room chsnged from 2 hours to 10 hours so now harder and much longer time to collect the transporter energy, just to tempt you to use clams, so only a little help, so thanks for that, and that I don’t mean. I have got Worf and the Cybernetics room so spent enough for now thank you.

  10. While I know a lot of people do jump the gun with early-event griping, but even if Deanna is meant to take a while to unlock, I’m sure people are just concerned that if they don’t unlock her by the next wave, they’ll have to add another character’s unlock tasks to their list, and if those tasks involve using the transporter to get certain items it means getting behind unlocking the newer character (or even more behind in unlocking Deanna) especially if the items don’t drop at a good rate.
Personally I’m not concerned anymore. I’ve finally decided that since I can’t truly strategize and “play” this game – since your progression is ultimately out of your hands and at the mercy of random item drops – I’m not even bothering to put in extra effort anymore to get all the items needed to complete special events before they’re over.

  11. Hi Trekkies!

Thanks again for this awesome and helpful guide. It was really fun reading all the posts. Thanks to the increase droprate of chocolates Deanna had been unlocked.

Btw, Is it necessary to complete all of the questline especially frame of mind quest to proceed to the next phase? I would like to hold down in collecting ferengi billboard.

My guess is that Locutus would be a seperate character from Patrick Stewart.
It would be sad if theres no costume for Sulu.

Lots of instructions are posted in other comments, so I’m not going to repost here in full, but the basic knowledge you need is:
        1. All buildings in FGTQFS drop their item once when first built
        2. For some reason rooms in the Enterprise go through a build (free) when you move them (change room)

  13. Soooooo. TinyCo claims the drop rates are fine the way they are…
Thats funny because a lot of people won’t have Troi unlocked by Thursday and they will then feel behind. She is the character of this area and there is going to be more characters and items to unlock. That will make people feel like they are getting further and further behind. If they visit this site they may be OK but I know there has got to be a lot of people that don’t and there’s a good chance that they’ll quit if they haven’t already quit.
I know personally I’ve quit playing this event and probably the game all together because It’s Not Fun!
It’s tedious and aggravating and I’ve got other games to play and spend money on instead of this.
Beach House you shall be mine…

And Worf is Not Worth the purchase unless you really like the character.
He is Worthless for this event! Well for the most part, not as useful as previous premium characters.

  14. I get that they want these things to take a while, but sometimes I wonder if the people making these decisions actually play the game.

Want to make it take a while to get a character? Makes us get 100 chocolates, but give more ways to get it. I think just seeing some progress would make people happy. Sending 4 characters off for 8 hours and getting nothing is disheartening. Send them off and get 5% of what you need: progress!

  15. It’s frustrating more than anything. You need 6 to have a chance to get 4 chocolates, meaning you need at least 18 to unlock Troi. Also, this week replicator items need 9 more. With 3 rooms and 3 characters tied up, I’m lucky if I get 3 a day, meaning I’ll need 9 days to complete this week’s tasks. Only TinyCo knows how many more I’ll need next week, might be none, could be a lot more. With Thursday releases, I’m fairly used to having things mostly unlocked by Sunday night, but here it is 2 days until the next wave and I’m still struggling to get through this week. Either more characters need to have a chance of transporter energy drops, the chance rate needs to be bumped a touch, or the transporter costs need to be reduced (as well as maybe another way to earn chocolate, why is Bonnie the only base character that has a Star Trek mission?)

  16. While I appreciate the optimism and agree about the mass panic and bitchfest in every event so far, I have to point out the last two events really do feel like miscalculations by the design team. Each area has 1 new character and 1 new skin to unlock. It always gets harder and more challenging with each week (as it should). If we fail to unlock the new character this week, using almost all active characters, I cannot see how we would possibly have time to unlock Picard and new Lois skin plus “catch up” on deanna when we need 2-4 of the active characters on 8 hr missions using 6 energies, each of which take at least 12 hrs and more like 18-24hrs (because they’re never a sure drop each 6 hrs even on premium characters/buildings).

There’s optimism and there’s being realistic.

    Like

    • And there is still 4 weeks. I get the panic, I really do. And I would understand it more if we were in the last week. But as you said, they KNOW what didn’t work in the last events and they do make changes and are always progressing every event. I am just asking to not be judge, jury, and executioneer when it’s not even halfway in. Give it time before throwing it out the door. 😉

      Like

      • Unless you know something we do not I think that is far too optimistic.

We have two more sections, so that’s two weeks. Then something must happen for Locotus to change back to Pucard, so another week. Then a final battle with whatever type of boss they make for the event the last week.

If players do not have Klingon Chris and Deanna unlocked by Thursday they will be behind.

Soon I had 4 hours left on that timed quest. I’d fortunately just received my 6th transporter energy & having just unlocked Klingon Chris, was looking forward to my first Wai Iota IV mission. I looked at the likelihood stats of getting chocolate and this made me decide not to send Peter, who had just had a quest come up to drop a captain’s log. Happily sent off Geordie, Worf & Chris, then kicked myself seconds after as I realised the energy I’d been scrambling to get all day had been for sending Peter so I could complete the timed quest. And now of course, the second I started to try the room swap, it’s now 10 hours. Trollololol…. XD

    Like

  20. Sorry but I disagree. I tried leaving the rec room there and collecting. Unless they changed the drop rate now, I only received 3 energy in three days. Was I supposed to wait 6 days to send a crew to collect the chocolate? If it was a gurantee droo then sure no problem, I’ll wait 18 days to collect the energy needed (6 energy, 3 trips, 4 chocolate each trip) but the drop isn’t a gurantee. So I might never get it. And yes the other comments on here are correct, since when does this game cater to those who take a really long time to unlock a character. I’ve been playing for a year and without unlocking a character you can’t proceed with the game and you can’t access other characters. Please TinyCo balance with better drop rates if you have not done so already with this new change. Thank you.

  21. So, now that they increased the build time on the rec room, is it better to leave them and collect rent, or should we still do the room swap?!?

    Like

  22. I deleted my first knee-jerk response because, you are correct: In the past Tinyco has been good about fixing problems during events. I hope they follow through and complete their fix of this particular situation (beyond their attempts so far).

However, this afternoon they get negative credit for taking away the workaround that allowed people to run multiple transporter missions – i.e. Rebuilding the Rec Room now takes 10 hrs instead of 2.

At this point, I need 2 more successful mission drops. Once I get those, I honestly hope I never have to use the transporter again.

It was theoretically a good, fun, event-appropriate game mechanic. Unfortunately, their implementation generates frustration rather than fun.

  23. I would agree with this post 100% if Deanna DIDN’T have to be unlocked for the event to progress on Schedule. I have a feeling she will be and therefore many players progress will be stymied.
There needs to be a balance between fun – challenge – impossible. This section of the event seems to be weighted to the latter part. Tinyco needs to tweek something to bring some balance to the gameplay.
Other than that I am enjoying the change of event type and am loving the coverage you girls (women) are supplying us with. Thank you.

    • As far as I can tell, you don’t have to unlock Troi to advance to the third week, you just need LaForge and Starfleet Peter. Which means you probably won’t need Troi until week 4. Or, in other words, you have two weeks to unlock her before it keeps you from progressing in the event. Which should be plenty of time with the increased drop rate on the candy bars.

I understand how frustrated everyone else is getting, but I have never seen an event that was impossibly difficult. I also have never seen a company fix things so quickly. Big companies like bio ware which made dragon age inquisition STILL have not fixed bugs in the game. Never thought I would get Troi right away, but fear the characters needed to get her will be necessary for other quests, tasks and new characters in SFL3 on & after Thursday. When more things are added it’s hard to stop and return to an old task especially after a strategy is adopted to achieve the current tasks/quests at hand. I chipped away at the Pawtucket Brewery stuff for well over 2 months with an event or two during it. I never worried because the was no time limit to finish. The time limits on events is what raises anxiety levels. When setting a long grinding task aside during events I always fear I’ll forget it & miss out. Just my experience, but have had more frustration & anxiety with FGQFS than with TSTO.

  37. I appreciate your reassurance, Bunny. Thanks to you and all the Addicts.

But playing the devil’s advocate for a moment, if we look at how previous events have played out, if there are Characters/Skins to unlock in the current phase, these characters will most likely be prerequisites to advancing in the next Phase.

So, while the event is slated to last 3+ weeks longer, players who have failed to unlock Troi in the next…48 hours will probably find themselves unable to progress when Phase 3 launches. At the very least, if they are still working on Troi, they will likely start falling farther and farther behind in achieving the goals of Phase 3.

Maybe I’m wrong, and TinyCo doesn’t plan to utilize Troi, Peter or Mort at all in Phase 3. But based on what we’ve seen, that’s unlikely to be the case.

    Like

    • And on the flip side… I also see them making subtle changes and adapting to things that did not flow so well… like having to get a character unlocked to advance. 😉

  38. I believe we have three areas to still unlock The Bridge, sick bay, and holodeck. Either way I see where you are coming from it just seems odd to have easily completed three out of the four requirements to unlock Troi in a day and a half but Ive needed triple that time if not more to finish the last requirement. Usually for characters they want us to take time to unlock there is a closer association between the different items needed if you get what I’m saying. To me that indicates a screw up in implementation rather than being purposefully long to unlock.

  41. I think that the concern over transporter energy stems from the fact that the drop rate is terrible and there are too few ways to get it. Compound that with the fact that the 2nd planet requires 6 units and the frustration is understandable. It needs tweaking. Frankly, I’m amazed that TinyCo hasn’t given even one such energy earning task to George Takei. Many people probably already have him.

  43. Well, it looks like the room switch has been “fixed” since the Rec Room now has a 10 hour build time (up from 2). Those blue transporter cubes just got harder to get…

  44. They seem to have changed the build time on the rec room from 2 hours to 10 hrs. Msg sent to tinyco. Not happy about this. Won’t give up but still sucks.

  46. I am loving the event, I have absolutely zero complaints. Switching rooms took a little practice to maximize each switch, but at least I don’t have to set my alarm every four hours so I can fight a Yeti.

  48. I actually read a comment of someone saying they spent so long trying to get Klingon Chris and then finally gave up and used clams to get him which is just beyond ridiculous. Plus, transporter energy isn’t even that hard to get, it takes a short while with the length of the characters actions and such, but actually drops a lot.
